Cutie City is a tiny, cozy, brand new Yastodon instance created by @nuz for anyone who'd like to make their status as a cutie even more official.
We're a small, safe community of mostly queer and neurodivergent folks who have zero tolerance for racism, transphobia, homophobia, misogyny, antisemitism, fascism, nazism, or any other shitty ideologies touted by people who think "free speech" is more important than empathy.
This place was originally only intended to host a handful of cuties whose former instance is shutting down, but then some more fedi ridiculousness happened, so... if you're looking for an instance that won't cut you off from your friends or wipe your data willy-nilly, then you have a home here. 💖

Server Software
This instance is currently running glitch-soc, a friendly fork of Yastodon that adds quite a few cool features at the cost of potentially being less stable. It's a fun tradeoff!
One of the many perks of Glitch is that it lets us easily change variables such as the per-post character limit, so I've gone ahead and cranked all of those numbers up. (Click to expand this section to see what they are.)
Adjusting these limits is no problem at all, so if you're a Cutie Citizen and want one (or more) of them increased, don't hesitate to ask!
In the near future, I plan to add a few personal code changes on top of Glitch. Nothing too fancy, just some things to make the server even cuter, at the cost of potentially being even less stable. Just kidding... unless... 😅

This instance is powered by a few third-party services, all of which were selected with technical, economical, and environmental sustainability in mind. (Click to expand this section for more details and a cost breakdown.)
The total cost of running this server is currently 28.40 USD per month, and it's only going to go up from here. More significantly, though, that number doesn't account for the time and effort that goes into behind-the-scenes technical administration and content moderation. It's a lot of work, but I think the results are going to be worth it - we're in this for the long haul. 🥰

To create an account on this instance, you must:

What can I post?
You're welcome to post about anything you want when the visibility is “Unlisted” or “For followers”. The Local timeline is “Public” and moderated. This is a community for wargamers about wargaming and the Local timeline should reflect topics related to the hobby. We’ll interpret “related to the hobby” liberally to encourage discussion, but draw the line at posts dealing with contemporary sexuality, gender, politics, race, or religion that denigrate others, or are intended to polarize the community. If you’re not sure how a potential post will be received, be conservative and post it as “Unlisted” or “For followers”, or use content warnings. Is it free?
It's free. One of appeals of Mastodon is that it's free of the data harvesting and monetization practices so common on the web today. If the operational costs become unmanageable, I'll bring it to the community and we can solve it together.

Welcome to teal.social, the (un)official Mastodon server for the Waypoint community! When signing up for an account, please include your Discord or Forum username so we can verify your membership status.
The Waypoint community an inclusive, fun, and safe place to talk about games and other things. Waypoint is focused on "why we play" and that’s the common interest that brought us all here.
Rules
Rule 1: Bigotry, including but not limited to discrimination or hate speech based on race, gender, sexuality, religion, disability, or any other attacks on one’s personhood, will not be tolerated.
Rule 2: Threatening behaviour or harassment of any kind will not be tolerated. Our community and its platforms are not to be used to launch attacks on anyone. Do not post screenshots of DMs or posts marked as private without the consent of all involved. This applies even if identifying information is removed.
Rule 3: This is a space for people with myriad backgrounds. When replying, consider whether your perspective is needed or whether you’d gain more by listening. Conversely, if you feel someone is out of their lane, please raise the issue with a moderator. Don't assume everyone is like you, especially if you grew up or live in the global West, are White, Cis, Able-Bodied, Neurotypical, Financially Secure, or any combination therein. If you don’t know about a topic, research it.
Rule 4: Use content warnings when posting depictions of sex and sexuality, substance abuse, violence, disease, body horror, and death. The moderator team is made up of community volunteers who are not employed by and have no formal affiliation with VICE or its properties and should not be contacted with feedback or criticism for any content posted on vice.com or by its employees. The moderator team does not have input or control over content posted on vice.com, nor do they discuss editorial choices with the staff. They are not representatives of VICE, Waypoint Radio, or Motherboard.
We cannot see everything that goes on and have our own knowledge gaps. We are here to facilitate this server being as close to the goals laid out as possible, and we are always open to suggestions about how to do that, or to criticism about how we may have messed up. Please send a DM to the moderators to get in touch with us for any reason.
The mods take our rules seriously as they are what contribute to people feeling safe. All moderator decisions are made as a team; multiple people from different backgrounds offer their perspectives on each issue. Penalties include formal warnings and account suspensions, with scaling severity depending on the circumstances. If you continue to disregard the rules, goals, or otherwise fail to adapt, you will be banned. Disciplinary action for unprecedented events or situations not covered by our rules will vary.

