What is saptodon?

saptodon is a Mastodon server. As such it is connected to the entire Fediverse. Read this blog post I've written some time ago for more information on Fediverse.

Why saptodon?

When Twitter was eventually aquired by Elon Musk I decided to leave Twitter totally. So I tweeted a good bye message to Elon Musk and my followers. In this message I announced that I will be reachable at Mastodon for those who want to stay in contact with me.

Soon after this tweet I was asked by @mianbsp@fosstodon.org if it wouldn't make sense to run a server for the @SAP community. I thoght this was a good idea. So I registered a domain and ordered a Mastodon server from the provider Weingärtner IT Services.

But there are already so many @SAP communities on the internet. Why did you create another one?

All the other communities are great and we don't want to replace even one of them. This is just another one for people who like the Fediverse and it's advantages. See my above mentioned blog for details

The aim of saptodon

With this server I want to start a community for all people who are interested in @SAP technology.

Said this it should be clear that people who don't know what SAP stands for, SAP customers who are only end users of SAP software or SAP recruiters should try to find another Mastodon instance that better suits their interests. SAP customers who are end users of SAP software but are responsible business decision makers and want to get informed or talk about technical aspects are of course welcome.

Why do I have to tell you why I want to register?

We want to build a community for @SAP technology interested people. By telling us which relation you have to @SAP and/or @SAP technology we can and will decide if you are given an account. Sorry for this but read the below section for an explanation

Why do I need to wait for approval of my registration?

We manually check your registration. This may take some time cause we run this server in our free time. The rest of the time we work for our employers / customers.

There are several reasons for this

• We want to make sure that only people who are interested in @SAP technology can register.
• We run a small server with limited server resources. To not run into unavailability too often we would like to restrict the number of users.
• We want to make sure that no recruiters or bots register for an account.
• We are new to Mastodon hosting and hence want to get some experience first before we open up for the entire internet.

This requirement might change in the future. So stay tuned if you are not fine with it. In that case in the meantime you can of course create a Mastodon account at any other Mastodon instance without this restriction and follow the members of this server from there.

Where are our servers located?

The technical hosting of this server is done by Weingärtner IT Services. This hoster is located in Germany and all it's servers are located in Germany too.

Who are we?

Currently "we" is just me, the admin and owner of this server @saptodonadm@saptodon.org.

But I think in near future we will get some additional moderators will help us to maintain this server. If you want to support send us a message.

1. Do not use slurs or racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, ableist or otherwise discriminatory or hateful jokes or language or promote white supremacy, anti-Semitism, transphobia or other hateful ideologies.

5. Do not use automated tools to toot without participating in the community. It is fine to post with an automated tool so long as you are an active member of the saptodon community and respond to replies you receive here. Unmonitored accounts that post automatically are not acceptable.
6. Do not debate moderation actions in public toots. If you disagree with how a moderator enforced this CoC you may direct-message the moderation team or email h.tammen@tammen-it-solutions.de
7. Toot in English, please. This makes moderation easier and it helps everyone on this server to follow the discussions. If you toot from your saptodon account to someone at another server in another language than english that's of course ok.
8. Do not post spam. Toots that are nothing other than a link and/or contain an inordinate number of hashtags are spam, as does any overly commercial self-promotion. (It is fine to toot about your own projects and share what you are excited to be working on — just keep the toot itself interesting).
9. Do not post about inflammatory, controversial subjects without a Content Warning.
10. Do not “shitpost” - while humorous posts are allowed, and actually encouraged, there is no place for “shitposting” on saptodon.
11. Do not engage in name calling, ad hominem attacks, or any other uncivil behaviour; criticize ideas, never people.
12. Do not tone police. Toots may violate the standards of civility we set on saptodon, but you should not criticize users for their tone. Report them or feel free to block them. In neither case should you criticize their tone.
13. Abide by the law. Very simple. You can also be reported on the internet.
14. If you want to create a NSFW-only account, you may want to consider another instance. We are probably not suitable for you.
15. We do not tolerate violent nationalist propaganda, Nazi symbolism or the promotion of the ideology of National Socialism.
16. Recruiter? This is probably not your space If you are a recruiter or work for recruiter this may not be your mastodon instance. If you place project requests here we will suspend your account. You can of course discuss SAP issues with us.
