I was a somewhat active user of Twitter from December 2008 until January 2023, but ultimately found that I was unable to fully enjoy the experience. Despite this, it is likely that I will continue to have some level of engagement on the platform.

It is true that Mastodon can be likened to a modern iteration of IRC (Internet Relay Chat), as it utilizes a distributed network of servers that employ hub-and-spoke architecture to facilitate communication among clients. The ability to implement per-server moderation (such as banning) is a feature inherent in the architecture of IRC, and channel-level moderation can be managed by individual channel owners. In the case of Mastodon, while the platform does not have a specific channel-level moderation configuration, the administrator of a particular instance (referred to as the "site runner") has the capability to delegate moderation responsibilities to trusted users.
