Longevity of the server

We commit to maintaining this server for the foreseeable future. The server itself is hosted on a computer through Hertzner which is backed up daily to prevent data loss. We can cover the current server costs (about $50 / month), but if the server needs to scale further we will ask for donations. We currently anticipate maintaining this server for years. However, in the case that we need to close the server down, we will provide at least 3 months notice to give you time to migrate.

Domain blocking policy

Our goal in blocking domains is to reduce attacks on users as well as remove hateful content from the federated timeline. We will add new domains to the block list by monitoring #fediblock, the block lists of similar servers, and based on user reports.

Rules that, if you break them, will get you kicked off of carhenge.club immediately:

• Do not advocate for MAGA, Nazis, or other fascist movements, nor for their leaders such as Donald Trump (the "Ravelry Rule")
• Do not target people with unwelcome sexual images or post them in an off-topic or inappropriate context
• No "revenge porn"
• Do not contact people who have requested that you stop contacting them
• Do not "out" any aspect of a person's identity (such as their sexual orientation) without their consent except as necessary to protect vulnerable people from intentional abuse

Welcome on the Mastodon instance hosted by the Pirate Party Belgium (PPBe).

We host this instance so that people who feel they are Pirates can have a nice space for them in the Fediverse. You don't have to agree with everything in our basic text, but it will give you a good overview of what a Pirate is and what our values are.

Please read our Code of Conduct before joining us. It might sound harsh, but there are thousands of other instances and you can even host your own.

The instance server is paid with PPBe money and is maintained by the ITSquad. As for any IT service, the expenses are publicly displayed on our wiki page. The people running this instance are volunteers, so please do take it into account before complaining. Do not hesitate to contribute if you appreciate what we do!

Code of Conduct

If you want to contribute to this Code of Conduct, you can contact the @ppbe account with what you would like to change. You can also join us at our monthly Pirate Lab!

This Code of Conduct aims to define some guidelines so that this Mastodon instance stays a pleasant place to be. It's not a rulebook, as things are rarely black & white anyway. We expect you to agree to this Code of Conduct and, with time, to grow trust in the moderation team who has to make it a concrete reality with your help.

First thing to know is that each user has their own moderation tools. If you have an issue with another user (from whatever instance) or with a whole other instance, you can discuss with them, mute them or block them.

It's a good idea to report the problematic behaviour only when you think they disrespect the guidelines below. The moderation team will then consider taking actions against them, and can either discuss, warn, mute or block them to prevent them from interacting with anyone from our instance (see section "How is moderation handled?").

Changes to this Code of Conduct will be announced on the @ppbe account. Users who want to discuss about the moderation can send a message to the @ppbe account. New users on our instance are following that account automatically to be informed.

Guidelines

Users from our instance and users who are interacting with us are expected to follow these basic human decency guidelines:

1. No illegal stuff according to Belgian law
2. No spamming, which includes using our instance for referencing
3. Be respectful to other people. For example:
   
   
   1. No bully / no harassment
   2. Respect people's gender / pronouns
   3. Assume good faith
   4. Respect their privacy (no scraping the timelines, don't post private/direct messages public, ...)
   5. Avoid posting graphic violence and porn in public timelines without content warning.
   
   

In addition, by creating an account on our instance, we strongly recommend that you agree with these guidelines specific to our instance:

1. Bots and community managed accounts are tolerated as long as you don't post on the public timeline (i.e. followers-only or unlisted). If you plan to publish on the public timeline, please contact us first;
   
   
   1. Pirate Party related accounts who wish to publish on the public timelines can also consider checking with one of the other instances run by Pirates
   
   
2. Crossposting from Twitter is tolerated, but we recommend to:
   
   
   1. Avoid crossposting retweets (it's unreadable anyway),
   2. Use the followers-only mode if you post often on Twitter, so you don't flood the public timeline;
   
   
3. Use, when possible, an alternative to publishing links to surveillance capitalism websites (like Facebook, Twitter...). Also please try to clean the URL you publish (e.g. don't use URL-shorteners, remove things like "?fbclid=") so you don't become complicit of surveillance.

