The Waypoint community an inclusive, fun, and safe place to talk about games and other things. Waypoint is focused on "why we play" and that’s the common interest that brought us all here.

Rules

Rule 1: Bigotry, including but not limited to discrimination or hate speech based on race, gender, sexuality, religion, disability, or any other attacks on one’s personhood, will not be tolerated.

Rule 2: Threatening behaviour or harassment of any kind will not be tolerated. Our community and its platforms are not to be used to launch attacks on anyone. Do not post screenshots of DMs or posts marked as private without the consent of all involved. This applies even if identifying information is removed.

Rule 3: This is a space for people with myriad backgrounds. When replying, consider whether your perspective is needed or whether you’d gain more by listening. Conversely, if you feel someone is out of their lane, please raise the issue with a moderator. Don't assume everyone is like you, especially if you grew up or live in the global West, are White, Cis, Able-Bodied, Neurotypical, Financially Secure, or any combination therein. If you don’t know about a topic, research it.

Rule 4: Use content warnings when posting depictions of sex and sexuality, substance abuse, violence, disease, body horror, and death. Mark images as sensitive if they contain nudity, gore, food, or any of the above subject matter. Do not post about gun ownership or recruit people into organizations that advocate for gun ownership. If you're unsure, play it safe and use a content warning.

Note: We cannot guarantee that other Mastodon servers will adhere to our content warning standards. If you come across untagged content that you don't wish to see, please report it so we can hide it from the public timeline.

Rule 5: When posting someone else’s work (art, cosplay, and so on), please do your best to source it and provide links to the creator's social media or portfolio. If you don't have the source, do a reverse image search to look for it.

Rule 6: The following content is strictly prohibited and will result in an immediate ban: sexual depictions of children, Nazi symbolism, and promotion of cryptocurrency or NFTs.

Moderation Policy

The moderator team is made up of community volunteers who are not employed by and have no formal affiliation with VICE or its properties and should not be contacted with feedback or criticism for any content posted on vice.com or by its employees. The moderator team does not have input or control over content posted on vice.com, nor do they discuss editorial choices with the staff. They are not representatives of VICE, Waypoint Radio, or Motherboard.

We cannot see everything that goes on and have our own knowledge gaps. We are here to facilitate this server being as close to the goals laid out as possible, and we are always open to suggestions about how to do that, or to criticism about how we may have messed up. Please send a DM to the moderators to get in touch with us for any reason.

The mods take our rules seriously as they are what contribute to people feeling safe. All moderator decisions are made as a team; multiple people from different backgrounds offer their perspectives on each issue. Penalties include formal warnings and account suspensions, with scaling severity depending on the circumstances. If you continue to disregard the rules, goals, or otherwise fail to adapt, you will be banned. Disciplinary action for unprecedented events or situations not covered by our rules will vary.

What you should do if you break the rules and are warned

Realize it’s nothing personal, hold your hand up, consider you might have been wrong, and take a breath. Make an effort to do better next time and not repeat mistakes. More members than you might think have slipped up in the past, addressed the behavior, and continued to be a part of the community.

Reporting offensive or unwanted content

If you come across content that breaks our server rules, whether it was posted by an account on this server or not, the best way to let the moderators know is to use the built-in Report feature. We may not be able to handle your report for a few hours, but rest assured that we take every report seriously. Mastodon has moderation tools that allow us to block accounts from other servers, or even block entire servers as needed to keep this space safe. We also highly recommend unfollowing, muting or blocking accounts that you do not wish to engage with, regardless of whether their posts violate our rules.

Our Anti-Harassment Policy

ordinal.garden is dedicated to providing a harassment-free experience for everyone. We do not tolerate harassment of participants in any form.

This code of conduct applies to all ordinal.garden spaces, including the linux server, web host, and at local events, both online and off. Anyone who violates this code of conduct may be sanctioned or expelled from these spaces at the discretion of the moderators and/or the community in general.

While primarily a spinoff of the subreddit, we welcome new accounts from anyone who is looking for a community based on liberal values. Take a look at our local feed to see what we have to offer

This network is known as the "Fediverse"

Choosing an Instance

Deciding where to create your account will have a big impact on your experience. The administrators of an instance are responsible for:

• Maintaining a block list of instances that host objectionable content
• Creating the content policy enforced by your instance's moderators
• Ensuring that the instance stays running, and your data is secure
• Tailoring the instance experience to the needs of the community

Some instances offer lenient wild-west moderation, while others a more curated walled-garden. Some instances look and behave just like most social media platforms, while others are so customized as to be unrecognizable. mastodon.social is the most popular instance, and provides a typical vanilla social media experience, so why make an account here?

