This search engine for Mastodon instances is based on a database that gets updated by our crawler every night (CET).

Instances are considered new for 30 days after they are discovered.

When an instance has not responded to our daily checks for more than 30 days it is no longer considered in statistics and searches and it gets checked only on the first of the month, rather than daily, until it possibly responds again, or until its last succesful check is one year old; in this latter case, from that moment it gets checked only on the first day of each year.

“Random ordering” of results varies daily.

Default search criteria reflect our fondness for a decentralized and egalitarian Fediverse and our attempt to exclude instances accepting fascist, racist, sexist, ableist, sovereignist, pro-nuclear and pedopornographic contents by marking them as noxious.

retro.pizza is a poly-fandom nerd culture server where we strive to uphold the values of the fictional heroes we admire: to value diversity like the X-Men, to be as kind as the Doctor, to defend the weak like Optimus Prime and fight against fascism like Princess Leia.

This is a queer-run instance, and while that's not the "theme", it is moderated accordingly. A Director's Cut version of the rules can be found HERE You don't have to read it, but you should, because I like to think some of the writing is kind of clever.

Our server logo art uses a background from Freepik, text generated by Text Studio, pizza from Melting Pot Pizza, and is based on an original concept by @triphazard.

Instance rules
  1. MOST IMPORTANTLY: No Nazis, no TERFs, no hate speech, no homophobia, no transphobia, no racism, no misogyny, no antisemitism, no Q bullshit. No, anti-hate speech it not itself a kind of hate speech.
  2. Use a Content Warning (CW) for adult/NSFW content, spoilers, discussions of potentially upsetting/stressful political events, and subjects likely to be upsetting/traumatic (i.e. suicide) or trigger a common phobia. Read the Director's Cut for specifics.
  3. Bots are fine so long as they're contributing something fun to the community and marked using the "This is a bot" checkbox in their profile.
  4. Advertising is only allowed for personal projects (i.e. podcasts, YouTube channels, Twitch streams, personal shops, etc.). It is also ENCOURAGED for personal projects -- show off your stuff!
  5. The administration and moderators are the final say in any disputes on the site. The administration reserves the right to ban based solely on Edgelord/Channer Vibes.

  • Spam accounts are defined as having one or more of the following characteristics:

    • Inauthentic accounts representing fictitious individuals and/or (actual or fictitious) organizations. The creation of inauthentic accounts may include the use of scraped images/text to falsely establish identity.
    • Accounts created for malicious purposes or for purposes of abusing server resources through mass DMs or other related activities.

  • theATL.social wants to be a good citizen in the #fediverse and welcomes users who share that goal. Server rules are established and actively moderated to achieve this goal. Users are asked to kindly review Server Rules before participating or joining the server.

What is Pan?

Pan is a node of the Fediverse, an ensemble independent servers/communities/nodes that communicate among each others.

  • fight against Fascism and authoritarian exercises of power
  • believe in the right of gender auto-determination, and we condemn any kind of gender discrimination

The story of this server

Tommi, the founder and administrator of this instance, has been a long time Fediverse enthusiastic user.

During Scambi Festival 2022, he invited the Italian collective Etica Digitale to host a Lab about it, and for the occasion we deployed a temporary, experimental Mastodon server.

In November 2022 we decided to step up the game, and found a more stable and meaningful instance. We named it Pan. This instance is born out of the necessity of creating a cozy, friendly, young, enthusiastic, and tight community of people who believe in the same values and have some things in common.

Why this name?

Scambi Festival’s staff invented Paneurethic, a neologism synthesizing the essence of our purposes and our values. In a hurry to decide how to name our community, our fabulous Lea and Marghe suggested Pan, from the ancient Greek Πάν (Everything). This terms reflects the chaotic vortex of our collective action, while sharing the root of our neologism.

But how does the pan.rent domain name comes into play?
While scrolling through all the possible domain names, Tommi stumbled upon this TLD, and he could not avoid thinking about his favorite musical ever, the 1996
