Our code of conduct is pretty simple: don't be a dick.
Of course that means a bunch of different things to different people, so we may have to work out more specific rules. But really that's only necessary if one of us acts like a dick, right? So let's not do that.
#FediBlock is a source of blocks. In general, we will block instances that have overwhelming content in one of the following categories, or moderation rules that permit it:
- fascists or nazis
- CSAM, pedophilia, lolicon
- homophobia, transphobia, racism; hate speech in general
- misinformation, conspiracy theories
- doxxing
- trolling
- spam
- cryptocurrencies
- "free" speech as a tool to push any of the above, or excuse for letting it happen (also: freezepeach)
Typically, this results in suspension (defederation, blocking). This is a tiny instance, and the mods can be quite decisive here.
We show blocked instances. If you find your instance there and consider this unjust, reach out - mistakes do happen.
Spam: nothing is wrong with advertising your own hard work. But doing so depends a little on style. Clickbaity LinkedIn-style self-promotion may get accounts limited, but not instances blocked. Other kinds of self-promotion are not considered spam. Ultimately, this is a judgement call, and depends on how folk present themselves overall.
Federation: instances may get suspended if they freely federate with other instances that are or would be suspended. Experience shows that such instances tend to quickly fall into the same category.
We've signed the #FediPact and will not federate with Meta, or any other GAFAM instance.
Journalism: journalism itself will not get blocked. However, some journalist instances run afoul of the above, and thus do get blocked.
