Paktodon.Asia is the online public square for the Global South – a safe 'azad' mastodon server (instance) for ordinary citizens, students, and activists, to share, learn, grow, and collaborate in. Though we are all pakistani, Paktodon.Asia is open to friends from across the world!

Our Origin Story

With the ongoing climate-catastrophes and the implosion of vital social media companies, our team realized that our citizens and activists urgently needed a replacement that was more resilient, trustworthy, and sensitive to our needs and cultures - Paktodon.Asia.

The specific needs of both activists and ordinary citizens are never a priority for social media platforms:

What we see is decided by toxic algorithms devoted to commercial interests; Our security and freedoms are overlooked; Our mental health is never even an afterthought.

We intend to counter these challenges by building a tolerant, empathetic, and safe organic community where agency lies with the user.

This mastodon instance strives to be a space where people can come together, form community and join advocacy, create action for the climate fight and social injustices facing us, learn and grow;

or simply just be themselves!

Why Trust Paktodon?

Paktodon.Asia aims to bring our citizens’ voices online, under the premise of safety and trust.

How?

Simple,

we will vet every account joining our instance, whether they remain anonymous or use their real identity.

We will not keep any private data, but we will make sure that every account is a real genuine person (anonymous users), or are who they say they are (real identity users).

Honesty and trust immensely help improve the quality of online discourse.

If you see a user from Paktodon.Asia you can rest easy – they are a genuine account belonging to that person.

Assuring Safety

Paktodon.Asia pledges to follow the Mastodon 'Server Covenant', in addition to our own moderation 'Server Rules' (see below).

However, safety is always an ongoing task: please help our team by reporting any toots (posts) or behaviours you feel do not belong here.

Thanks to mastodon’s design, our Admins are able to use multiple tools to deal with such issues quickly, and will do so!

The Mastodon Advantages

Decentralized = Federated = OpenSource = Social Media

• Its decentralized servers are all community owned and volunteer run – it can never be bought or controlled.

• It is federated – all mastodon servers can interact, or choose to block others (like violent or extremist servers).

• It is fully open-source like the old internet – it is free from corporate influence, AI or surveillance tech.

• Chronological (instead of AI) feeds with active moderation guarantee a more relaxing experience online. You curate your own feed, and decide what you want to see!

• There are No Annoying Ads!

The Mastodon Apps

Although there are official apps, Paktodon.Asia recommends Tusky for android users, and Metatext for apple users, due to more features and better UI designs.

How to Sign-up?

Once you fill out the sign-up form on Paktodon.Asia and submit it, our team will contact you through our correspondence email (paktodon.asia@gmail.com) with the subject "Manual Verification for Paktodon.Asia" to manually verify you.

After we have confirmed you are not a bot, we will immediately activate your account here.

We do this to keep our users safe from bots, harassers, imposters, and other malicious actors. We understand this might sound a bit tedious, but we firmly believe in preventing issues rather than a 'free-for-all' and 'ignore the problem' approach Twitter, Facebook, and other companies indulge in.

This allows us to guarantee Paktodon.Asia users a standard of safety and privacy unmatched by any mainstream social media platform.

We actively look out for you! O=)

1. No Explicit (NSFW) material
2. No Graphic material without the use of the Sensitive Media marker, and CW (Content Warning) turned on
3. No Advertisements / Brands / Companies / ‘Influencers’ / Corporations (Individual Self-promotion is allowed.)
4. No Targeted Harassment of anyone on this server or in the Fediverse, including (but not limited to) dogpiling, doxxing, threats of violence.
5. No Incitement or Promotion of Violence
6. No Sexism, Racism, Casteism, Homophobia or Transphobia, Islamophobia or Anti-semitism
7. No Impersonation, unless non-malicious and clearly marked as parody
8. No Intentional Misuse of any Server Rule, or Reporting Mechanism.
9. No Misinformation (especially Public Health, Climate, Religious, Ethnic).
