This search engine for Mastodon instances is based on a database that gets updated by our crawler every night (CET).

Instances are considered new for 30 days after they are discovered.

When an instance has not responded to our daily checks for more than 30 days it is no longer considered in statistics and searches and it gets checked only on the first of the month, rather than daily, until it possibly responds again, or until its last succesful check is one year old; in this latter case, from that moment it gets checked only on the first day of each year.

“Random ordering” of results varies daily.

Default search criteria reflect our fondness for a decentralized and egalitarian Fediverse and our attempt to exclude instances accepting fascist, racist, sexist, ableist, sovereignist, pro-nuclear and pedopornographic contents by marking them as noxious.

bigshoulders.city is a Mastodon instance for Chicagoans current, former, and future. Its name comes from Carl Sandburg, who once compared ships pulling out to “mastodons, arising from lethargic sleep.”

Our goal for bigshoulders.city is to build a community of friends and neighbors across the Windy City. Toot your pho place recommendations, meet-up ideas, pothole gripes, creative dibs, and cross-town baseball taunts—whatever you want, as long it abides by <a href="https://bigshoulders.city/terms">our short and sweet content policy</a>.
Long description
Bigshoulders.city welcomes all sexualities, gender identities, races, levels of mobility, and ages; we embrace a user base as diverse and vibrant as nature’s metropolis, Chicago.

If a user posts a message that mocks, harasses, endangers, threatens, or otherwise puts at risk any other person on the basis of the criteria above, they will be banned from bigshoulders.city.

Whatever the intentions behind it, unsolicited advice—especially involving a user's health and wellness—is often indistinguishable from harassment and will be treated as such.

Please use the Report button; it is the easiest way for an admin to identify abuse. Decisions to ban do not have to be justified or detailed by the admins, nor will they be.

When in doubt, follow the Midnight Amendments.

Bots can be fun and useful under the right circumstances. Partner with the admin if you’re interested in adding a bot account to bigshoulders.city.

Mastodon’s robust support for content warnings (CWs) is a valuable part of the platform. We do not have formal rules around CWs, but repeated posts of sensitive content without them may result in a message from an admin.Before you ask another person to CW something that is disruptive to you, consider whether one of the myriad other options for personal content moderation—muting, blocking, unfollowing, or filtering words—would achieve the result of removing that content from your own timeline.

  • Spam accounts are defined as having one or more of the following characteristics:

    • Inauthentic accounts representing fictitious individuals and/or (actual or fictitious) organizations. The creation of inauthentic accounts may include the use of scraped images/text to falsely establish identity.
    • Accounts created for malicious purposes or for purposes of abusing server resources through mass DMs or other related activities.

This server aims to provide a safe space for 18+ furry ABDLs who identify with any age, be they babyfur, kidfur, teenfur, caretaker, and so on! This server is open to anyone who partakes in or is curious about the furry ABDL community. All fluffies, scalies, and humans are welcome, crinkling not required! However, expect to see many types of crinkly critters, their photos, and their art on this instance.

Please be aware that this is an ABDL/babyfur space and as such our Content Warning policy around ABDL material may be more relaxed than other furry servers.

Note: Our name is cubhub.social but cub porn is NOT allowed.

Why The Name?

I picked the name 'CubHub.social' because, despite the current negative connotation around the word 'cub', CubHubs were the first places at furry conventions I felt safe being an ABDL while also coming to grips with my furry side. For those who don't know, CubHubs are private rooms/party rooms that serve as safe spaces for babyfurs, kidfurs, diaperfurs, etc at conventions. Before ABDLs were as accepted into the fandom as they are now, CubHubs were the only place where it was absolutely safe to be yourself. So, yeah, I couldn't think of a better ethos to bring to the Fediverse. I want CubHub to be a safe space on Fedi for all fuzzy ABDLs.

Content Warning How-To

There is a ⚠️ button under your post compose box. When clicking on it, it'll open a new text box that'll let you fill out a description of the post content.

When tagging, be concise but also descriptive of the contents of the post. Examples being, don't say 'NSFW' but instead try 'Messy Diapers' or 'M/M Yiff'. Similarly, don't say 'News', try 'US Politics, Elections' to help out non-US users.

Content warning moderation isn't particularly strict. If your post is missing a Content Warning, a staff member will usually mark it as sensitive and ask that you add CW tags to it. Repeatedly failing to use CWs will result in a time-out and your video games taken away, or just having your account marked as sensitive.

