We advocate for free speech and publish content to PrivacySafe Social from 1,000+ domains across the web and the world. We can't moderate content from these outside sources if it doesn't abide by our 8 Simple Rules. However, we can choose not to publish content from specific sources. As a member of the decentralized Mastodon network, we commit to the Mastodon Server Covenant and content will be moderated according to those guidelines. Code of Conduct

1. Be a decent human. This is an inclusive server, and we actively support movements like black lives matter, and LGBTQ+ rights and respect. Intolerance, bigotry, arguments against these ideas, or attacks on individuals based on race, gender, sexual preference or identity, etc. will not be tolerated.
2. Be careful what personal information you share. This is a public server, so assume everyone can see you.
3. Please keep political discussion to a minimum. As RPG designers, GMs, and players, sometimes it creeps in, and that's okay, but this is not an open forum for political debate. Remember, Rule #1 supersedes all. Learn it, love it, live it.

13. Sustained disruption of discussion.
14. Continued communications with someone who's asked that you leave them alone.
15. Unwelcome comments regarding a person’s lifestyle choices and practices, including those related to food, health, parenting, drugs, and employment.

The following behavior is not allowed on the public timeline:

1. Graphic violent or sexual content without a content warning
2. Gratuitous advertizing or spam. It's fine to promote your work, but it shouldn't be the bulk of what you share.

Privacy Policy

This Mastodon instance is managed by Apokalyptic Publishing, a Savage Worlds Ace licensee.

What will we do with your data? Nothing. How will you be influenced by advertisers? You won't. How will we aggregate your data in order to improve your service ... none of that.

We will never share your data with anyone else, except in the case of valid legal requests if it comes to that. (Hopefully, it won't come to that!) Similarly, users and third parties are forbidden from scraping content from the instance's web interface or API; you are required to respect robots.txt files.

More privacy measures on SavageWorlds.social:

• HTTPS is used everywhere thanks to Let's Encrypt.
• No ads or trackers.
• Links are direct URLs rather than tracking redirects.

Also, for truly private data sent between two people, Mastodon offers no E2E encryption. So use Signal for the things you really want to be private.

• this is a safer space, not free-speech maximalist place. this means that we take extra care about all marginalized groups, be it based on gender, race, or disablity. be kind, check your privilege, etc. details below.

Hate speech results in an immediate ban. Here are some examples of what we mean:

It's okay to criticise things like religions, but only as long as that isn't just a wedge/shield for bigotry (eg. using feminist concepts to malign all forms of Islam instead of rationally talking about the specific forms of Islam or Islamic communities which do have mysogyny issues).

Marginalised communities (like PoC or women) being fed up with systemic problems and complaining about certain groups' lack of understanding or action about certain issues (ie. white people, men) is not hate speech. If you're not a part of the problem, you don't need to see it as an attack. :)

Generally unacceptable behaviour

These result in an immediate ban:

• Clearly being disrespectful or acting like an asshole.
• Telling someone to or suggesting that someone should commit suicide, be killed, or die. (even jokingly)
• Refusing to CW content that should be in a CW (see the Etiquette section), or refusing moderator requests to CW content.
• Advertising or preaching (promoting your own work is fine; being paid to shill/advertise for someone else is not fine)
• Making sex jokes or flirting with someone when they haven't specifically said that's okay on their profile.

Harassment and Threats

Any of these kinds of things will result in an immediate ban:

• Intentionally sending posts to someone that are designed to distress or insult them.
• Using posts, screenshots or out of context quotes to mock or make fun of someone else.
• Submitting false reports against someone else.
• Continuing to interact with someone after they have told you to stop.
• Threatening to harrass, threatening to dox, threatening to DDoS, or any other kind of threat.
• Sexual harassment or acting in a sexually predatory way.

Conspiracy theories, pseudoscience and scams

It's important that our server is a place for constructive ideas, and not ones that are used as weapons, tools of disinformation, or spreading information that can cause harm.

Some kinds of conspiracy talk and discussions of the occult and woo are fine, but these are examples of the kinds of things that are unacceptable here:

• Anti-vaxxer
• COVID denial/doomerism: ideologies normalizing the spread of COVID, rejecting risk mitigation such as masking and testing, etc.
• Climate change denial
• Flat earthers
• NWO, Illuminati, Chemtrails, Pizzagate, etc.
• Hate group conspiracy theories like Holocaust Denial.
• Pseudoscience like Homeopathy, 'healing crystals', etc.
• 'Creation Science' and other religious forms of pseudoscience.
• Promoting MLMs (Multi-Level Marketing schemes) or Ponzi schemes.
• Promoting, supporting, or using this instance to do business with cryptocurrency, NFTs, play-to-earn gaming, or the like. (Anti-cryptocurrency posting is permitted.)

