Welcome to SEO.chat An open source, social network based on Mastodon, and focused on SEO. Managed by
@fili@seo.chat.
This Mastodon server was created and set up for the SEO community to have a place to come together, share knowledge and test things out. Its primary service is to provide a platform for the Search Engine Optimization community.
The primary instance language is English.
Best efforts are made to keep the server up and running, but sometimes things may be outside the admin's control, such as the managed hosting provider experiencing downtime, or
Google inadvertently mistaking the server for phishing.
Code of Conduct SEO.chat aims to be a nice community of marketers, sharing and helping each other. You are welcome to join!
Basic rules:
- Be polite and kind. Don't be a jerk. Religious speech, hate speech, discrimination, and harassment of any kind is not tolerated on this server.
- Be respectful - even if you disagree.
- No spam or commercial advertisements.
- This server is intended for anyone who works in the field of Search Engine Optimization.
- The primary language for this server is English. Although it is fine to discuss SEO examples/cases/details related to different markets, languages and locales, make sure that the primary language of your posts are in English.
And everything will be fine.
When applying to join When you sign up to join, you will be asked to provide an answer to
"Why do you want to join?". Take a moment to write down your response. If your response is unrelated to SEO and is lacking the requested information, your application to join will likely be rejected.

Best practices The list below is a collection of behavior expected from SEO.chat users. If you see a user go against these best practices in a way that bothers you, please file a report and the moderators will talk to them. While these best practices are designed to be guidelines for a good communal instance,
repeated malicious unwillingness to follow the best practices will be considered just like breaking a rule.
- In general, use the tools provided to foster a considerate and accessible atmosphere. This includes the liberal use of content warnings (especially on potentially disturbing or controversial topics), and alt-text captioning of media files.
- When possible, provide credit for creative works in your posts that are not your own.
- Uninvited comments about another user's personal choices, lifestyle or family are strongly discouraged and may be considered harassment. Inappropriate sexual attention, comments about appearance and implication of physical contact will not be tolerated toward any non-consenting user.
- If you post potentially graphical content or gore, use content warnings.
- If you post any advertisements, use a content warning. Advertisements should not be excessive or automated.
- Bots may only interact with a user when they're invited by that user to do so.
- Automated posts and high-frequency posts should be unlisted (rendering visible to everybody, but not appearing on the local timeline) to keep the local timeline of SEO.chat instance a place of community dialogue and human interaction. This extends to bots, feed posters, Twitter "retweets" and Twitter crossposts with broken mentions ("…@twitter.com"). Crossposter accounts that stop being active participants in SEO.chat community may be removed at the discretion of the moderators.
- In discussions, please remain civil, do not insult the people you're talking to. Note that irony, sarcasm, or similar modes of language don't translate well to written language and tend to escalate discussions or misunderstandings.
- Do not debate moderation actions in public posts. If you disagree with how a moderator enforced the rules you may direct-message the moderation team.
(These best practices were inspired by the Terms of bsd.network and chaos.social. Thank you!)Content not allowed The following rules are a (non-exhaustive) list of behaviors and type of content that may lead to deletion of toots, silencing or suspension of accounts, at the discretion of the instance administrators, as described in the SEO.chat

The admin (
@fili) is maintaining this SEO.chat instance in his spare time, finances, hardware and nerves. Please don't push any of those.
Reporting Violations Please report behavior that bothers you. The moderators will keep your report confidential. Accounts found to be breaking the rules will be banned without a warning.
If you notice a post that violates the rules, please report it. It is easy to assume that someone else has already reported a post, but it is easy for everyone to feel that way and no one to report the post. If you feel personally uncomfortable with the kind of attention you’re receiving, please reach out to the moderation team.
The moderation team will always take a pragmatic approach to every report they receive - if a problematic post isn’t explicitly called out above, yet is inappropriate for SEO.chat (not related to SEO), the post will likely be removed, and the member will be dealt with appropriately.
