Mostly amateur radio focused, software engineering, whatever!
FundingThis server is hosted in Princeton, Texas by Verona Networks, a Wireless ISP I (
@graham) own and operate. As part of the ISP I have dedicated fiber with largely unused upstream, perfect for running a server. The physical server (Dell r630) is already running other VMs for various ISP monitoring/administration. In essence it costs exactly $0 to run this instance right now. If it grows I may put up a crowdfunding site for future growth, but as of now it's not needed. This instance is my primary account in the fediverse, so I'm self-motivated to keep it running well.
Although not necessary, if you are inclined to donate to keep the server running,
you may do so here.
ModerationWe take a light-handed approach to moderation. Everyone is different and everyone should be able to express their own feelings. However, that freedom ends at blatant homophobic, trans-phobic, and racial content. This should be a friendly, welcoming community to everyone, so be nice!
We usually handle reports within 24 hours. Please mind that you are not notified when a report you have made has led to a punitive action, and that not all punitive actions are externally visible. For first time offenses, we may opt to delete offending content, escalating to harsher measures on repeat offenses.
BackupsPostgreSQL is backed up nightly to s3, retaining the past 7 dumps on a rolling basis.
AdminsAll of the admins/moderators are software engineering/ops/devops/nerd veterans and have decades of experience in the field. This isn't our first rodeo. Yes, we can read all of your direct messages if we wanted, but honestly we have much better things to do, and value your privacy.