Moderation

Failure to adhere to the server rules may lead to something as simple as a warning, up through content removal, silencing, and a ban. If you feel action taken against you was incorrect, you may appeal the action to the administration. However, we have a zero tolerance policy for hate speech or pro-fascist imagery of any kind, and it will result in an immediate ban with no appeal. Nazi symbols, Confederate imagery, content in favor of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Zionist imagery and rhetoric, and Blue Lives Matter talk are all unwelcome here.

If a post violates our rules, we ask that users fill out a report for the moderation staff. Please do not confront other users directly.

If a post from another server appears in our federated timeline and has content that breaks our rules, please report it! If it's art that's simply missing a CW, a moderator can mark it as sensitive. If it's something more egregious, the user or even the instance can be limited or defederated from us.

Hashtags

Using Hashtags

Using hashtags immensely boosts the visibility of your posts! Because there are no algorithms, it's up to users to find the content they want to see. As such, using hashtags makes discoverability much easier. #FurryArt, #ABDLArt, or #BabyfurArt are all hashtags people are following and will mean your post will be seen by more users.

Following Hashtags

Mastodon allows you to follow hashtags so you can have any posts tagged with a hashtag show up in your Home timeline. To follow a hashtag, type the hashtag you want to follow in the search box then hit the follow button in the top right corner.

Roleplaying

As our community has such a large roleplaying community, we recommend users indicate whether or not they roleplay in their profile. Users looking to roleplay should check the profile of the person they're interacting with to see if they're up for it and ask if they're unsure.

Image Accessibility

When posting images, we implore all users to include a description of what is in the image by providing alt text. To add alt text, click the edit button while you're posting your picture and fill in the details under "Describe for the visually impaired" and save it. This really helps users with accessibility needs! Many Mastodon users will only boost images with alt text, so it's a good habit to get into.

Markdown In Posts

You can use Markdown in your posts by clicking the icon below the compose box that looks like a sheet of paper, then clicking Markdown. You can set your posts to default to Markdown by going into your Settings > Preferences > Other > Default format for toots and selecting Markdown.

Federation

Any user you follow from another instance will then federate with our server. This means any and all posts they make will appear on our federated timeline, unless the server has been limited (see the Moderated Servers section below).

If a user/post isn't federated with us that you want to follow/like/boost, you can copy the link to the user/post into the CubHub search box and our server will federate it, thus allowing you to interact.

CubHub Interface Tweaks

Our server runs a version of Mastodon based on Ruffy that's a fork of Glitch-Soc. Ruffy has a two-column theme, customizable accent colors, emoji reactions, and much more.

To see all of the available options to tweak the look of CubHub, click the three cog wheels icon in the top right of the desktop interface, or Interface settings in the hamburger menu of the mobile interface!

Mobile Apps

While the default Mastodon mobile app is good enough, it's missing features that are custom to CubHub. To this end, we recommend that Android users use Moshidon. From there, users can go to Overflow Menu > Settings > Instance and turn on Enable post formatting, Enable emoji reactions, and Server supports local-only posting and make sure Glitch local-only mode is off.

Server Information

Transparency Pledge

We want to run this instance with as much transparency as possible. Please, if users have any questions at all, contact anyone on the moderation or administration staff. If there are any moderation questions, technical questions about the server, and so on, we'd be more than glad to answer them.

The Server's Longevity

A lot of users have concerns about admins abruptly shutting down their instances and the users losing what they've built. CubHub is completely and utterly committed to keeping the server going long-term and continuing to be a place for furry ABs, DLs, middles, grown-ups, etc to congregate. However, in the event of something catastrophic, here is our pledge:

  1. If the admin is unable to continue to administrating the server, the server will be handed over to someone the community has approved of running the instance.
  2. If a replacement can't be found, the server will remain up for at least 30 days from the initial notice of closure, so users can migrate their content and their followers to a new instance with plenty of notice.

A Note From Rusty: This is like some worst case scenario stuff, but I want people to feel safe hosting their content here and know there's a backup plan in the event of catastrophe. I love running this instance and I love this community and I really don't wanna go anywhere!

Translation Tool

CubHub has a translation button for posts that do not match your interface language. This service uses DeepL. This means that, in order for posts to be translated, they will be sent to the DeepL servers for translation. Please refer to their Privacy Policy for any privacy or data security concerns. DeepL is fully GDPR compliant.

