The corporate internet is rife with censorship and subject to the stifling laws surrounding porn and fiction that many English-speaking (Canada, Australia, the UK) countries have. Even if that is not the case, they still often end up bending the knee to anti-porn advertisers and investors. The fact that Twitter is even able to allow porn at all is a miracle.

The solution to this is, of course, decentralized social media run by individuals who do not have profit at the forefront of their minds.

HOW I MODERATE

If something is very clearly against our rules, it will be taken down and you will be contacted with an explanation.

If something might be against our rules but I'm not sure, I may delete posts or hide the account preemptively. I will apologize and allow it to be repost it if I decide it's not bad.

If there is some kind of site-wide drama occurring, I may remove posts and temporarily limit accounts causing too much trouble about it.

I want to suspend on-site users very sparingly. I reserve suspensions for people who constantly break our rules or who may be a danger to other users.

OUR RULES

Legal adults over the age of 18 only.

If you are not over the age of 18 and/or are not a legal adult in your jurisdiction, you are not allowed to join or interact with Serpent.Skin. This is not a "wink wink nudge nudge" rule, if you lie about your age you will get suspended. We do not welcome children.

Use content warnings. This applies to sexual, kinky, violent, taboo*, or otherwise upsetting subjects. "NSFW" "Age Gap" and "Nudity" are not detailed enough warnings. Cub porn must be specifically labeled as "cub" or "underage furry," and furry porn must also be marked as furry/feral.

Sexual furry stuff has to be warned for properly because of our host's TOS. My hands are tied on this.

Do not target or harass individual users or specific groups for any reason.

Too often does this end up causing unnecessary public drama. This is a place to share stories and artwork, or just talk about your day. It is not for arguing and causing problems for everyone else.

Do not publicly complain about actions taken against you or other users by Serpent.Skin moderation.

Replying to a staff post with feedback is fine and welcomed. Posting to the public timeline that your friend got suspended and you are upset is not.

Symbols*** and self-identifiers relating to real-life attraction to children and animals are not permitted anywhere on the site. Debating/arguing/discoursing about this subject is not permitted either.

This is partially because we are not equipped to handle these discussions and partially because we are not sure if our host will allow them. I understand this will make some people feel stifled but please remember we are a community whose purpose first and foremost is for sharing creations, not discourse.

Obey the law. Netherlands and United States law specifically.

No 3DCG involving realistic human or extremely humanoid minors, fictional or otherwise. The legal status of this is questionable at best and I am not in a position to want to take this kind of risk.

This does also mean that we do not allow Nazi imagery even in a fictional context. Of course, real Nazis aren't allowed either. I understand that Nazi porn has a history but I would like our site to stay up. Specific examples of things we WILL take down are red armbands, swastikas, the SS symbol, and the eagle symbol. We won't be too aggressive about uniforms, but be aware that if something is borderline we might take it down. If we do, we won't hold it against you unless you repost it.

We are a queer-friendly anti-censorship instance. If your beliefs go against this, you are not welcome here. Please also remember that being uncomfortable with something ≠ being against its existence in fiction.

We are not a pro-AI community and would prefer if you took it elsewhere, but I know if I forbid it entirely people will just post it untagged anyway. If you use AI-generated images in your profile, please add a disclaimer to your bio.

*Taboo refers here to things that would be dangerous, illegal, or harmful in real life, such as incest, adult/minor, use of illicit drugs (so cannabis, tobacco, & alcohol are all fine without a warning), et cetera. If the post is otherwise benign you still have to warn for it.
