• Diese Instanz bietet Podcaster*innen einen Platz für ihre Sendungen im Mastodon-Netzwerk. Die Instanz ist ausdrücklich nicht für persönliche Accounts gedacht, sondern nur für solche, die eine einzelne Sendung repräsentieren. Momentan ist die Registrierung geschlossen.
• Im größten Fall entwickelt sich hier ein Verzeichnis, das einen Überblick über die Podcastwelt im Fediverse bietet. Im kleinsten ist das einfach eine weitere Instanz, auf der die Podcaster*innen, die das möchten, ihre Sendungsaccounts pflegen können.
• Zumindest vorerst bitte wirklich nur für Podcasts Accounts erstellen, die auch euch gehören!
• Und: Die Seite ist - im Sinne des Föderalismus - vor allem für die Podcaster*innen gedacht, die aktuell den Betrieb einer eigenen Instanz NICHT leisten können. Große Institutionen und Verlage möchten wir freundlich darauf hinweisen, dass eine eigene Instanz der grundlegenden Idee des Fediverse zuträglicher wäre, als hier einen Account zu eröffnen.
• Falls ihr ganz neu bei Mastodon seid und euch die Konzepte des Fediverse nicht geläufig sind, gibt es am Ende dieser Seite eine kleine Hilfestellung.

FAQ & Hinweise

Ich möchte hier auch einen Account, geht das?
Man kann die Registrierung ausfüllen und sich damit um einen Account bewerben. Das Moderations-Team schaut sich zeitnah an, ob euer Account alle Bedingungen erfüllt und ob die Instanz gerade ausreichend Ressourcen hat und entscheidet dann darüber.

Falls ihr nicht zugelassen werdet, kann das eine Vielzahl von (technischen, organisatorischen oder inhaltlichen) Gründen haben, bitte seht uns nach, dass wir keine ausführlichen Absagen schreiben. Wir verweisen vorsichtshalber auf Punkt 1 der Nutzungsbedingungen. Hinterlegt in der Bewerbung unbedingt einen Link zu eurem Podcast!

Ihr könnt eurer Sache weiter helfen, in dem ihr in eurer Bewerbung kurz beschreibt, wer ihr seid und was ihr für einen Podcast macht. Falls ihr jemanden kennt, der schon einen Account auf dieser Instanz hat, kann dieser Account gerne eine DM an @cvd schicken und für euch bürgen. Podcasts, die nicht ausschließlich von weißen, alten Männern betrieben werden, werden bevorzugt zugelassen.

Was genau wird von einem Account erwartet?
Vorschrift ist nur, dass euer Account wie euer Podcast heisst. Das heisst bei der Registrierung ist der "Benutzername" der Name eures Podcasts. Als sinnvoll hat sich erwiesen, wenn ihr in eurer Bio nicht nur den Link zu eurer Podcast-Webseite, sondern auch den Link zu dem RSS-Feed eures Podcasts explizit hinterlegt. Für die Bio empfiehlt sich eine Kurzbeschreibung des Podcasts. Juristisch gesehen sollte euer Podcast wahrscheinlich auch ein Link zu einem Impressum enthalten.

Welche Arten von Inhalten erwartet ihr?
Einerseits wollen wir euch das nicht vorschreiben. Andererseits aber ein guter Zeitpunkt in Erinnerung zu rufen, für wen diese Instanz gedacht ist: Für Accounts, die dafür gemacht sind, dass sie von den Hörer*innen eures Podcasts abonniert werden.

Was sind eure offiziellen Kommunikationskanäle?
Wir empfehlen euch den beiden Accounts @cvd (Inhaltliches, Organisatorisches, Moderation) und @engineroom (Infrastruktur, Bugs, Downtimes) zu folgen. Wir empfehlen auch diesen Accounts mit einem Account zu folgen, den ihr regelmäßig lest - das muss nicht unbedingt euer Podcast-Account auf dieser Plattform sein.

Und wie genau bekomme ich jetzt meine Folgen hier in den Account?
Leider gibt es keine uns bekannte gute und komfortable Möglichkeit, das automatisch aus einem RSS-Feed zu befüllen. (Falls ihr eine kennt, sagt uns Bescheid!) Ein erster hilfreicher Schritt ist aber das semiautomatische Tool mastorss von eazy.