Guerilla ontologies and similar things are absolutely fine.

Sexual content involving minors

Do not flirt with someone who is under 18.

Do not post illustrated imagery featuring sexualised depictions of people who appear to be underage. Even if there's something saying they are over 18, they should reasonably look like they are over 18.

Do not post erotica involving minors.

Child porn is absolutely not allowed.

Any of these will result in an immediate ban.

Etiquette

These are general things to be aware of if you use our instance. You may not be used to them, and that's okay! We're willing to help you if you stumble along the way.

If a moderator asks you to repost something with a CW or asks you to change or delete a post for a particular reason outlined in this section, it doesn't mean you're in trouble. You're just being given a friendly pointer so you can help make this space awesome for everyone 😄.

Local Timeline

(Mastodon has different 'timelines' that different people can see - the Local Timeline is a timeline everyone in this instance can see. You post to it by choosing 'Public' (the globe icon) in your post toolbar.)

We really want our Local Timeline to be an antidote to traditional social media posting; a more down to earth place where people talk about themselves and what they're up to.

• Let everyone have space to share things. Be selective about your Local posts and avoid posting too many things at once.
• Avoid posting lots of external links on the local timeline. We want everyone to share things about themselves, and reposting stuff from elsewhere can make the space feel impersonal.

Use CWs for sensitive content.

CWs (Content Warnings or Content Wrappers) are a really cool way for people to keep climate control over their Mastodon browsing experience. It's especially useful in these stressful times, but it's also useful if you or other people have particular mental health conditions or are just having a bad day.

You should CW a post when it contains any of the following topics, whether the content is good or bad. Feel free to add (+) for positive content, (~) for mixed content and (-) for negative content.

• Political current events such as elections and government actions (normally abbreviated to 'pol' along with the country/region, ie. 'UKpol', 'DEpol', etc.)
• Potentially triggering Mental Health topics (normally abbreviated to 'mh'). Many of our members come here to discuss their mental health journey, and we seek to be as welcoming and open as possible, but for the sake of other users: please CW references to self harm, suicide, helplessness and other moods and behaviours that may be contagious or trigger people in recovery
• Alcohol ('alc') and drugs
• Diet talk or weight loss Discussion of dieting, including any judgments about "healthy food" even if you're not counting calories, should be CW'd differently from "ooh yummy" types of food posts.
• Food in general
• Sexual themes or content
• Violent themes or content, blood and gore
• Themes or content about abuse
• Common phobias (Like certain animals such as snakes and insects.)
• Long posts or posts with multiple parts (please also use the 'unlisted' privacy setting for posts after the first in a thread, so that the local timeline doesn't get flooded)

Also CW images that have nudity or these areas of the body exposed:

• A certain area around the nipples (and/or the nipples themselves). From the end of the ribcage to the bust line.
• Anything less than what boxer briefs or shorts would cover around the groin area.

This applies to all bodies regardless of gender.

We don't want to ask anyone to CW their identities. We particularly don't want to ask marginalized people to CW their marginalization. We're not going to be hardline about the rules in cases where there are compelling reasons to frame what you're saying differently...

...but "this is important, so I won't CW" and "this is urgent, so I won't CW" are non-sequiturs - the importance and the urgency have nothing to do with whether that content is more accessible with a content warning.

Always write descriptions for your images.

Mastodon has an image description feature, meaning that you can attach text descriptions to the images you upload so the blind or visually impaired can understand what the image is.

There is never a time that this would not be potentially useful to someone.

Some tips for writing image descriptions:

Write:

• Placement of objects
• The kind of image it is (photo, painting, drawing, CG, chart, text, screenshot etc.)
• Colours
• People and animals
• Placement of text
• Emotions (ie. smiling)
• General surroundings)
• (Generally what is important to understanding the picture, or what the point of the picture is.)

Don't write:

• Descriptions that are too detailed.
• Details of the picture that would be obvious in the given context (like, you don't need to say that a face has two eyes, a nose and a mouth because you've said it's a face).
• Details that aren't the point or the focus of the picture.
• (Generally what isn't important to understanding the picture, or what the point of the picture is.)