Being a member of the Pirate Party or contributing to the Pirate Party does NOT absolve you to respect these guidelines.

How is moderation handled?

First, the moderation team discuss about which action should be taken regarding the problematic account. Usually, they try to contact the person in order to explain what is the problem, and to clarify if needed. Once a consensus is reached within the moderation team, they can decide whether to block or mute the account.

In the case of spamming, harassment, bullying, porn without content warning and, in some case, illegal stuff, a moderator can decide by themself to block or mute the account. However, this action will be reported to the moderation team. A discussion may follow to see if this was the right action to take.

The moderation team can decide to block or mute a whole instance when they feel the community is problematic. For example, they would mute any dedicated porn instance where users don't use content warnings. They would block instances that don't respect users privacy, or that are dedicated to bullying, fascism, etc. If they have solid information about that instance, they might react preventively (e.g. a known fascist community opens an instance).

Whenever an instance is blocked or muted, a public statement is made with the PPBe account. The list of moderated instances (blocked or muted) can be consulted at the bottom of this page.

What if I don't agree with the decision?

The moderation team works in good faith and tries to take the best decisions using the current guidelines. If you think we made a mistake, don't hesitate to tell us.

If eventually, you still disagree with the moderation team's decision, please remember that there are many other available Mastodon instances.

I want to help!! How can I become a moderator?

The instance members who wish to become moderator can apply to join the moderation team. This application will be considered by the moderation team.

As there must be a good vibe within the moderation team, it is up to them to decide whether to include a new member or not (co-optation).

Bienvenue sur l'instance Mastodon du Parti Pirate de Belgique (PPBe).

Nous hébergeons cette instance afin de permettre aux personnes se définissant comme Pirates d'avoir un espace agréable pour elles sur le Fediverse. Vous ne devez pas être d'accord avec tout ce qui se trouve dans notre texte de base, mais cela vous donnera un bon aperçu de ce qu'être Pirate signifie et quelles sont nos valeurs.

Veuillez lire notre Charte avant de nous rejoindre. Cela peut sembler sévère, mais il y a des milliers d'autres instances, et vous pouvez même créer votre propre instance.

Le serveur qui héberge l'instance est payé avec l'argent du PPBe et est géré par l'ITSquad. Comme pour tous nos services informatiques, les dépenses sont publiées sur notre page wiki. Les personnes qui gèrent cette instance sont toutes bénévoles : merci de bien vouloir prendre cela en compte avant de vous plaindre. N'hésitez pas à venir nous aider si vous appréciez ce que nous faisons !

Cette Charte a pour but de définir quelques règles de bonne conduite, ceci afin que cette instance Mastodon reste un endroit agréable. Ce n'est pas un texte de Loi, les choses n'étant jamais simples de toute façon. Nous attendons de vous que vous soyez d'accord avec cette Charte et, avec le temps, que votre confiance grandisse en l'équipe de modération qui a la tâche, avec votre aide, d'en faire une réalité concrète.

La première chose à savoir est que chaque membre de l'instance dispose de ses propres outils de modération. Si vous avez des soucis avec une autre personne (peu importe son instance) ou avec une instance entière, vous pouvez discuter avec elle, la masquer ou la bloquer.

Il est conseillé de ne signaler le comportement problématique d'une personne que si vous pensez qu'elle ne respecte pas les règles ci-dessous. L'équipe de modération envisagera alors les actions à prendre à ce sujet et pourra en discuter avec la personne en question, l'avertir, la masquer ou la bloquer afin de l'empêcher de continuer à interagir avec quiconque sur notre instance (voir aussi la section "Comment la modération est-elle gérée ?").

Les changements à cette Charte seront annoncés via le compte @ppbe . Les personnes qui veulent discuter de la modération peuvent envoyer un message au compte @ppbe. Toute personne qui nous rejoint sur l'instance suit automatiquement ce compte, ceci afin de rester informé·e.