Ich habe Folgen-Toots gesehen, die direkt einen Player enthalten, kann ich das auch haben?
Im Prinzip ja, aber wir können da nicht weiterhelfen. Ob der Toot einen Player anzeigt oder nicht, liegt daran auf welcher Plattform ihr euren Podcast hostet. Soweit wir das erkennen können, sind die Toots, die einen Player enthalten alle mit Podlove gehostete Podcasts und haben noch ein extra Social Plugin.

Kann ich einen bestehenden Podcast-Account von einer anderen Instanz hierher umziehen?
Im Prinzip ja, aber das geht nicht komplett. Mastodon erlaubt es einen alten Account auf eine neue Instanz umzuleiten, die Follower*innen dahin zu verschieben und die Folgschaften mitzunehmen. Sämtliche Inhalte gehen aber verloren bzw. verbleiben auf dem alten Account. Wenn das für euch interessant ist, findet ihr hier eine Anleitung. In der Anleitung fehlt, wie man seine Folgschaften per .csv exportiert oder importiert. Falls ihre eine bessere Anleitung kennt, sagt uns gerne Bescheid!

Ich bin Podcast-Hörer*in. Was ist mit mir?
Diese Instanz ist tatsächlich nicht für Hörer*innen-Accounts gedacht, sie ist für Podcast-Accounts gedacht, denen ihr folgen könnt. Die grundlegende Idee ist, dass die Podcaster*innen euch (in ihren Podcasts?) sagen, wo ihr sie findet. Falls ihr nach neuen Podcasts stöbern wollt, könnt ihr hier Accounts entdecken oder hier in aktuellen Posts stöbern.

Warum nehmt ihr denn nicht Castropod oder Funkwhale?
Diese Instanz ist nicht zum förderierten Podcast-Hosting gedacht. Diese Instanz ist für alle gedacht, die ihren Podcast begleitend im Fediverse repräsentieren wollen, ohne ihr bestehendes "normales" Podcast-Setup ändern zu müssen.

Wer pflegt diese Community?

• Die Software, auf der diese Instanz aufbaut, ist open source und wird auf Servern in Fankreich betrieben. Diese Instanz wird von Marcus Richter über masto.host betrieben.

Regeln / Code of Conduct

"Seid vorzüglich zueinander" ist einfacher gesagt als getan und bedeutet für verschiedene Menschen unterschiedliche Dinge. Die folgenden Regeln sind eine (nicht erschöpfende) Liste von Verhaltensweisen, die nach Ermessen der Instanzadministratoren zum Löschen von Toots oder zum Aussetzen von Konten auf dieser Instanz führen können.

Bitte meldet Verhalten, das Euch stört. Wir werden den Bericht vertraulich behandeln.

• Wir tolerieren keine Belästigung, Stalking und Doxxing.
• Wir tolerieren keinen Rassismus, Sexismus, verbalen Missbrauch, Diskriminierung von Geschlecht und sexuellen Minderheiten oder die Unterstützung eines solchen Verhaltens.
• Wir tolerieren keine gewalttätige nationalistische Propaganda, keine Nazi-Symbolik oder die Förderung der Ideologie des Nationalsozialismus.
• Wendet Euch nicht an Accounts, die deutlich gemacht haben, dass sie keinen Kontakt wollen. Dazu gehören auch (Anstiftung und Verabredung zur) massenhaften Interaktion oder Hetze gegen solche Accounts. (Dogpiling/Brigading).
• Beiträge mit nicht jugendfreiem Inhalt müssen markiert werden
• Werbeanzeigen müssen mit dem Hashtag #werbung gekennzeichnet werden und dürfen nicht übermäßig oder automatisiert sein.
• Bots dürfen nur dann mit einem Account interagieren, wenn sie von diesem Benutzer dazu aufgefordert werden.
• Wenn Ihr hier mit hoher Frequenz posten müsst, stellt bitte Eure Beiträge auf nicht gelistet ein, damit die lokale Timeline lesbar bleibt.
• In Diskussionen bitte höflich bleiben, beleidigt keine Leute, mit denen Ihr schreibt. Setzt Ironie, Sarkasmus oder ähnliche Sprachweisen mit Bedacht ein - sie übersetzen oft nicht gut in die geschriebene Sprache und neigen dazu, Diskussionen oder Missverständnisse zu eskalieren.