Unfortunately, not all mobile apps do image descriptions, but just try your best!

Be explicit about region-specific posts.

Keep in mind that Mastodon has users from all over the world.

If you have a post (like advice or politics) that's only relevant to a certain part of the world, mention what part of the world it is for.

Avoid subtooting when you can.

Subtooting (like subtweeting) is talking about something someone else has said without talking to the person who said it directly.

This is a tempting thing to do (and sometimes an ideal thing to do) if you don't want to get into a particular situation, but it has a negative side effect if you're not careful. It can make the entire environment hostile because subtooting can make people unsure whether you might be talking about them or not.

Be careful when considering giving unsolicited advice.

We try to be respectful of the opinions and views of others. Often unsolicited advice or prosletyzing, while well intentioned, can never the less make a person feel like their beliefs, values, or experience are invalid. For this reason, you should err on the side of caution.

If you see something bad, tell your moderator(s).

Corporate social media like Twitter and Tumblr can often make people feel powerless to actually take people who behave badly out of the picture, and this can lead to an ecosystem where issues are taken out publicly, and they can create mobs that cause a lot of people stress and can also easily harm the wrong people.

Here, you have moderators who are willing and able to help you and investigate and deal with problems. Please don't post publicly about these issues, make a report or DM one of your local moderators.

Leave edgy humour and societal baggage at the door.

There are things you might be used to doing that you think are okay, but they actually hurt other people or make them feel unwelcome.

You'll need to keep in mind that these are not okay and you shouldn't do these kinds of things if you decide to make an account here.

Here are some examples:

• Rape jokes
• Making jokes at the expense of content warnings ('triggered' jokes).
• Putting marginalised people in the position of having to defend or explain their marginalisation. It's your responsibility to do your own research.
• Microaggressions (you can find some examples of what that kind of thing is here)
• Using phrases similar to 'not all men...' when someone is just venting about something they've experienced. If you're not a part of the problem, then you don't need to see it as a personal attack.
• Not using CWs properly (see the CW section above for guidance).

We'll help you if you genuinely make mistakes along the way, but please really try to keep them in mind.

Code of Conduct

Short Version

We try to handle moderation ASAP, but we may not see reports for several hours. We will get to all reports though!

We're not a free speech absolutist, and there are instances available for that. We're not interested in Nazis, TERFS, or hate speech of any sort, which we will define at our sole discretion as moderators. No homophobia, transphobia, queerphobia, racism allowed.

This instance is meant to be a friendly, welcoming space to all who are willing to reciprocate in helping to create that environment.

Long Version

The following guidelines are not a legal document, and final interpretation is up to the administration of tech.lgbt; they are here to provide you with an insight into our content moderation policies:

1. The following types of content will be removed from the public timeline:
   
   
   1. Excessive advertising
   2. Uncurated news bots posting from third-party news sources
   3. Untagged nudity, pornography and sexually explicit content, including artistic depictions
   4. Untagged gore and extremely graphic violence, including artistic depictions
   
   
2. The following types of content will be removed from the public timeline, and may result in account suspension and revocation of access to the service:
   
   
   1. Racism or advocation of racism
   2. Sexism or advocation of sexism
   3. Discrimination against gender and sexual minorities, or advocation thereof
   4. Xenophobic and/or violent nationalism
   
   
3. The following types of content are explicitly disallowed and will result in revocation of access to the service:
   
   
   1. Sexual depictions of children
   2. Content illegal in Germany and/or France, such as holocaust denial or Nazi symbolism
   3. Conduct promoting the ideology of National Socialism
   
   
4. Any conduct intended to stalk or harass other users, or to impede other users from utilizing the service, or to degrade the performance of the service, or to harass other users, or to incite other users to perform any of the aforementioned actions, is also disallowed, and subject to punishment up to and including revocation of access to the service. This includes, but is not limited to, the following behaviors:
   
   
   1. Continuing to engage in conversation with a user that has specifically has requested for said engagement with that user to cease and desist may be considered harassment, regardless of platform-specific privacy tools employed.

These provisions notwithstanding, the administration of the service reserves the right to revoke any user's access permissions, at any time, for any reason, except as limited by law.

Content Warnings and Sensitive Media

Our Content Warning (CW) policy is intended to make our server comfortable for our community. We are not trying to silence our community or police discussion, but ask that you consider those who may read your posts when making them.

