Rules of the sandbox

The rules here are pretty simple:

1. You must be 18+ to use this service. No exceptions.
2. Don't post content which is illegal to host in the U.S.
3. NSFW content (including lewd or otherwise sensitive material) is permitted, so long as it is marked as sensitive and is accompanied by a content warning.
4. Be respectful of the space and of other users (don't be a dick, no racism, transphobia, etc.).
5. No excessive self-promotion.

Getting started

If you've used Mastodon before, feel free to skip this section! Otherwise, here's a brief introduction.

Each instance of Mastodon is home to a community with its own rules and style, but interactions between users (in the form of posts) take place in the broader federated ecosystem. When other accounts make posts, you can see them appear on three different timelines:

• Home: accounts you follow
• Local: accounts on your instance
• Federated: accounts on instances connected to yours

Following accounts on other instances forms connections to those instances. You're the algorithm that curates your Mastodon experience. So please feel free to follow some accounts you like and enjoy posting!

If you want to kickstart finding some users to follow, check out sites like Fedi.Directory or Trunk, which keep track of interesting users in a variety of categories.
