This search engine for Mastodon instances is based on a database that gets updated by our crawler every night (CET).

Instances are considered new for 30 days after they are discovered.

When an instance has not responded to our daily checks for more than 30 days it is no longer considered in statistics and searches and it gets checked only on the first of the month, rather than daily, until it possibly responds again, or until its last succesful check is one year old; in this latter case, from that moment it gets checked only on the first day of each year.

“Random ordering” of results varies daily.

Default search criteria reflect our fondness for a decentralized and egalitarian Fediverse and our attempt to exclude instances accepting fascist, racist, sexist, ableist or sovereignist contents by marking them as noxious.

This server is currently run and privately funded by Twitter expats who are attracted to the mastodon culture and wanted to set up an inclusive, welcoming space that keeps everything we loved about twitter and ditches everything that we personally found awful. Think of this space as a private party, thrown by members of Team Free Will from every clan, in a space we personally rented. It’s an open bar, we’ve got plenty of soft drinks and snacks and tea or coffee if you don’t want a cocktail, and we don’t care who you ship - or even IF you ship. We don’t care who your fave is, we LOVE brand new fans, we just want to love the show(s) and characters we love in peace, love, and relative harmony.

Please report behavior that violates any of these rules or the spirit of these rules. We will keep your report confidential. Please note that you may not be notified when a report you have made has led to a punitive action, and that not all punitive actions are externally visible. For (small) first time offenses, we may opt to delete offending content, escalating to harsher measures on repeat offenses. We have zero tolerance for abuse or bigotry of any kind.

    We welcome ALL Supernatural fans. We do not discriminate based on:

  • Who a fan ships or even IF they ship - not shipping is perfectly valid
  • Who their fave is (or isn’t)
  • How long they’ve been a fan
  • How “casual” or “hardcore” a fan they are.
  • Whether or not a fan has been able to go to a convention.
  • What kind of "problematic" fiction they may read or write.
  • If you love Supernatural and you care about other people, you belong here.
  • BUT YOU CAN AND SHOULD MUTE TO YOUR PREFERENCES.

All that said, art CAN AND SHOULD be whatever someone needs it to be. Be like Mark Hamill. Let people have the interpretations they want. Don’t follow anyone around to tell them why YOU don’t think Dean Winchester is gay, that sort of thing can only be read as bigotry. Think what you want. Let other people think what they want without proselytizing that yours is the one true way. Thanks in advance.

Best Practices

These are guidelines framed as expansions of our main rules, along with two additional rules concerning treatment of our mods, and treatment of our server.

1) Family don’t end with blood, so be kind to one another.

We do not tolerate cruelty. We do not tolerate discriminatory behaviour and content promoting or advocating the oppression of members of marginalised groups.

These groups may be characterized by any of the following (though this list is naturally incomplete):

  • Ethnicity
  • Gender identity or expression
  • Sexual identity or expression
  • Physical characteristics or age
  • Disability or illness
  • Nationality, residency, or citizen status
  • Wealth or Education
  • Religious affiliation, agnosticism or atheism

2) You must be at least 18 years old to use this space.

This is an adult space for adults. This is a sex positive space. We do not tolerate purity culture or purity police. Don’t kinkshame, just tag your own stuff, mute your squicks, and move on please.

3) HASHTAG AND OR CW YOUR CONTENT so other fans can opt in or out.

  • HASHTAG YOUR BIO Folks here seem to like to add their main interest hashtags to their profile. That way, say, someone who mainly posts about #Walker content can find their audience, and folks who don't want that can mute you. Easy peasy.

  4. No hate speech allowed. Don’t hate on certain actors or their spouses, on a ship, or on other fans. Love what you love, and mute or block what or who you don’t.
  5. Avoid posting art you did not create or fandom photos that you did not take. Boost the original post, or if the art/photo is not from Mastodon, credit and link to the artist/photographer, ideally after asking for their permission.
  6. Do not create any sort of corporate account for advertising purposes. Artists and Makers are of course allowed (and encouraged!) to promote their own shops and commissions.
  7. No incitement of violence or promotion of violent idealogies or symbolism, including but not limited to nazis, TERFs, and January 6th insurrectionists.
  8. We do not tolerate abuse. Do not threaten, stalk, doxx, harass, sexually harass, brigade, dogpile, name-call, intentionally misgender, or deadname anyone. Punching up to power is still okay.
  9. Do not post anything illegal in the United States of America.