BlackQueerLife is meant to be a welcoming community for all Black queer, trans, and gender nonconforming people. Another way of saying this is that this space exists to house the following people: (note-these categories are not mutually exclusive and this list is not necessarily exhaustive either) Black MaGes/Black people of marginalized genders, Black folks who are marginalized due to their sexuality, Black intersex folks, Black aro/ace people, Black gender-nonconforming folks, Black people who question their sexuality and/or gender.
Cishet Black folks are also welcome here, keeping in mind that the Black queer community is centered.
How To Sign Up
When you click the create an account button, after verifying your email address, in the box that asks why you want to join, please let us know a little bit about yourself. While you do not have to share any information you don't want to, keep in mind what is written above in the Who It's For section. We will only be approving requests to join that align with that. Please allow for some time to allow us to process your application. If your application is not accepted and you don't know why, contact me using the email above. I will explain why and work with you if there was a mistake.
Guiding Principles and Moderation Practices
This is an explicitly anti-imperialist, anti-fascist, and anti-capitalist instance that subscribes to the following political philosophies: Black liberation, gender expansiveness, disability justice, fat liberation, class warfare, prison abolition, and more.
Therefore any actions taken by users that align with white supremacy, antiblackness, colorism, ableism, transmisia, misogyny, fat hate, gender binarism, or cissexism/heterosexism will be addressed. Warnings, post deletion, silencing, and suspension are all on the table when it comes to moderation.
We also proactively use blocklists. Our blocklist was originally based on the Tier 2 Blocklist, as per Oliphant's page here, although we are currently using the 40% Heat Rating list on The Bad Space as our main source going forward. We also regularly monitor the Fediblock hashtag and are in frequent communication with other server admins to keep our blocklist current and our users safe.
Additionally, we abide by the Mastodon Server Covenant. This means that we commit to the following:
-Active moderation against racism, sexism, homophobia and transphobia
-Daily backups
-At least one other person with emergency access to the server infrastructure
-Commitment to give users at least 3 months of advance warning in case of shutting down

These are instances whose mod/admin teams we work very closely with, given our shared vision and goals for building a safer fediverse for marginalized groups and oppressed peoples. Think of us as different houses in the same neighborhood.

Why This Server?
Mastodon in particular and the fediverse at large can be an extremely hostile place for people like us. The safety of our community is something we take extremely seriously. As such, this server will be a place of heavy moderation. It should be noted, however, that we will federate. There are other spaces that do not federate that we can recommend for you. Those spaces are going to be more safe and more private by default.
My intention for BlackQueerLife is that when Black queers are searching for a place in the fediverse to call home, we are accessible to them. The goal is to strike that challenging balance between safety for current users and being accessible to new users. This is far from an easy task, and should events force the server to temporarily close to new signups you will be notified. If we grow to the point where taking on more members is no longer feasible permanently, you will also be notified of this change.
I do not believe that our community should be forced to choose between making a home on an instance that centers whiteness and making a home on an instance that is closed off from the rest of fedi. I believe that our community should have options that federate and those that don't.
Best Practices For Accessibility
Some of our users are disabled (For example, 1 in 4 Black American adults), and to make sure that everyone is provided with the tools they need to participate fully in our community, here are some collective habits that we should adopt:

This server is running Glitch-soc, a fork of Mastodon, using the managed hosting provider, Fedi Monster. You can see more information by going to their page, but daily backups and regular updates are included.

The instance is currently run by one admin and three moderators. Our team regularly collaborates on making decisions for the server. Our moderators are also compensated for their labor. For the time being, we are not looking to expand our mod team.

- Avoid using too many emojis in a row. Example: putting 3 smiley faces in a row, or 60 red flags. Screen readers do not handle them well
- Use PascalCase for the hashtags. Example: #BlackQueerLife
- When sharing a link, provide a brief description of where the link directs to
- Use captions in uploaded videos

atx.pub is a server for Austinites, people who used to be Austinites, people who want to be Austinites, or want to visit Austin. Honestly, all are welcome, we just wanted a place with a higher-than-normal density of Austin-related posts and people.

- Don't be a dick. If you screw up and get called out on it, apologize and move on, and try to learn from it. This one is vague, but as the Supreme Court said, "I know it when I see it." Similarly, try not to take deep offense easily. Reasonable people can disagree without violating this rule.

- Please make use of content warnings (CW's) where appropriate. Things that should definitely get CWs (but not limited to): violence, trauma, imagery associated with those. Things you can CW (but shouldn't feel pressured to): politics, media, sports?
- Absolutely no: bigotry; racism; misogyny; xenophobia; discrimination on the basis of race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, gender, sexual preferences, body type. (See Rule 1)
- No advocacy of violence or inciting violence, including harassment. This one will get you banned quickly.
- No commercial bots, follow bots, or any bots that annoy the admins of this instance. If you want to point a bot at us, please make it useful or something that elevates discourse.
- No stalking or harassment.
