This search engine for Mastodon instances is based on a database that gets updated by our crawler every night (CET). Instances are considered new for 30 days after they are discovered. When an instance has not responded to our daily checks for more than 30 days it’s no longer considered in statistics and searches and it gets checked only on the first of the month, rather than daily, until it possibly responds again. “Random ordering” of results varies daily.
Default search criteria reflect our fondness for a decentralized and egalitarian Fediverse and our attempt to exclude instances accepting fascist, racist, sexist, ableist or sovereignist contents by marking them as noxious.
We currently count 11,818 Mastodon instances, with 8,694,703 users (1,408,956 active during last month) and 888,367,653 published statuses. [Show Threads moderation statistics]
These statistics on the status of Threads moderation are based on the list of moderated instances, which is accessible only on some instances, and on the list of instances adhering to the Anti-Meta Fedi Pact.

About FLOSS.social
FLOSS.social was launched on 1 April 2018 as a Mastodon server for people who care about, support, or build Free, Libre, and Open Source Software (FLOSS). Of course, our community discussions aren't limited to just FLOSS. We encourage everyone here to share their unique interests!
Posting in English is recommended, for maximum conversation opportunities within the FLOSS community, but it is not required. However, you will need to understand English in order to agree to our Community Code of Conduct.
This service was installed and is maintained in part by Masto.Host with equipment located at OVH, object storage provided by BunnyCDN, and outbound email via SparkPost.
Please contact @admin@floss.social with any moderation or administrative concerns. Additional information about reporting concerns related to the Community Code of Conduct can be found below.

FLOSS.social Inactive Account Policy
In an effort to free up a wide range of account names, FLOSS.social has a policy to delete inactive accounts and associated personal data. An account is considered inactive when (a) no posts have been made on the account and it has been at least twelve (12) months since the account was last accessed, or (b) it has been at least twenty-four (24) months since the account was last accessed. For purposes of this policy, "accessed" means you have interacted with your account through one or more signed-in session from any device. In order to warn the users concerned, an email will be sent to the e-mail address on file for the account providing the user twenty-one (21) days to reply and request an appeal for the account to be restored. Once an account has been deleted and the warning period has passed, it can no longer be recovered. To use FLOSS.social again, you'll need to create a new account.

EFDN Rules
* Being a Dick is defined as doing, supporting, dogwhistling.etc any one or more of the following: Racism, Sexism, Transphobia, Homophobia, Islamophobia, Classism, Ableism, Kinphobia, Pluralphobia or other forms of discrimination not listed here (i.e. this list is not exhaustive)
(And no, punching up isn't Being A Dick. Saying mean things about white people isn't Being A Dick.)
Inactivity Policy
Accounts which have not been logged into for a month or longer are eligible for suspension. At the 30 day mark, an email will be sent out asking if you wish to keep the account. If you do not reply within another 30 days, or reply that you do not wish to keep the account, the account will be suspended, to keep the user count of the server accurate. The suspension can be undone at any time, and email requests for undoing an account's suspension can be sent to admin@efdn.club or norikawa@efdn.club
Archival Policy
EFDN explicitly does not allow any archival of any user's account, posts or other data without the explicit consent of the user(s) being archived. This means that EFDN, as a whole, "opts out" to any archival, scraping or other data collection schemes, except for those users who specifically note otherwise. Essentially, if you don't see a note in someone's profile, they're opted out.
