Long description
techpolicy.social is a privately controlled Mastodon instance intended for use by technology and internet policy professionals. It is currently paid for and run on a volunteer basis by @mchris@techpolicy.social (not wearing any professional / institutional hats); but that may change. The goal of this instance is to share information and discuss ideas, and foster offline collaboration through online engagement. For now, accounts are request/invite-only, screened by Chris; please give some reference link (e.g. another public profile or your bio on an organizational website) to make it easier to gauge fitness for this group, and if you're comfortable with it, including such information in your bio will help others in this instance as well.

Terms of service and moderation rules

techpolicy.social is a Mastodon instance intended for those working in, or adjacent to, technology and internet policy. Inspired by eupolicy.social, its aim is to provide a friendly and respectful discussion space within the Fediverse, and to capture some of the information exchange and serendipitous connection power that other social media services have demonstrated.

To that end, you are expected to use this service for friendly and respectful interaction with others, and to help foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for all users.

techpolicy.social is privately owned and open to users voluntarily; it is not a public space. It is subject to a set of rules governing user behavior. Users wishing to join techpolicy.social are expected to act without malice and in good faith. Doing otherwise may lead to removal from the service, independent of whether a user violates the content moderation rules.

Content published with techpolicy.social must follow the following rules, interpretation and application of which is entirely subject to the administrator(s) of this instance:

  • No racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia, or casteism
  • No incitement to violence or promotion of violent ideologies
  • No harassment, dogpiling or doxxing of other users
  • No intentionally false or misleading information
  • No content that is illegal under United States law (because the server is located there)
  • Sexually explicit or violent media must be marked as sensitive

Accounts who spam the server or are suspected of camping just to reserve an account name are also subject to removal.

Parts of these terms of service have been taken and remixed from eupolicy.social, which in turn references chaos.social for its inspiration. This text is free to be adapted and remixed under the terms of the CC-BY (Attribution 4.0 International) license.
