This Mastodon instance was created by a group of activists who seek to create a decentralized social media platform and provide access to the Fediverse for the radical left in and around Denmark that is independent of the mainstream centralized and intensively surveilled platforms.
A digital space where we can share knowledge and ideas, spread propaganda, connect with each other, and reach new people on our own terms while being in control of our own data.
We are progressive, extra-parliamentary leftists fighting for a different and better world based on principles of freedom, equality and autonomy and without discrimination and oppression in all its forms.

We expect everyone joining radikal.social to be aligned with the general goal of the instance as described above. At the same time, we realize that "the radical left" isn't a unanimous group and that disagreements and opposites exist within our movements.
Therefore we have specified how we moderate the instance here.
How we moderate
Every report is reviewed individually. We always initiate a dialogue with the reported account explaining why we think their behaviour is wrong and which actions we plan to take.
We differentiate between ignorance and malicious intent and want to give people the chance to learn and better themselves. If you have been reported we expect you to participate in the dialogue we initiate with you.
What we moderate
This is not a complete list of what we don't want on the server as such a list could never exist. Instead, we rely on trusting the reports we receive and listening to the people being harmed.

We prioritize marginalized people’s safety over privileged people’s comfort. This means that we will not act on reports regarding:
Reporting
We rely on user reports to be able to moderate the instance. Reports should contain links, explanations, or other information that is relevant to the report.
A report does not guarantee the moderation response that you've requested. If reporting users are not satisfied with our decisions, we suggest using the Mute or Block functions.
We will do our best to follow up within a reasonable time frame.

Blocking & muting
We encourage users to make use of the block and mute options to help control what content appears on their timelines. While moderators will do our best to block bad offenders and defederate from toxic instances, we recognize that people have different limits and expectations of the fediverse, and these options allow for a more personalized experience.

Please use Mastodon's built-in Content Warning (CW) tool to label posts that other users may find upsetting. The following must always be labelled with a content warning:
Accounts that regularly post these types of posts without Content Warnings may have their accounts silenced, or suspended, based on the severity of the behaviour, and may be asked by the moderators to migrate to another instance.
All users are encouraged to be considerate of others’ needs and preferences. Please listen and respect if someone asks you to label a post with a content warning.

Who runs and moderates radikal.social?
As mentioned in the intro we are a group of activists who created the server. We are organized in a semi-open group and intend to keep a constant flow of people in and out of the moderation team to ensure a distribution of power and to keep the group representative of different positionalities.
If you are interested in becoming a part of the group feel free to reach out to us. As the moderation team, we are dedicated to keep improving our policy and moderation. We are accountable for the moderation we perform. Any feedback or criticism is very welcome!

- Don't use fat as an insult or skinny as a compliment

- No threats of violence or incitement of violence towards any individual (including encouraging a person to commit suicide or to engage in self-harm)

What we don't moderate

- Refusal to explain or debate social justice concepts
- Communication in a ‘tone’ you don’t find congenial

- Hate speech and discrimination, such as, but not limited to, racism, xenophobia, homophobia, transphobia and abelism and content illegal in Europe is not allowed in any form.
- Content warnings (CWs) are often either required or highly encouraged to keep our server safe and friendly for as many people as possible. CW-ing nudity, lewdness, politics, gore and spam-like posts are all mandatory. Failure to comply will result in account limiting.
- Bios (account biographies) should be kept "safe for work". Highly distracting, lewd or otherwise obscene avatar or header images are not allowed.
- Malicious or misleading information (such as, but not limited to, anti-science, fake news and hate brigading) are bannable offences. This also includes the encouragement and normalising of said information. Such content can, for example, include anti-vaccine and alternative medicine.
- Extreme political content, such as Nazism, authoritarianism, "tankieism", and extreme nationalism is a bannable offence. An exception to this are news stories and meta around these topics.
- Incitement of violence, regardless of the situation, is generally not allowed and appropriate content warnings is required as a minimum! We also realise that there is a difference between punching up vs. down, and that violence is sometimes unavoidable, such as protests.
- Advertising is discouraged and is allowed at the discretion of moderators. Commissions related to the arts, charitable causes (that are demonstrably not for-profit) and personal donation requests are exempt. A general rule is that if you think that it would be annoying, put it behind a CW.
- We do not allow any bots or automated services including crossposters from other social media sites. You can have a look at sites like "botsin.space" for that kind of stuff.
- Doxing and non-consensual breaches of privacy is not allowed and breaking this rule will most likely result in a ban.
- Posting uncaptioned media with public visibility is not allowed and will get your account limited, usually if repeated behaviour is observed. Twootsite is supposed to be an inclusive and accessible place. Only local posts are affected by this rule, not remote posts or boosts.