You must have your post language set correctly in order for the translation tool to work properly. You can select your language in the compose box next to the CW button.
Instance rules
  1. No minors. This is an adult instance and minors are not allowed. You must be 18+ to join and interact.
  2. No cub/child porn. No porn depicting any underage character in a sexual situation or in the presence of one is allowed. Cub/child nudity with exposed genitalia is similarly not allowed.
  3. No zoophilia. Do not post art depicting any animal in a sexual situation. Quadruped characters with full human mental faculties are fine.
  4. Use content warnings (CW's) for text posts when appropriate. If discussing topics such as politics, current events, mental health, plot spoilers, descriptions of sex/kink, or other subjects users may find objectionable or triggering, you must content warn it and tag it appropriately.
  5. Use content warnings (CW's) for sensitive media. Any media that features nudity/yiff/heavy kink/straitjackets & tied up characters/impact play & spanking/material with the intent to arouse, alcohol/drug use, violence/gore, or other objectionable/triggering content must be tagged with a content warning. Leaking/messy diapers must be CW'd.

EduMasto is administered by Veterans Education Success, an educational nonprofit in Washington, D.C. It is moderated by Brendan Cantwell (@cant_b) and Barmak Nassirian (@Barmak)
Instance rules
  1. EduMasto is a Mastodon server whose primary purpose is to facilitate conversation about higher education issues, but conversations are not limited to that topic: feel free to share your thoughts on any topic of your choosing.
  2. Because our goal is to promote civil and productive conversations among real people, only personal (i.e., no organizational or corporate) accounts for individuals (i.e., no anonymous accounts or bots) will be approved.
  3. This server is intended as a platform for individuals professionally involved in higher ed policy. Please use “Why do you want to join?” to help us identify you. If using Gmail/etc., please include your university/govt/work email in your response
  4. This will be an inclusive online community: all higher education policy stakeholders, including colleagues in other countries, are welcome to join.
  5. Please be mindful of the fact this is an experiment and we don't know how sustainable or successful it will be. If it works, you can enjoy a more civilized local timeline while retaining full access to the entire Mastodon network. If it doesn't, you can always move your account to another server.
  6. PLEASE use your FULL NAME as the display name in your profile. We want people to get to know each other and odd handles and anonymity don't promote that.

Server Goals
Trans House aims to be inclusive to all who identify with the trans community. No matter your identity, your transition plans or lack thereof, or anything else, you are more than welcome to make a home here. The vision of this server is to create a more narrowly-focused community catering specifically to trans people. Not in opposition to the broader LGBT+ community or to the many excellent LGBT+ instances, but to have a space where trans people can feel the most comfortable to be themselves in their own community. Transphobia, harassment, chasers, unsolicited exposure to upsetting topics, and other ills of other social media will be able to be more effectively managed, creating the safest environment possible for trans people to be themselves!

Community Guidelines
This instance aims to be broadly inclusive and respectful. It also aims to be a safe space. This means do not sexualize others without their consent. Be mindful of other's experiences as well. Avoid speaking for other people. Avoid saying things that could be hurtful, such as saying other trans people give you dysphoria. Please also avoid personal attacks and generally stirring of the pot.

Why Join?
This is the only instance that I am aware of that caters specifically to the trans community. If you are looking to find community with other trans folks I hope this community is the place to be. By being on this instance you will be able to more easily find and interact with members of the trans community through your local timeline and by browsing the instance. That said, there are many excellent LGBT+ focused instances out there, and I encourage you to pick an instance that best matches your interests and identity!

What do I include in my request to join
Please simply explain why you want to join the server, and maybe where you heard about it. Most people will be accepted, but a suspicious username choice, email, or an attempt to hide your IP could result in your application being rejected. New users may also be watched more closely by moderators to ensure there is no funny business, to ensure the safety of the community.
Instance rules
  1. No intolerance of any kind. Meaning to transphobia (obviously), homophobia, aphobia, sexism, racism, ableism, or any other form of bigotry. This includes transmedicalism. This does not include discussion of intolerance.
  2. Do not share illegal content. I don't want to have to pay legal fees :)
  3. Spoiler any NSFW content. People should feel comfortable browsing this instance in public.
  4. No gatekeeping or otherwise policing other's identity.
  5. Sexual harassment and non-consensual sexualization is strictly forbidden. This instance does not welcome chasers. Consensual sexualization is perfectly fine, but do not sexually harass our members.
  6. Impersonation is not allowed. Any parody accounts must be clearly marked as such in display name to prevent misinformation.

I work in cybersecurity, mostly doing software engineering, and in my free time I mostly like to read but I also play a few games, watch some TV and movies, you know, the usual things.
