A virtual home in the Fediverse for members of the AWCCA community at George Brown College in Tkaronto. This is a student-run instance, unaffiliated with GBC and the AWCCA program.
Long description

This is a virtual home in the Fediverse for members of the AWCCA community at George Brown College in Tkaronto. The AWCCA program provides students with a feminist, anti-racist analysis of the political and counselling issues related to gender-based violence.

This is a student-run instance, unendorsed by GBC and the AWCCA program.

Encouraged uses of social.awcca.community:

  • Share lived experiences and ideas.
  • Support each other in the AWCCA program.
  • Share links, assignment due dates, and other relevant program info.
  • Collaborate and collectively organize.
  • Actively fight oppression in the Fediverse.
  • Have fun, be creative, and spread joy!

Content Warnings (CWs)

Give readers the choice to consent to the following types of content: - rants, - selfies and eye contact, - partisan current events and politics, - mentions of death or violence, - spoilers of popular TV shows and movies, - ASCII art (this is crucial for screen-reader accessibility), - anything else where another person might want to decide for themselves whether they consume your post's content.

Community Standards

  1. Respect the George Brown College Code of Student Behaviour and Conduct.
  2. Uphold and actively promote the AWCCA program's values of anti-racism, anti-ableism, anti-oppression, and transformative justice. It should go without saying that racism, ableism, and otherwise oppressive online behavior are antithetical to these values.
  3. Actively promote accessibility in the Fediverse. This includes but is not limited to the mandatory use of ALT text on all images and videos, accessible hashtag use, and conscientious use of emojis.
  4. Don't weaponize community standards or policies against marginalized groups. Attempts to re-centre discussions of oppression and marginalization around the feelings of the privileged will be interpreted as manipulative behaviour undertaken deliberately in bad faith (rule created by scholar.social).
  5. Be intentional about how you engage with the Fediverse. Recognize that this place has its own unique history and cultural norms. Make an effort to learn accessibility-minded standards like the inclusion of content warnings on photos with eye contact, among other things.
  6. Centre the fundamental contributions made by trans, queer, racialized, disabled, and neurodivergent people to the ActivityPub protocol and Fediverse whenever possible.
  7. Learn about the 'Fediblock' community safety initiative, which exists thanks to the organizing efforts of racialized, queer, and disabled women. Specifically, @CaribenxMarciaX@scholar.social & gingerrroot@kitty.town. Demand recognition for their work and defend them from reply guys when necessary.
Instance rules
  1. No harassment of any kind
  2. No racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, able-ism, etc.
  3. No images or video without ALT text on Public privacy setting
  4. No shortened links, e.g. bit.ly, t.ly, goo.gl, ift.tt, lnkd.in, is.gd or t.co (These are malicious because link-shorteners track users without their consent).
