Art by our very own
@MonchiPlease review the rules before making an account and posting! Also please read the Policy page at https://rodent.life/privacy-policy if you are thinking about applying. Our timelines are public, so you don't need a login to view. This instance is largely English-speaking with federation to English and Japanese speaking instances. Registration is currently invite-only.
About rodent.liferodent.life (informally abbreviated RoLi) is a furry Fediverse community running on Mastodon. As a furry community there is an appreciation for art and artists and we do what we can to support them and provide a space to openly create and network. There may be posts in our timelines from LGBTQIA+ focused instances and from tech industry focused instances where some of our interests overlap. But this is primarily a space for furries.
In order to maintain an inclusive and welcoming space, we do have to set some ground rules. As such, this is
not a “free speech” instance, where anything goes. We choose to federate as openly as possible within the restrictions of the rules and moderation expectations set below.
HashtagsLike other social media platforms, Mastodon makes use of
hashtags. Feel free to tag in English, Japanese, or both. (ex. #rabbit #兎 #うさぎ ) This instance can search either. Please
do use tags though, especially with images. They are used to help people that want to find your content
and to use in
filters for people that do not want to see it.
Content WarningsUnlike other social media platforms, Mastodon makes use of a feature called a Content Warning (CW). This feature effectively acts as a “spoiler” for the content of your post. The only text presented is the set of tags that the poster chooses to describe the content with. This allows you to give your audience the chance to
consent to the content that you are choosing to reveal to them. Some of the rules require the use of Content Warnings, so please familiarize yourself with them. (This instance also has a pretty high character limit, and using a CW with the subject of a longer post should be done to keep the timelines clean.)
To other instance admins and whoever is curious about the moderationUsers here may post media that is not acceptable on other instances (typically artwork, as explicit photography is not allowed). If a post from originating from rodent.life contains explicit media, it is
required to have a CW and be adequately censored. I encourage the use of tags regardless. If you admin/moderate an instance that resides in a location where such imagery is not legal, or have users that may be sensitive to such content, I recommend at a minimum
rejecting media from rodent.life .
If
another instance sends uncensored explicit media, this instance will
reject media from it, regardless of whether or not there is a CW. If users from another instance are filling the Federated timelime with hate speech of any kind, and the Rules of that server disallow it, this instance will
suspend the user (and likely attempt to reach out to the admin of the remote instance). If that happens and the Rules of another server
allow such behaviour, this instance will simply
suspend that instance outright.
If users in another instance are in some way in violation of the other Rules of this server (AI art posted, bot accounts, non-furry accounts, etc.) such users will likely be limited at admin discretion. If this happens a lot, or an instance seems to exist
entirely for a purpose that breaks a Rule here (caters almost exclusively to bots, exists to promote a corporate account/brand), that instance will likely be suspended at admin discretion.
If the admin/moderation team of another instance publicly attempts to cause reputational harm (FediBlock posts, blocklist public messages, etc.) to rodent.life or its administration, it will be grounds for
suspension of the remote instance.
FundingAt this time, this instance is funded by an individual. It does not cost enough to justify asking for more. I would encourage spending that money within the community, possibly helping out a lesser-known artist that needs it more than I do.
