Code of Conduct

This Code contains the rules and principles for participating in the Musicworld.social community. It is intended to protect all members of our community from harassment and to ensure that our community is as welcoming and inclusive as possible. This is a working document, so the Musicworld.social team may amend it from time to time.

Goals

• Provide a friendly, safe, and welcoming environment for everyone regardless of gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, disability, personal appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, age, religion, nationality, political affiliation, or other similar characteristic.
• Create a supportive community, where people freely share their passions and are excited and positive about each other’s successes.
• Protect our community from harassment, malicious or illegal content and from individual members whose goals are to disrupt our community and promote their own self-interest at the expense of the community.

Principles that Guide us

• We are not a free speech zone. This CoC lays out expected standards of conduct and behavior. You cannot say or post anything that violates these rules or principles and remain a member of our community. You must follow this CoC. If you are looking for something else, please do. It is not here.
• The Moderators are not morality or thought police. Moderators are guided by this Code of Conduct. Post what you want, if what you post follows these rules, principles and the goals outlined above. Not every member of the community will appreciate controversial or explicit posts so use Content Warnings very liberally. We use Content Warnings so community members themselves can decide whether they want to see or engage with a post that may be controversial or explicit.
• Bullies, trolls and disruptors are not welcome in Musicworld.social. We will moderate accordingly.
• This is a voluntary community. You chose to be here. When you choose to join, you have implied that you agree with this Code of Conduct and will follow it.

Rules for posting

The rules you need to follow if you want to be a member of our community are stated below.

General guidance on posting and participating in Mastodon.world

• Do not post about inflammatory, controversial subjects without a Content Warning. Ideally, you would not post about inflammatory subjects at all. However, it may be acceptable to do so in some cases, but it is never acceptable to post inflammatory content without hiding the content behind an appropriate Content Warning.
• Do not post any type of nudity without a Content Warning.
• Regarding Spam: We are not your free advertising platform. If you are here only to sell your products or services, you will be removed. Occasional posts of commercial links are OK, but when the vast majority of a user's posts are commercial in nature, we regard the account as a Spam account. Moderators will evaluate reports of Spam on a case by case basis.
• Do not engage in name calling, ad hominem attacks, or any other uncivil behaviour. Criticize ideas, never people.
• Do not report every post that upsets you. Please report posts that violate our rules but for others that you may find distasteful, or just don’t like, use the tools available to you. You can block the user or mute the conversation.

Moderation Principles

Reported content will be assessed on a balance of probabilities by the moderators. In other words, whether it is more likely than not that the content violates one or more of these rules. Moderators will suspend an account from mastodon.world when the user demonstrates that they have breached any rule several times, or if their content (including profile description) suggests that they are likely to continue to break the rules. The number of breaches leading to suspension is deliberately not defined. In egregious cases, one breach can result in suspension of the user account.

The moderation team takes a pragmatic approach to every report they receive - if they feel that a problematic post isn’t explicitly a breach of any of these rules but is inappropriate for Mastodon.world, the post will likely be removed. Users who repeatedly post problematic content or otherwise are seen by the moderators as a negative, disruptive presence in our community can be removed at the discretion of the moderation team, even if those posts or the user did not explicitly violate our rules.

Donations & Finances

Musicworld.social is run by @ruud, who also pays the bills.
Since the November 2022 user influx, those bills have gone up quite steeply.
For those who would like to contribute, the following options for donations are available:

