About This Search Engine

This search engine for Mastodon instances is based on a database that gets updated by our crawler every night (CET).

Instances are considered new for 30 days after they are discovered.

When an instance has not responded to our daily checks for more than 30 days it is no longer considered in statistics and searches and it gets checked only on the first of the month, rather than daily, until it possibly responds again, or until its last succesful check is one year old; in this latter case, from that moment it gets checked only on the first day of each year.

“Random ordering” of results varies daily.

Default search criteria reflect our fondness for a decentralized and egalitarian Fediverse and our attempt to exclude instances accepting fascist, racist, sexist, ableist, sovereignist, pro-nuclear and pedopornographic contents by marking them as noxious.

Important Notes for Instance Administrators

If you don’t want your instance to show up here, please e-mail us at masthelp[at]insicuri.net.

If your instance is behind a web firewall such as Anubis or Cloudflare, and you want it to be listed here, you must configure the firewall to allow our bot, which makes no more than a dozen HTTP requests per day, to connect to your instance, by whitelisting it by User-Agent and/or IP address. Our bot’s User-Agent is mastodon.help; the IP address from which it makes requests is the same as this site’s, 65.108.133.80.

As of today, Tuesday, July 14, 2026, there is a flaw in the bot code: if a new instance fails to respond to the bot’s first check attempt (it’s rare, but can happen), it will never be checked again; therefore, it will never appear in search results here, unless we add it “manually” (i.e., force a certain script to check it). So, if you’ve launched a new instance and want it listed here, but you notice that it still isn’t showing up a few days after, or later, please e-mail us at masthelp[at]insicuri.net, and we will add it “manually” – until we fix the issue, which should be quite soon.

  10. Private information: You may not publish or post other people's private information (such as home phone number and address) without their express authorization and permission. We also prohibit threatening to expose private information or incentivizing others to do so.
  11. Non-consensual nudity: You may not post or share intimate photos or videos of someone that were produced or distributed without their consent.
  12. Platform manipulation and spam: You may not use scientificnetwork.de's services in a manner intended to artificially amplify or suppress information or engage in behavior that manipulates or disrupts people’s experience on scientificnetwork.de.
  13. Civic Integrity: You may not use scientificnetwork.de's services to manipulate or interfere in elections or other civic processes. This includes posting or sharing content that may suppress participation or mislead people about when, where, or how to participate in a civic process.

  1. Happiness is encouraged.

    1. Try to be your best self.
    2. Be excellent to each other.
    3. Have fun.
    4. Don't be a dick.

  2. The following types of content will be removed from the public timeline, and may result in account suspension and/or revocation of access to the service:

    1. Racism or advocation of racism.
    2. Sexism or advocation of sexism.
    3. Discrimination against gender or sexual minorities, or advocation thereof.
    4. Xenophobic and/or violent nationalism.
    5. Anti-sex worker perspectives or advocation against sex workers.
    6. Homophobia, biphobia or transphobia. Trans rights are human rights.
    7. Gore and extremely graphic violence, including artistic depictions.

    4. Continuing to engage in conversation with someone that has specifically requested for said engagement to cease and desist may be considered harassment, regardless of platform-specific privacy tools employed.
    5. Aggregating, posting, and/or disseminating a person's demographic, personal, or private data without express permission (informally called doxing or dropping dox) may be considered harassment.

    Penalities for this sort of behaviour will scale in proportion to the severity of the violation, and may include revocation of access to the service.

  5. We do things differently here.

    1. Hide politics and religion posts behind a Content Wrapper (CW) so people can choose whether or not to engage with that stuff here.
    2. Consider: Does thinking or talking about this thing make me angry or sad or both? If so, a Content Wrapper is probably a good idea.
    3. Consider: Does everyone really need to see my rant? Maybe limit that post to just your own followers rather than sending it to everyone in the Fediverse.
    4. Cross-posting from other places is discouraged. If you feel you must, cross-posting must be placed behind a Content Wrapper (CW) and clearly labelled as a cross-post.

ToadSocial is a free Mastodon instance offered on a good-faith basis. The site rules are simple: don't be a jerk, and model leadership. Anything that we don't like on grounds that it is anti-social or offensive may be summarily banned. You've been warned.

The site is operated by David Troy and is optimized for performance, stability, and civility.

ToadSocial is securely hosted on IBM Cloud, using bare-metal servers and cloud object storage for maximum performance.
