Welcome to community.goodcommons.world

community.goodcommons.world is an invite-only Mastodon space for community builders, hosted by Good Commons. It exists to support thoughtful conversation, shared learning, and connection among people working to build meaningful alternatives to Big Tech—online, offline, and in hybrid spaces.

📘 Official Code of Conduct (read-only)

💬 Community Draft (suggestions welcome):

We encourage feedback and suggestions through the community draft, while the official version is the one enforced by moderators.

Quick Guidelines

  • This is an invite-only server, though some posts may be visible beyond the community due to federation.
  • Be respectful, empathetic, and constructive.
  • Harassment, discrimination, or inappropriate content are not tolerated.
  • Protect privacy—do not share sensitive or personal information.
  • Moderators may remove content or accounts that violate these guidelines.

Purpose

Good Commons is a collective for community builders run by IMS (Denmark), JamiiAfrica (Tanzania), and Splice (Singapore). We welcome people working proactively to strengthen public-interest, community-led digital and social infrastructure

The server is an experiment in shared conversation: a place to stay connected, exchange practical experiences, and reflect together as we build alternatives that serve communities rather than extract from them.

This space is:

  • Non-commercial
  • Invite-only (for Good Commons community members)
  • Professional, thoughtful, and friendly
  • Designed for reflective learning—not public broadcasting

All participation should contribute to community wellbeing, safety, and mutual respect.

Community Standards

Positive Participation

We welcome contributions that:

  • Share learnings, insights, or reflections from your work
  • Ask for help, feedback, or diverse perspectives
  • Celebrate achievements and progress
  • Support colleagues working in complex or challenging environments
  • Encourage listening, empathy, and constructive dialogue

Unacceptable Behaviour

The following is not permitted:

  • Sexualised language, imagery, or content
  • Harassment, intimidation, or repeated unwanted contact
  • Insults, trolling, or hostile behaviour
  • Personal attacks or inflammatory political statements
  • Sharing private or sensitive information without consent
  • Discriminatory, exclusionary, or demeaning remarks
  • Any behaviour inappropriate in a professional or partnership-based setting

Moderation Approach

Moderation exists to support a respectful and healthy environment—not to police disagreement. Moderators may:

  • Issue warnings
  • Request edits or removal of content
  • Remove posts that violate the Code of Conduct
  • Temporarily suspend accounts
  • Permanently remove accounts in cases of serious or repeated violations

Moderators respond to reports but do not proactively review every post.

Reporting Concerns

If you experience or observe behaviour that violates this Code of Conduct, please use Mastodon’s built-in reporting tools or email letsbuild@goodcommons.world.

Eligibility & Access

Access is by invitation, and can be withdrawn if moderators consider it is no longer appropriate.

Governance

This server is maintained by the Good Commons Moderator Team. New moderators may be invited or may request to join. In cases of sustained conflict or systemic issues, Good Commons leadership may review and adjust moderation structures. In rare circumstances, the server may be closed with advance notice to users.

Attribution

This Code of Conduct is adapted from the Code of Conduct for social.itu.dk Mastodon server, which is adapted from the Contributor Covenant, version 1.4.