1. No illegal content, e.g. child pornography, solicitation of illegal services, etc…
2. No posts or links to content supporting, featuring, or promoting hate groups, terrorism, mass violence or calls to violence.
3. No posts or comments supporting or promoting QAnon related content or similarly disproven conspiracy theories. Moderators have sole discretion to decide if a post violates this rule. Birds are real. The Earth is round. Get over it.
4. No posts or links featuring sexualized depictions of minors, whether photographic, written, drawn, anthropomorphic or animated.
5. No pornography featuring depictions of rape or non-consensual violence.
6. All other pornographic, erotic or NSFW content, whether photographic, written, drawn or animated, must be marked with a Content Warning.
7. No racism.
8. No visual content depicting executions, murder, suicide, dismemberment, visible innards, excessive gore, or charred bodies. All other violent imagery requires a Content Warning.
9. No visual content depicting animal abuse. All other posts related to animal abuse require a Content Warning.
10. No posting of malicious links.
11. No Spam (see Code of Conduct above).
12. No threats, bullying or attacks on an individual or group.
13. No encouragement or promotion of self-harm.
14. No accounts that impersonate anyone else unless clearly marked as such for the purpose of parody.
15. No Hate Speech. Hate speech is defined as derogatory posts or links targeting any individual or group based on race, mental or physical disability, religion, gender identity, sex, nationality, age, class or sexual orientation.
16. No “shitposting” - while humorous posts are allowed, and actually encouraged, there is no place for “shitposting” here.

マストドンは、テーマごとに「個人でも」作ることができるSNSです。それぞれのサーバのユーザーは相互にフォローでつながることができるので、各サーバでアカウントを作成する必要はありません。

アイマストドンとは、アイマスについての非公式マストドンサーバです。現在、アイマストドンのサーバは管理運営が違う3つが存在します。

imastodon.blueって何が違うの？

サーバの「ローカルルール・利用規約」がアイマストドン.netとは少しだけ違い、「ハッシュタグ」と、「タグタイムライン」の利用を推奨していますが、見た目・SNSとしての仕組みは同一です。

登録確認メールが来ない場合

登録確認等の自動メールは notify@imastodon.blue より届きますので、受信トレイ等に見当たらない場合には検索してみてください。それでも見当たらない場合は notify@imastodon.blue に登録したメールアドレスとともに問い合わせメールを送ってください。

アカウント削除について

凍結や見せないようにすることはできても、完全な削除は仕様上以下の理由で困難です。

• 接続したマストドン他サーバに負担がかかる
• 検索サービスやサーバ外に流れて行った投稿が全て削除されるとは限らない
• このサーバの同じIDは二度と取れない

どうしても削除したいのであれば、見えない措置でなんとかするのでご相談ください。

Code of Conduct and Moderation Practices

We may give warnings for behaviors such as disruption of discussions, but breaking many of our Don'ts will result in immediate account suspension.

Do

• Talk about/link to what you’re reading, working on, listening to, watching
• Post your blog post, code snippet, article, book chapter, presentation
• Ask for help
• Post pictures of your food, cat, dog, baby, signage, face. Show us the awesome/boring/terrible thing on your desk right now.
• Use descriptive text on your images
• Credit the images and art you share (ideally with a link)
• Add CWs (content warnings) to your posts liberally: label talks about politics or hate incidents, listserv commentary, rants, spoilers of TV shows, etc. CWs are metadata. We love metadata! (see FAQ for more about CWs)

Don't

The following behavior is not welcome anywhere in GLAMMRUS:

• Offensive comments related to gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, mental illness, neuro(a)typicality, physical appearance, body size, race, nationality, or religion.
• Holocaust denial and Nazi symbolism.
• Deliberate or persistent misgendering.
• Threats of violence.
• Incitement of violence towards any individual, including encouraging a person to commit suicide or to engage in self-harm.
• Deliberate intimidation.
• Publishing any individual's address, phone number, or other private identifying information without consent.
• Sexual depictions of children.
• Unwelcome sexual attention, including sharing sexual content with specific users without consent.

• Sustained disruption of discussion.
• Impersonation of living persons
• Continued communications with someone who's asked that you leave them alone.
• Unwelcome comments regarding a person’s lifestyle choices and practices, including those related to food, health, parenting, drugs, and employment.

Strongly Recommended Content Warnings

We strongly recommend considering content warnings when posting Public toots which will appear on the Local Timeline. In particular, we strongly recommend content warnings for following topics:

• Hate incidents
• National/state/electoral politics
• Gun violence
• Photographs of insects and other commonly-unsettling animals (snakes, spiders, just consider your audience)

A moderator may contact you and request you re-post a Public post under a CW. See Understanding and Using CWs for other suggestions of commonly-CWd topics.

