About This Search Engine

This search engine for Mastodon instances is based on a database that gets updated by our crawler every night (CET).

Instances are considered new for 30 days after they are discovered (if you already have an account on the Fediverse and want to receive one daily post with a summary of the new Mastodon instances that our crawler discovers daily, you can follow @nmiab@kolektiva.social; alternatively, you can also view them here).

When an instance has not responded to our daily checks for more than 30 days it is no longer considered in statistics and searches and it gets checked only on the first of the month, rather than daily, until it possibly responds again, or until its last succesful check is one year old; in this latter case, from that moment it gets checked only on the first day of each year.

“Random ordering” of results varies daily.

Default search criteria reflect our fondness for a decentralized and egalitarian Fediverse and our attempt to exclude instances accepting fascist, racist, sexist, ableist, sovereignist, pro-nuclear and pedopornographic contents by marking them as noxious.

If your instance is behind a web firewall such as Anubis or Cloudflare, and you want it to be listed here, you must configure the firewall to allow our bot, which makes no more than a dozen HTTP requests per day, to connect to your instance, by whitelisting it by User-Agent and/or IP address. Our bot’s User-Agent is mastodon.help; the IP address from which it makes requests is the same as this site’s, 65.108.133.80.

公開範囲による投稿の色分け

フォロワーのみ投稿の背景色は黒になり、公開範囲の識別が容易になります。

文字色の関係上ライトテーマにすると文字が闇に飲み込まれます。ダークかハイコントラストを使ってください。

カラム幅自動調整

上級者向けUIにおいて、閲覧しているブラウザの横幅が1680px〜2560pxの場合、4カラムで全画面表示になるようにカラム幅を拡大します。2560px以上の場合、2560px時の横幅に固定されます。

5カラム目以降は大抵画面外にバーストされます。

This is a general-purpose Mastodon instance managed in Boston, Massachusetts. All are welcome to sign up, so long as the rules are followed.

We also relay with over 1,500 other servers, some very large. This means we share each other's posts and accounts in real time. Your posts go to those servers immediately, even if there are no follow relationships. Servers without relay relationships only share posts when there are follow relationships. Your audience is large here, and you see more posts than you would on servers that do not relay.

You can see the incoming messages arriving here from all over the Fediverse from the relay by going to our Live feed

We do not secretly shadow-ban our own users ("limit" or "silence"). We will always notify the account owner of the action and the reason.

Technical information and work log

Important to know to get the most from Mastodon, is to understand the difference between hashtag use on Twitter and on Mastodon.

You can follow hashtags in Mastodon so that any posts visible to this server that have the hashtag, will appear in your timeline. You don't have to search for a hashtag as you do on Twitter.

Therefore, using hashtags in Mastodon is important if you want people in other instances to see your post. And it's a great way to be discovered and to discover other interesting people.

You can follow a hashtag by clicking on it within a post and then clicking the "+" in the top-right corner.

On this server, the maximum number of characters in a post is 12,000. The Mastodon default is 500, but I bumped it higher. Also, note that a URL in a Mastodon post always counts as 23 characters, regardless of its true length. URL shorteners are not required for Mastodon posts.

This server prohibits posting copyright-protected materials, and we will remove these materials when notified. Anyone found posting copyrighted materials may or may not be notified before having their account suspended. A suspended account has 30 days to contact us, at admin@hear-me.social, to appeal.

This server prohibits posting Child Sexual Abuse Materials (CSAM). Images are actively scanned. Their mathematical hashes are compared to the hashes of known CSAM images in the NCMEC.ORG database. Any matches are automatically reported, and the image is blocked. Nobody, nor any software, looks at the actual images, it's just a mathematical calculation on the bits.

While I do not believe anyone on this server posts CSAM material, since we relay with over 1,500 other servers, it is necessary to scan the images the server is exposed to.

  1. No racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, threats, doxing, trolling, misogyny, or ageism. No attacks on someone's religion, culture, language, or country of origin. Don't be insulting and argumentative. To be here, you must be nice to people.
  2. No spreading misinformation
  3. Do not spam or create spam accounts
  4. No impersonating people or brands. If doing so as satire, it must be clearly labeled as such.
  5. Do not post copyrighted materials
  6. No ads without permission
  7. NO CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE POSTINGS (CSAM)!
  8. Posting nude photos, controversial pictures, and NSFW (Not Safe For Work) posts without content warnings and appropriate hashtags is not allowed. NSFL (Not Safe For Life) posts are not allowed.
  9. Targeted misgendering, deadnaming, or promotion of so-called "conversion therapy" is prohibited.
  10. Content created by others must be attributed, and use of AI must be disclosed. Profiles that only post AI-generated content will be suspended
  11. You must be at least 16-years-old to open an account here
  12. No trolling. Trolls add nothing but annoying noise to a conversation.
  13. No self-expiring email addresses
  14. Do not use inappropriate hashtags to unfairly extend the reach of posts. This results in account suspension.

Instance rules
  1. Hate speech and discrimination, such as, but not limited to, racism, xenophobia, homophobia, transphobia and abelism and content illegal in Europe is not allowed in any form.
  2. Content warnings (CWs) are often either required or highly encouraged to keep our server safe and friendly for as many people as possible. CW-ing nudity, lewdness, politics, gore and spam-like posts are all mandatory. Failure to comply will result in account limiting.
  3. Bios (account biographies) should be kept "safe for work". Highly distracting, lewd or otherwise obscene avatar or header images are not allowed.
  4. Malicious or misleading information (such as, but not limited to, anti-science, fake news and hate brigading) are bannable offences. This also includes the encouragement and normalising of said information. Such content can, for example, include anti-vaccine and alternative medicine.
  5. Extreme political content, such as Nazism, authoritarianism, "tankieism", and extreme nationalism is a bannable offence. An exception to this are news stories and meta around these topics.
  6. Incitement of violence, regardless of the situation, is generally not allowed and appropriate content warnings is required as a minimum! We also realise that there is a difference between punching up vs. down, and that violence is sometimes unavoidable, such as protests.
  7. Advertising is discouraged and is allowed at the discretion of moderators. Commissions related to the arts, charitable causes (that are demonstrably not for-profit) and personal donation requests are exempt. A general rule is that if you think that it would be annoying, put it behind a CW.
  8. We do not allow any bots or automated services including crossposters from other social media sites. You can have a look at sites like "botsin.space" for that kind of stuff.
  9. Doxing and non-consensual breaches of privacy is not allowed and breaking this rule will most likely result in a ban.
  10. Posting uncaptioned media with public visibility is not allowed and will get your account limited, usually if repeated behaviour is observed. Twootsite is supposed to be an inclusive and accessible place. Only local posts are affected by this rule, not remote posts or boosts.
