Who are we?

PNW.Zone is a decentralised, free and open alternative to Twitter based on Mastodon. Part of the Fediverse.

This instance is a casual place for those that live in or enjoy the Pacific Northwest (US/Canada). We're chill here, so come join us and share your experiences. This is a general topic instance, but you may find we enjoy #Photography #Nature #Technology and the like.

I'm new to Mastodon and the Fediverse. Who can I talk to on this instance?

If you're coming from Twitter, you may be wondering why you need to "pick" an instance or server. The Mastodon service is hosted by thousands of interconnected servers - rather than being run by one entity. But don't fear, each administrator has connected their instance to all the other instances so everyone can communicate in one big "Fediverse".

If you’re new to Mastodon please consider signing up, we’d love to have you. If you’re on another instance and want to move closer to your home in the Pacific Northwest, sign up and we can assist! We’d encourage you to look over our code of conduct and our server rules first, to make sure our moderating style suites your needs.

Account signups require manual approval to prevent bot and spam accounts. We attempt to review all signups within 24 hours.

1. Excessive commercial advertising or commercial posts not related to the Pacific Northwest
2. Bots: Uncurated bots posting from third-party sources must first obtain approval from administration
3. Nudity, pornography and sexually explicit content, including artistic depictions
4. Untagged gore and extremely graphic violence, including artistic depictions

The following types of content will be removed from the public timeline, and may result in account suspension and revocation of access to the service:

1. Racism or advocation of racism
2. Sexism or advocation of sexism

4. Timeline Flooding: Continuous posting of content or reposting of external content within a short time without intent of engaging in a conversation is not allowed.

Any conduct intended to stalk or harass other users, or to impede other users from utilizing the service, or to degrade the performance of the service, or to harass other users, or to incite other users to perform any of the aforementioned actions, is also disallowed, and subject to punishment up to and including revocation of access to the service. This includes, but is not limited to, the following behaviors:

1. Continuing to engage in conversation with a user that has specifically has requested for said engagement with that user to cease and desist may be considered harassment, regardless of platform-specific privacy tools employed.

Where are we hosted?

We're hosted on AWS in the Oregon region. Media is replicated to caching endpoints around the world. Local laws apply.

1. Have fun and be respectful! Posts on PNW.zone are moderated. We promote robust dialogue from all viewpoints, but want to cultivate a trusted instance for others to join. Therefore we will moderate threats of violence, harassment, harmful disinformation, hate speech, and similar content.