Content Warnings are a feature of Mastodon that enable you to hide the body of a "toot" (post) behind a line of text. The intended use of this feature is to provide a way to discuss sensitive and/or potentially harmful topics without causing duress or harm to anyone who might stumble upon it, though content warnings may be used for a wide variety of reasons.

Images can be marked as sensitive. This is a feature which hides an image until a warning banner is clicked. Images may be marked as sensitive separately from Content Warnings, though using a Content Warning automatically marks the toot's images as sensitive.

Please note that our sensitive media rules apply to profile photos and headers as well. Since those images cannot be hidden behind sensitive media warnings, they are not allowed to contain content from enforced content warnings.

We cannot enforce content warnings on users from other instances, but can help to manage content that you see when reported to instance moderators.

Please be clear and accurate when labeling content warnings, to ensure that they follow both the letter and spirit of the enforcements that we have.

Above all, try to be polite, and come from a place of mutual respect when discussing content warnings with other. We do not condone tone policing, and want to promote healthy discussion in our community.

Moderation Transparency & Communication Policy

Previously, our instance had a standard policy of withholding all information concerning moderation decisions. While this policy could be controversial, it was made based on past experience regarding moderation transparency and the safety of our members and moderators. 99% of moderation decisions are never noticed or commented upon by members, as we are doing our due diligence to protect our community from spam, scams, harassment, abuse, and general ickiness. But when those decisions are noticed, a lot of conclusions are drawn!

This transparency and communication policy is an attempt to make more clear when we take actions that affect our community, and why they were taken. It is based on a survey conducted in early 2025, which we outlined the results of in a blog post.

There is no perfect solution to a level of transparency, nor any one agreed on definition of what that even entails. While it may seem simple to say, "be transparent about everything", that is both a reductive view, and can be quite harmful. The survey showcases some of these challenges, but crucially gave us insight on where we can improve as moderators.

How We Communicate Moderation Decisions

To balance transparency, privacy, and ethical responsibility, we will follow these guidelines when sharing moderation decisions.

We will provide general transparency reports that summarize moderation activity, including:

• Instance-wide moderation actions (for instance, blocking another instance due to harmful behavior).
• Trends in moderation enforcement (for instance, repeated spam patterns or coordinated harassment).
• Policy changes that affect how moderation is handled.

To protect user privacy and avoid undue harm, we do not publicly disclose:

• Individual reports or user-specific actions unless absolutely necessary.
• Sensitive details about incidents involving vulnerable individuals.
• Private conversations or internal discussions between moderators and users.

Some moderation actions are communicated based on context and who is affected:

• Directly affected users (such as someone suspended for a violation) will receive a private notification.
• Members impacted by larger moderation actions (such as an instance-wide block) may see a public announcement if relevant to the community. For instance, if there are a large number of members who follow users on a blocked instance.
• Requests for explanation will be considered, but we prioritize user safety and privacy when deciding what will be disclosed.

We recognize that transparency builds trust, but it must be balanced with ethical responsibility. Our commitment is to be clear about moderation practices without compromising user safety or privacy.

Note that with all of the above, moderation is still at the discretion of the local moderation team. Sometimes the decision doesn't come down to any one specific rule breaking incident, but general patterns or an overall vibe check. We will not be coerced by other instances or users into making a specific decision that does not align with our values and goals. Our primary goal is to make this instance a safe and welcoming community to all members who find our Code of Conduct reasonable.

Appeals

Mastodon has an appeal system for local report moderation built in. The limitations of this system are that only affected local users can appeal, and only via the original report action.

We have separately provided a private appeal form that you can use to provide feedback for us to review. This includes space to share which decisions, why you believe that they should be reviewed, and any other information that you can share that we may not be privvy to. The form is through Cryptpad, and only stores information that you enter, with no additional identifiable information.

Please note that submitting an appeal does not guarantee that a moderation decision will be reversed.

Above all, please remember that the moderators for this instance are real individuals with feelings, emotions, and lived experiences. While tensions may be high in the moment, all of us are working toward a shared space that we all want to participate in.

While we understand that not publishing this list for non-members is not fully transparent, we are not trying to scare off potential new members who want to ensure that their friends are not blocked. The only nefarious intent here are those who have used this information when public to harass individuals and the instance as a whole. Bluntly, if those are the people that you want to interact with, you should probably join their instance instead.