This Mastodon instance was created in December 2022 for /r/neoliberal as part of the broader neoliber.al domain. While primarily a spinoff of the subreddit, we welcome new accounts from anyone who is looking for a community based on liberal values. Take a look at our local feed to see what we have to offer

In short, mastodo.neoliber.al is an independently-operated social media website running the Mastodon software which enables communication with other websites using the ActivityPub protocol. If you create an account here, you can follow and chat with people on other Mastodon instances and even on other social media platforms such as Lemmy, Threads, and Bluesky (with some limitations). This network is known as the "Fediverse"
Choosing an Instance
Deciding where to create your account will have a big impact on your experience. The administrators of an instance are responsible for:
Some instances offer lenient wild-west moderation, while others a more curated walled-garden. Some instances look and behave just like most social media platforms, while others are so customized as to be unrecognizable. mastodon.social is the most popular instance, and provides a typical vanilla social media experience, so why make an account here?
First, we offer a unique moderation philosophy. Our local feed is held to a high standard, with discussions expected to be both civil and constructive. Posts on other instances are held to a generally lower standard, but are still subject to a zero-tolerance policy for hate speech and violence. The goal is to provide both a cozy close-knit community, and typical social media experience minus the bigots
Second, as a small community we offer a more personalized experience than what you can get on other instances. This includes direct support from the admins, a voice in how moderation is handled, and thanks in part to the software Chuckya and glitch-soc we have some extra features including:

This instance is actively moderated and reports are usually responded to within 12 hours. We do not allow racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, or other forms of bigotry. Please see our rules below for more details
As a user, Mastodon has powerful tools for deciding what content you want to see, including word filters, blocking accounts, and blocking entire instances. As such, our current policy is to only perform site-wide blocks of other instances for spam, harassment, hate speech, and illegal or otherwise highly-objectionable content. This Mastodon instance was created in December 2022 for /r/neoliberal as part of the broader neoliber.al domain. While primarily a spinoff of the subreddit, we welcome new accounts from anyone who is looking for a community based on liberal values. Take a look at our local feed to see what we have to offer

In short, mastodo.neoliber.al is an independently-operated social media website running the Mastodon software which enables communication with other websites using the ActivityPub protocol. If you create an account here, you can follow and chat with people on other Mastodon instances and even on other social media platforms such as Lemmy, Threads, and Bluesky (with some limitations). This network is known as the "Fediverse"
Choosing an Instance
Deciding where to create your account will have a big impact on your experience. The administrators of an instance are responsible for:
- Maintaining a block list of instances that host objectionable content
- Creating the content policy enforced by your instance's moderators
- Ensuring that the instance stays running, and your data is secure
- Tailoring the instance experience to the needs of the community
Some instances offer lenient wild-west moderation, while others a more curated walled-garden. Some instances look and behave just like most social media platforms, while others are so customized as to be unrecognizable. mastodon.social is the most popular instance, and provides a typical vanilla social media experience, so why make an account here?
First, we offer a unique moderation philosophy. Our local feed is held to a high standard, with discussions expected to be both civil and constructive. Posts on other instances are held to a generally lower standard, but are still subject to a zero-tolerance policy for hate speech and violence. The goal is to provide both a cozy close-knit community, and typical social media experience minus the bigots
Second, as a small community we offer a more personalized experience than what you can get on other instances. This includes direct support from the admins, a voice in how moderation is handled, and thanks in part to the software Chuckya and glitch-soc we have some extra features including:

- Emoji reactions
- Tenor GIF selector
- Optional Mastodon Modern Theme (source, creator website)
- Post translation services provided by DeepL

Some Mastodon apps will not support all these features, but the website always works
Moderation
This instance is actively moderated and reports are usually responded to within 12 hours. We do not allow racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, or other forms of bigotry. Please see our rules below for more details
As a user, Mastodon has powerful tools for deciding what content you want to see, including word filters, blocking accounts, and blocking entire instances. As such, our current policy is to only perform site-wide blocks of other instances for spam, harassment, hate speech, and illegal or otherwise highly-objectionable content. Please reach out if you think a server has been wrongfully blocked
