What is Mastodon?

Mastodon is a decentralized microblogging platform with a frontend experience simular to that of Twitter. On the backend though, the larger Mastodon landscape is built on thousands of independant instances—each with its own servers, rules, moderation, etc.

To join Mastodon, a user must select an instance (like this one!) on which to create their account. Mastodon users can follow and interact with people across the larger network of instances, but each user can only be housed on a single "home" server. That said, should a user ever decide that they would rather be housed on a different Mastodon instance, members can switch to another Mastodon server at anytime.

Why ParkFans.Network?

We wanted to create a home for fans of the amusement and themed attractions industry here on Mastodon. Though our over decade-long experience operating and moderating ParkFans.net, we have developed structures and teams that we believe make us uniquely well suited to this challenge.

ParkFans.Network is dedicated to consistent, fair, and clear moderation. Our rules (see below) aim to be comprehensive enough to maintain a heathy, hate-free platform while also being clear enough to avoid any ambiguity. We run the latest, stable version of Mastodon and comply fully with the Mastodon Server Covenant.

1. All content posted to ParkFans.Network must comply with United States, New York, and Virginia law.
2. Uploading sexually explicit and/or violent media is prohibited.
3. Posting any form of private information regarding an individual without their consent (doxing) is prohibited.
4. Expressions of intolerance targeting one’s cultural, gender, physical, racial, religious, or sexual identities/characteristics are prohibited.
5. Posts containing or citing potentially objectionable content should be flagged appropriately.
6. Utilizing additional accounts to violate any rule or evade a ban will result in the termination of all duplicate/shared accounts.
7. ParkFans.Network falls under the purview of the elected ParkFans Advisory Panel. Policy modification proposals and censure/ban procedures utilize the existing Advisory Panel deliberation protocols.
