Magpie is an online community for friends and family.

Magpie was created to be an online social network for a small community of friends and family, most of whom have personal relationships offline. Our members are free to invite people they would like to join us.

The suggested etiquette below applies not only to Magpie, but to the Fediverse in general.

Use content warnings

Mastodon allows you to hide content behind a content warning (CW), which others have to click through to see. You decide what the CW says. Suggested uses include:

• Nudity
• Politics

Use image descriptions

When you post an image, please add a text description. Image descriptions are important for accessibility as they work with screen readers.

1. No "hate speech", speech that nefariously expresses a form of prejudice or threatens a people of a protected characteristic (such as age, disability, ethnicity, gender, pregnancy, religion, sex or sexuality - unpopular opinions voiced respectfully is fine).
2. No Calls to violence. Any individual promoting violence towards any person or group.
3. No intentionally circumventing blocks, for example, by creating new accounts, even on a separate instance, with the intent of circumventing a ban/block.
4. No harassment. If a user explicitly asks you to disengage and you do not, explicit calls to dogpile will not be acceptable.
5. All bots must respect the #nobot tag and must post unlisted.
6. Posts intended for commercial advertisement purposes must be posted with the #ad tag or unlisted.
7. Nudity involving the genitals, sexual acts, or pornography must be posted either unlisted, with a content warning, or both.
