This search engine for Mastodon instances is based on a database that gets updated by our crawler every night (CET).

Instances are considered new for 30 days after they are discovered.

When an instance has not responded to our daily checks for more than 30 days it is no longer considered in statistics and searches and it gets checked only on the first of the month, rather than daily, until it possibly responds again, or until its last succesful check is one year old; in this latter case, from that moment it gets checked only on the first day of each year.

“Random ordering” of results varies daily.

Default search criteria reflect our fondness for a decentralized and egalitarian Fediverse and our attempt to exclude instances accepting fascist, racist, sexist, ableist, sovereignist, pro-nuclear and pedopornographic contents by marking them as noxious.

olsberg.social ist eine lokal ausgerichtete Mastodon-Instanz für Olsberg und die Region. Sie richtet sich an Menschen, Vereine, Initiativen, Kulturschaffende und Betriebe, die einen ruhigen, respektvollen digitalen Ort suchen.

Die Instanz versteht sich als digitaler öffentlicher Raum – vergleichbar mit dem Marktplatz oder dem Vereinsheim: sichtbar, nachvollziehbar und von gegenseitigem Respekt getragen. Reichweite entsteht hier nicht durch Algorithmen, sondern durch Relevanz und Nähe.

It is prohibited to use any data or content from the instances listen below for training of or developing any artificial intelligence or machine learning model without obtaining explicit consent from the copyright owner. Any unauthorized use of data or content for AI/ML purposes will be considered a violation of copyright laws and may result in legal action.

Moderated languages

Regardless of political orientation, our moderators try to moderate all posts equally and objectively in accordance with our server rules. Of course, this is only possible for languages that we understand - therefore only German and English are possible as languages on our instances. In case of doubt, we reserve the right to restrict or delete messages in other languages.

Federation with Meta (Facebook) / Instagram

Our servers have preemptively blocked federation with threads.net. This rule might be changed in the future, when we know how threads.net implements federation via ActivityPub and how they act on reports coming from the Fediverse.

About mastodon.scot

mastodon.scot is administered by volunteers based in Scotland. Our primary servers are located in Germany, with backup infrastructure in Scotland. These are shared resources that also power mas.to.

We currently have 140 processor threads, 550GB memory and 46TB of primary storage available.

Donations

We run mastodon.scot as a free service because we love Mastodon, but it costs us lots of money! If you'd like to donate towards our running costs you can contribute by buying Trumpet a donut. Or lots of donuts! Trumpet loves donuts.

The current recurring monthly costs for our shared infrastructure total £992.46, including:

  • Server hosting - £638.17
  • CDN/object storage - £217.89
  • Mail delivery - £26.40
  • Translation - £60
  • Backup infrastructure - £50

Our current monthly donation income (before processing fees and charges) is £1,102.93.

Moderation

Moderation of this server is carried out by our volunteer moderators on a best-efforts basis, based on interpretation of content posted to the server against our published rules.

We subscribe to the IFTAS pledge against targeted misgendering and deadnaming in the Fediverse.

We’re working with Gaza Verified to welcome and provide a safe space for Palestinians.
