Welcome to The Company of Biologists' server on Mastodon. This is a space for biologists to discuss science, research, teaching, life, and more. We would like to build a community and support communication between biologists. This doesn't always involve scientific discussion, so feel free to go off-topic and have fun.

Who's behind this?

The server is hosted by The Company of Biologists. We are a not-for-profit publishing organisation dedicated to supporting and inspiring the biological community. In addition to publishing five peer-reviewed journals — Development, Journal of Cell Science, Journal of Experimental Biology, Disease Models & Mechanism and Biology Open — we host a number of community sites that help people connect and share resources. We have a keen interest in supporting early-career researchers and promoting sustainability in science.

The Company of Biologists operates this instance in support of the biological community, with a particular focus on developmental biology, cell biology, microscopy, and comparative physiology. The instance is intended primarily for those working in, or with a keen interest in, biology and related fields.

Be excellent to each other and respect the rules. Keep in mind that our server's aim is community building and sharing of information, ideas, and interests in respect of each other. The following guidelines are not a legal document, and the final interpretation is up to the server’s administrators; they are here to provide you with an insight into our content moderation policies. The following types of content are not allowed: any content and activity that is illegal in the UK or the EU; nudity, pornography, and sexually explicit content, including artistic depictions; hate speech, racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, fatmisia, xenophobia and/or violent nationalism, or the advocation of all of the above; threats of physical violence against any person, animal, or institution; gore and graphic violence; spam (no flooding the public timeline with excessive automated posts); uncurated bots posting from third-party sources, e.g. news.

Also, any conduct intended to stalk or harass other users, impede other users from utilising the service, degrade the performance of the service, harass other users, or incite other users to perform any of the actions above, is disallowed.