Required Content Warnings

• Graphic violent or sexual content without a content warning
• Gratuitous advertizing or spam. It's fine to promote your work, but it shouldn't be the bulk of what you share.

Guidance for Institutional Accounts

Mastodon supports 4 levels of posting visibility: public, unlocked (also called unlisted), locked (followers-only), and private (DM). For institutional accounts we recommend making the first post of a thread public and the subsequent posts unlocked. Anyone who clicks the thread can still see the whole thread of unlocked posts, whether they follow you or not, and anyone can boost (RT) them to share with all their followers. All your public, unlocked, and locked (followers-only) posts will also go to all your followers and we have no concerns about how frequently institutions post on unlocked/locked. To make this easier, consider going to post visibility settings and choose "Unlisted" posting privacy as default.

Live Posting Conferences

If live-posting conference or presentation commentary to the Local TL, we recommend threading your posts with the first post Public, using the conference hashtag, and the rest unlocked. This will allow others to find your thread but avoid overwhelming other users who don’t have the context for your conference posts.

Known Harassers

The admins may ban or silence users whom we know to be harassers or abusers, even if they have not violated the rules of this instance. The mere presence of a harasser can make past or potential victims uncomfortable, and it can put potential victims who are unaware of the person's history in particular danger. Users are encouraged to individually mute, block, and/or report accounts they don't want to see, but at our discretion, we may take the additional step of blocking or silencing someone instance-wide if we believe they endanger the safe and welcoming space we're trying to maintain.

If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact the admins. They'll respond as promptly as they can.

Moderators

The current admins are:

• Contact joshuatj for hosting questions/concerns and moderation.
• Contact elenarchivist for account approval and moderation.
• Contact platypus for account approval and moderation.

We will respect confidentiality requests for the purpose of protecting victims of abuse. At our discretion, we may publicly name a person about whom we’ve received harassment complaints, or privately warn third parties about them. We will not name harassment victims without their affirmative consent.

Understanding and Using CWs

Mastodon offers content warnings, which allow one to post about topics while giving others an informed opportunity to decide whether or not to read your posts. Think of them as metadata for your post. Unlike hashtags, which are another great way to find or filter data (and you can use both!), CWs allow the reader to make a choice before viewing something which they may find distressing (such as racist imagery or political trends which threaten their health/job/family/friends) or ordinary things they may or may not want to see "health" or "lewd" or "rant/whine" posts. CWs are especially important on public posts, since we all use the Local timeline. Some people write very descriptive CWs. Others use shorthands popular in the Mastodon community. Common examples of CWd topics and common shorthands:

• Politics: "pol" with a country prefix such "uspol," "ukpol" or more specific clarifications, such as "politics, funding" or "politics shutdown" or "politics, 45"
• Examples of hate speech by politicians/colleagues/family/students/etc.: "Hate speech" "nazis" "fascism" "antifacism" "racism" "transphobia" "white supremacist fliers"
• Sexually explicit: common shorthands include "lewd," "kink," "PDA"
• Mental health/suicidal ideation: common abbreviations include "mh+" (good mental health stuff), "mh-" (negative mental health), "suicide"/"sui"
• Food/alcohol/drugs/meds: generally just noting the content.
• Eye-contact selfies: some mastodon users place selfies under "eye contact" if the poster is making eye contact with the viewer.
• Content types: "rant" "long" "whine" "spoilers"

An excellent longer-form CW example from 2018-01-22 would be "nazis on campus, everyday antifacism," which conveys that the post both talks about an incident with nazis on campus and the response to it.

Please also keep in mind, that all posts to Public appear in the Local timeline and Mastodon allows you to make some posts Followers-Only or Unlisted. On the other hand, if you see someone posting material which disturbs you without CWs in the main timeline, Mastodon’s mute function will mean you don’t see them. Filters can remove all posts containing a term (CWd and non-CWd) from your feeds.