Welcome to Queer.Cool! We are a Very small instance that hopes to grow slowly into a welcoming and inclusive space for the LGBTQ+ community, in particular to queer people of color and their allies. Be kind to each other and don't use this space to commit criminal activities.

Described herein, the Evidence Synthesis Hackathon (ESH) refers to an event series, consisting of in-person or online activities undertaken by voluntary groups of individuals (Participants). The ESMARConf (Evidence Synthesis and Meta-Analysis in R Conference) is the ESH’s flagship annual online conference. social.esmarconf.org refers to the mastodon instance associated with ESMARConf, which will be used as a social media platform for ESMARConf in the run-up, during and after the conference takes place.

Etiquette pointers

Many on the fediverse are trying to make social media kinder, more personal, and more accessible. Here are some things you can do to help.



  • Use content warnings liberally.

    Commonly tagged subjects include:

    • Common phobias, and triggers (spiders, blood, gross stuff, trauma, etc)
    • Politics (often: “pol”)
    • Hot takes (opinions delivered on the spot with little thought, often worded in a provocative and generalising manner)
    • Selfies
    • Public displays of affection, affectionate subtoots (often: “pda”)
    • Food
    • Money
    • Family
    • Health
    • Mental health in particular (often: “mh”)
    • Negativity
    • Negativity about oneself in particular (often: “self neg”)

    Additionally, when a lot of people are talking about one subject, it’s polite to tag that subject, using the CW as a subject field of sorts. It is also polite to tag long posts and threads similarly.

    Content warnings are invaluable in letting people decide if and when to deal with subjects that may be harmful or exhausting to them.

    It is helpful to augment a CW, indicating if it is positive (+), negative (-), a joke, a shitpost, etc. More context is always better.



  • Strive for accessibility

    You can add a caption to images or videos you upload. This helps people with sight impairments get the context of your post. Writing a good, concise caption is an art but any caption is better than none!

    Another practice that helps is spelling hashtags composed of several words #LikeThis with capital letters, as opposed to #likethis. This helps screen-reader software read them correctly.

    It’s also polite to CW posts that won’t make any sense to screen-readers at all, like ASCII art or posts spelling out things in 💶Ⓜ️🅾️🌶️❗



  • Avoid using a crossposter.

    These programs or services broadcast your posts from one network to another and back, usually between Twitter and a fediverse server like Chitter. They are controversial across the fediverse. A common criticism is that it feels like the person is “not really there,” reacting to things happening on another network entirely, and broadcasting Twitter culture, which many have come to the fediverse to avoid.

    If you want to use one despite this, it is polite to set it not to post remote posts as public, and even to set a CW on them indicating where the posts originated.


It is up to each one of us whether we want to follow these guidelines, but administrative action may be taken against members behaving counter to them to the point of disturbing others, and continuing to do so after being asked to change their behaviour.

Chitter and all of its data are hosted with Hetzner in Falkenstein, Germany.

Database backups are also stored at codl's home, in France.

DNS for the chitter.xyz domain is hosted with Route 53 from Amazon Web Services.

Chitter's status site at status.chitter.xyz is hosted with Netlify. Your browser will also contact updown.io for live status data, and S3 from Amazon Web Services for admin notices.

Keep in mind also that, depending on your post privacy settings and on who follows you, your posts and interactions may be shared with many third party instances hosted all over the world.

  1. This is a safe and welcoming community. Abusive or antisocial behaviour will not be tolerated.
  2. In particular, no hate speech or bigotry, including dogwhistles (implicit but deliberate discrimination through coded language).
  3. No posting others' personal information or private exchanges without permission.
  4. Do not continue to engage a person, or incite others to do so, after they have requested otherwise.
  5. No content that is illegal in the United Kingdom, Germany, or France. This includes "grey area" content such as sexualized, artistic depictions of minors.
  6. Sexual or sexually suggestive content must be tagged as such, with a clear content warning. Avatars and profile banners must be clean.
  7. Same goes for artistic depictions of graphic violence or gore. Real pictures and recordings of gore and violence are generally not acceptable, you better have a really good reason. Shock value is not a good reason.
  8. Bots are OK as long as they don't post to the public TL more than twice a day and don't interact with folks out of the blue. That means no followbots.
  9. When in doubt about something you'd like to post, ask a mod. When in doubt about something you saw posted, report liberally.
  10. We may take administrative action for reasons not listed here.
