This search engine for Mastodon instances is based on a database that gets updated by our crawler every night (CET).

Instances are considered new for 30 days after they are discovered.

When an instance has not responded to our daily checks for more than 30 days it is no longer considered in statistics and searches and it gets checked only on the first of the month, rather than daily, until it possibly responds again, or until its last succesful check is one year old; in this latter case, from that moment it gets checked only on the first day of each year.

“Random ordering” of results varies daily.

Default search criteria reflect our fondness for a decentralized and egalitarian Fediverse and our attempt to exclude instances accepting fascist, racist, sexist, ableist, sovereignist, pro-nuclear and pedopornographic contents by marking them as noxious.

Long description
This server was originally intended as a place for Catholic layfolk who had formed real relationships on other social media to have a home on Mastodon, however we are open to any and all Catholic, Catholic-adjacent, Catholic-interested, or none-of-the-above members.

Sister server to @religious.social which specifically hosts clergy, religious, and seminarians.

This server and all on-site infrastructure are operating on 100% solar power.

フォロワーのみ投稿の背景色は黒になり、公開範囲の識別が容易になります。

文字色の関係上ライトテーマにすると文字が闇に飲み込まれます。ダークかハイコントラストを使ってください。

カラム幅自動調整

上級者向けUIにおいて、閲覧しているブラウザの横幅が1680px〜2560pxの場合、4カラムで全画面表示になるようにカラム幅を拡大します。2560px以上の場合、2560px時の横幅に固定されます。

5カラム目以降は大抵画面外にバーストされます。

Famichiki is a community-driven Mastodon server operated by a small group of foreigners residing in Japan. While we primarily have English speakers in our community, we welcome users of all languages. Our platform is designed for foreigners who currently live, have lived, or are interested in living in Japan, as well as Japanese individuals seeking to engage with the international community in our chosen home.

Join our platform to connect with an active and diverse community. Whether you’re an English speaker or prefer another language, you’ll find comradeship and valuable resources for navigating life in Japan.

Volunteer Driven and Community Financed

Famichiki Mastodon is run by unpaid volunteers and our infrastructure is paid for 100% by donations from our community. While donations are not mandatory, we appreciate any contributions you can make. Donations can be one time or regular subscription payments, and even anonymously if that’s more to your liking. Contributions can be made via our Open Collective page. We’re looking at adding benefits for paying subscribers - please check @admins for further updates!

  8. Don’t post or use this server for illegal content. We are aware of Japan’s questionable laws regarding the protection of minors: ‘illegal’ here also covers all CSEM/CSAM.

Goals

Our goal is to provide a forum for discussion and first hand experiences of people for whom anonymity is crucial to safety.

Strong anonymity

Domum Social provides an anonymous platform where you can speak your truth without fear. Users can only signup or login through the Tor anonymity network so we can never see where you are coming from. We do not collect email addresses at sign up.

Broad reach

The Mastodon social network and the fediverse more broadly can still interact with posts through the "normal" non-Tor internet with no special requirements

Informed users

Securing anonymity on the server side is (relatively) easy. Maintaining anonymity while posting can be a challenge.

We're developing a Learning site with helpful guidance on the dos and don'ts of online anonymity and related topics.

We are self funded through the beginning of Arpil 2026 and are seeking crowd funding for continued operations beyond that:

This is not a free speech absolutist site.

In order to maintain our reach across the independently operated systems that make up the Mastodon network we must maintain high standards in our discourse.

A gateway to the global fediverse for the Boing crowd and anyone who knows them.

What is the fediverse

The fediverse is a world-wide conversation between people spread around in different groups. It's as if Twitter let you follow people on Facebook or you could friend a Linked-In user with your Instagram account.

Those companies are closed data-hoarders. Walled-gardens designed to hook you, and trap you, and profile you, and sell you to advertisers.

The fediverse isn't like that. It's open. It's distributed. It's interoperable. It isn't owned by mega-corporations nor is it in debt to venture capitalists.

It also has moderation systems to make everyone play nice.

Boing.world is a node in the fediverse. A bit like Twitter, only just for us, and yet federated to all the others little groups like that in the rest of the world so we can all follow and chat to each other too.

Highlights

Why is that better than Facebook or whatever?

  • We don't track you or build an advertising profile on you.
  • We don't "curate" posts with shitty AI: Your friends posts in chronological order, nothing hidden.
  • We encourage pseudonymity. We don't care what your real name is as long as you're nice. We encourage you not to use your birth name so that searching your real-life name doesn't get you here. It is against our rules to doxx people, revealing their real identity.
  • We don't have adverts. Fuck adverts.
  • You own your own data. Export it at any time. Move to a new server in the federation at any time. Start your own group at any time.
  • Posts are public by default. You are joining the global federated discussion! You may post to followers-only, but that is no way to make new friends and expand our network.

Who can join boing.world?

To be here you gotta know someone who's already here, have come to the Boing World event, or have been in the legendary before-place, of which little is spoken.

If you don't know anyone here, there are plenty of other servers in the fediverse so you can follow our user's public posts from there.

Don't try and use the app store

You can, later, if you want. Apps are available. But that's advanced-level stuff.

For now, just use the web-site. Even on your phone. It's fine. It makes it harder to spy on you. You should really prefer that by default.

Our Code Of Conduct is simple and readable and you should look it over and certainly agree to it. It's basically just promising not to be a dick.

We keep daily backups of the server, so you can rest assured that your data will not be mistakenly erased.

Emergency Access

Should there be a server emergency, the good folks at Reclaim Hosting have server access and can help answering any technical emergencies. For this reason, more than one person must have that capability.

Server Shutdown

If and when this server is ever shutdown, we will give users at least 3 months advance warning. We know very well that services shut down, and this server might meet such a fate, but you will be given more than enough notice to move house in that unlikely event.