First, we offer a unique moderation philosophy. Our local feed is held to a high standard, with discussions expected to be both civil and constructive. Posts on other instances are held to a generally lower standard, but are still subject to a zero-tolerance policy for hate speech and violence. The goal is to provide both a cozy close-knit community, and typical social media experience minus the bigots

Second, as a small community we offer a more personalized experience than what you can get on other instances. This includes direct support from the admins, a voice in how moderation is handled, and thanks in part to the software Chuckya and glitch-soc we have some extra features including:

Moderation

This instance is actively moderated and reports are usually responded to within 12 hours. We do not allow racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, or other forms of bigotry. Please see our rules below for more details

As a user, Mastodon has powerful tools for deciding what content you want to see, including word filters, blocking accounts, and blocking entire instances. As such, our current policy is to only perform site-wide blocks of other instances for spam, harassment, hate speech, and illegal or otherwise highly-objectionable content. Please reach out if you think a server has been wrongfully blocked

Privacy / Legal

We use the default Mastodon privacy policy. We comply with all laws in Washington State and California where our servers are hosted and operated. Accordingly, please do not make an account here if you are under 13. Other regions may have regulations such as age restrictions for accessing social media or limitations on how personal data is handled. We do not collect your age nor location data, so don't use this website if doing so would constitute a violation of the laws in your area

It is not required to sign in to see posts made on this server. Therefore, blocking someone prevents them from replying to you, but does not stop them from reading your posts. This also means that posts made here can show up in search engine results or be archived by third parties (eg. Internet Archive's Wayback Machine). This is the same as how Reddit operates. If you're looking for more privacy, you'll want to find a Mastodon instance that supports what's known as "authorized fetch"

Administration

A minimum of 90 days notice will be given if this instance is going to shut down, and backups are automatically performed daily. That said, we are not fully compliant with the Mastodon Server Covenant due to only one person having access to the server infrastructure

Server hosting and services are provided by Digital Ocean and Amazon AWS. Monthly costs are approximately $50. We are not accepting donations at this time, but if you would like to support the growth of Mastodon as a whole, consider contributing to the Mastodon gGmbH Patreon or another small instance

Gc.c is an instance by trans women for trans folk and strives to keep the security and enjoyment of our users in mind.

Report Handling

Below are rough definitions as to how moderaters will handle reports and what actions will be taken when a user report is submitted. Of course every report will be investigated thoroughly and punishments may be more or less severe based on moderator findings.

User level:

User Silence:Minor infractions, heated arguments, frivolous accusations, and centrist rhetoric will result in the user being silenced. Users may still follow and converse with users that are silenced but their toots will not be federated. User Suspension:Major infractions, multiple and consistent infractions, abuse, hate speech, illegal content, and right wing politics will result in a full suspension. Users will be unable to interact with suspended accounts and, if the account is based on the instance, the user will not be able to log in or post.

Instance level:

Reject Media:Applied to any server that allows illegal content and illicit porn. Can be applied to a server regardless of federated, silenced, or suspended status. Domain Silence:Reserved for instances whose politics are in violation of guideline 3. Currently consists mostly of Libertarian instances and gnu.social instances that have federated. Domain Suspension:Any domain that harbours hate speech, encourages the sharing of illegal content, or where admins have been unwilling to punish users violating guidelines 1 and 2 will be given a full suspension and will no longer be able to federate with our instance.

1. No illegal content is allowed on the server and sharing such content will result in an immediate suspension.
2. Hate speech is not tolerated. This includes but is not limited to racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, classism, ableism, etc. Please report any hate speech encountered.
3. Centrist and right-wing politics are not allowed. The politics of hate (and tolerance of hate) have no place on this instance and any discussion of these policies framed in a positive light will result in the user being silenced.
4. Do not misuse the report system. Only report dangerous content pertaining to the rules above; do not create frivolous reports for disagreements over discourse or leftist politics.
5. Posts containing NSFW content or content that users may not wish to engage with must be tagged with the content warning feature.