Règles de bonne conduite

Il est attendu des personnes utilisant notre instance et de celles qui interagissent avec nous qu'elles respectent ces règles de bonne conduite permettant de préserver une dignité humaine de base :

1. Pas de contenu illégal selon le droit belge
2. Pas de spam, y compris le fait d'utiliser notre instance pour du référencement
3. Soyez respecteux·se envers les autres personnes. Par exemple :
   
   
   1. Pas d'intimidation/pas de harcèlement
   2. Respectez le genre/pronoms des autres personnes
   3. Supposez la bonne foi
   4. Respectez leur vie privée (pas d'extraction des données des flux (scraping), pas de publication des messages privés/directs,...)
   5. Évitez de publier des images de violence explicite et du porno dans les flux publics sans avertissement préalable (content warning)
   
   

De plus, en créant un compte sur notre instance, nous conseillons fortement que vous suiviez les règles suivantes, spécifiques à notre instance :

1. Les bots et les comptes gérés par un ou des community managers sont tolérés tant que vous ne postez pas dans le flux public (par exemple en "abonné·es uniquement" ou "non listé"). Si vous avez l'intention de publier dans le flux public, prenez contact avec nous au préalable ;
2. Le crossposting à partir de Twitter est toléré, mais nous conseillons de :
   
   
   1. Évitez de crossposter des retweets (c'est illisible de toute façon) ;
   2. Utilisez le mode "abonné·es uniquement" si vous postez souvent sur Twitter, ainsi vous ne noierez pas le flux public ;
   
   
3. Utilisez, si possible, une alternative à la publication de liens vers des sites web du capitalisme de surveillance (comme Facebook, Twitter...). Essayez aussi de nettoyer les URL que vous publiez (par exemple n'utilisez pas de raccourcisseurs d'URL, supprimez les choses comme "?fbclid="), ainsi vous ne devenez pas complices d'une société de surveillance.

Être membre du Parti Pirate de Belgique ou contribuer au Parti Pirate ne vous dispense PAS du respect de ces règles de bonne conduite.

Comment la modération est-elle gérée ?

Tout d'abord, une discussion au sein de l'équipe de modération a lieu pour savoir quelle action devrait être prise au sujet de la personne qui pose problème. En général, l'équipe essaie de contacter la personne afin de lui expliquer le problème et de clarifier la situation si nécessaire. Lorsqu'un consensus est atteint au sein de l'équipe, celle-ci peut décider de bloquer ou masquer le compte.

En cas de spam, d'intimidation, de harcèlement, ou de porno sans avertissement préalable (content warning), et dans certains cas, de contenu illégal, un·e modérateur·ice peut décider seul·e de bloquer ou masquer le compte. Cependant, cette action sera rapportée à l'équipe de modération. Une discussion pourra s'ensuivre afin de savoir si c'était la bonne mesure à prendre.

L'équipe de modération peut décider de bloquer ou masquer une instance entière quand elle estime que la communauté pose problème. Par exemple, l'équipe masquerait une instance dédiée au porno dans laquelle les utilisateurs n'utilisent pas d'avertissement préalable (content warning). L'équipe bloquerait des instances qui ne respectent pas la vie privée des utilisateurs, ou dédiées au harcèlement/à l'intimidation, au fascisme, etc. Si l'équipe a des informations crédibles sur une telle instance, elle peut agir préventivement (par exemple si une communauté fasciste notoire ouvre une instance).

Quand une instance est bloquée ou masquée, une déclaration est faite sur le compte du PPBe. La liste des instances modérées (bloquées ou masquées) peut être consultée en bas de cette page.

L'équipe de modération fait de son mieux pour prendre ses décisions. Si vous pensez que nous avons fait une erreur, n'hésitez pas à nous le dire.

Je veux vous aider !! Comment puis-je faire partie de l'équipe de modération ?

Les membres de l'instance qui souhaitent rejoindre l'équipe peuvent évidemment poser leur candidature qui sera étudiée par l'équipe de modération.

Il doit y avoir une bonne ambiance entre les différents membres de l'équipe de modération, dès lors la décision d'inclure un nouveau membre revient à l'équipe (co-optation).
