Who is John Mastodon?

John Mastodon was born in 1843 in what was then the Minnesota Territory. In 1862, he moved to Chicago and opened a small dry goods shop. In 1867, he invented an early prototype of the fediverse using nothing more than scraps of silk (left over from the manufacture of stockings), porcelain spindles, lengths of copper wire, and a toothpick. In 1869, John Mastodon sold his invention to Alphons Krizek of Philadelphia who pivetted the product and only marketed the toothpick.

Is the above answer about John Mastodon true?

No.

What is the goal of Toot Works?

Toot Works is dedicated to providing a harassment-free experience for everyone. We do not tolerate harassment of participants in any form. We intend to remain a small instance. Our administrator and financial patron stands by the goal of not allowing more than 100 active users on the service. Any more than that risks being both a financial and logistical problem. It also risks running contrary to Mastodon's goal of being a decentralized network.

How much does it cost to host Toot Works?

As of February 2023, we are paying $19/month for Mastohost's Star Plan and $30/year for the domain name. Our patron also contributes $2/mo towards the Mastodon development team.

I am a resident of the state of Louisiana. Can I use Toot Works?

As of January 2023, Louisiana residents are not allowed to use Toot Works due to Louisiana Act No. 440. The law says that porn sites will have to determine whether a viewer is 18 or over or be at risk of possible lawsuits by the state and that websites with content containing at least 33.3% pornographic material are porn sites. We don't have the resources to measure how much porn exists on the fediverse or manually verify the age of Toot Works users.

Has Toot Works ever been contacted by the FBI?

No.

Has Toot Works ever recieved a National Security Letter, FISA order, or any other classified request for user information?

No.

Those past two questions were weird. What is a Warrant Canary?

A warrant canary is a colloquial term for a regularly published statement that a service provider has not received legal process that it would be prohibited from saying it had received. Once a service provider does receive legal process, the speech prohibition goes into place, and the canary statement is removed.