Erste Schritte

• Mastodon lässt sich im Web-Browser sowohl auf dem Desktop als auch mobil gut nutzen. Es gibt aber auch eine Reihe guter Apps, mit denen man beispielsweise Notifications gesendet bekommt. Die bekanntesten sind hier zu finden: https://joinmastodon.org/apps
• Die grundlegenden Konzepte sind sehr ähnlich zu Twitter. Es gibt aber ein paar markante Unterschiede, die einen zivilisierten Gemeinschaftsdialog fördern sollten. Die Besonderheiten sind hier gut dargestellt: https://blog.joinmastodon.org/2018/07/cage-the-mastodon

• Es ist zugegebenermaßen wahrscheinlich auch so, dass sich diese Instanz nicht als ersten Schritt ins Fediverse anbietet. Die Empfehlung wäre Erfahrungen mit einem (vielleicht temporären?) persönlichen Account zu sammeln und wenn man ein Gefühl für das Fediverse hat, hier einen Account für den eigenen Podcast zu erstellen. Who is this instance for?

• This instance provides podcasters with a space for their shows on the Mastodon network. The instance is explicitly not intended for personal accounts, only for those representing a single show. Registration is currently closed.
• If grown to its largest, this will become a directory that provides an overview of the podcast world in the Fediverse. At its smallest, this is simply another instance where podcasters who wish to do so can maintain their show accounts.
• At least for now, please only create accounts for podcasts that are yours.
• In the spirit of federalism, this site is primarily intended for podcasters who CANNOT afford to run their own instance. We would like to point out to large institutions and publishers that having their own instance would be more conducive to the idea of the Fediverse.
• If you are new to Mastodon and not familiar with the concepts of the Fediverse, please refer to the tips at the bottom of this page.

FAQ & Advice

How do I open an account on here?
You can fill in the registration form to apply for an account. The moderation team will check if you meet all requirements and if our instance has enough available resources before making a decision.

A refusal can be due to a variety of reasons, technical, organizational or content-related. Unfortunately, we cannot provide a detailed reasoning. Please also refer to section 1 of the Terms of Use. Be sure to include a link to your podcast in your application!

You can help our decision by briefly describing in your application who you are and what type of podcast you make. In case you know someone who already has an account on this instance, that person can send a DM to @cvd and vouch for you. Podcasts that aren't run exclusively by old white men will be given priority for approval.

What exactly is expected of an account?
The only requirement is that your account is named like your podcast: When you register, the "user name" is the name of your podcast. It is useful to include in your bio: the link to your podcast website, the RSS feed and a short description of the show. You might also want to link to a legal notice providing the publisher's details.

What types of content do you expect?
On the one hand, we don't want to impose anything. On the other hand, this is a good time to remember who this instance is for: show accounts wanting to interact with listeners.

What are your official communication channels?
We recommend you follow these two accounts: @cvd (content, organization, moderation) and @engineroom (infrastructure, bugs, downtime). We recommend you follow these accounts from an account you read regularly (it doesn't have to be your podcast account on this instance).

So how exactly do I get my episodes into an account here?
Unfortunately, we know of no good and convenient way to automatically populate it from an RSS feed. (If you do, let us know!) But a first helpful step is the semi-automatic tool mastorss provided by eazy.

I've seen episode toots that include a player, can I have that too?
Basically yes, but we can't help there. Whether a toot shows a player or not depends on the platform you host your podcast on. As far as we can tell, toots show a player when the podcast is hosted by Podlove and uses an additional social plugin

Can I migrate an existing podcast account from another instance?
Essentially yes, but there are some limitations. Mastodon allows you to redirect an existing account to a new instance maintaining followers and followings. However, all content will remain on the old account. If you are interested in moving, see here for instructions.

I am a podcast listener. Can I get an account, too?
This instance is actually NOT for listener accounts, but for show accounts that you can follow. The basic idea is that podcasters will tell you where to find them, e.g. on their podcast. If you want to browse for new podcasts, you can discover accounts here or see what our podcasters are posting about right now here.

Why don't you use Castropod or Funkwhale?
This instance is NOT meant for federated podcast hosting. This instance is meant for anyone who wants to represent their podcast in the Fediverse in an accompanying way, without having to change their existing podcast setup.

""Be excellent to each other" is easier said than done, and means different things to different people. The following rules are a (non-exhaustive) list of behaviour that may result in the deletion of toots or suspension of accounts on this instance at the discretion of the administrators

Please report behavior that bothers you. We will keep reports confidential.

• We do not tolerate harassment, stalking, or doxxing.
• We do not tolerate racism, sexism, verbal abuse, gender and sexual minority discrimination, or the support of such behaviour.
• We do not tolerate violent nationalist propaganda, Nazi symbolism, or the promotion of Nazi ideology.
• Do not contact accounts that have made it clear that they do not want to be contacted. This includes (inciting and conspiring to) mass interaction or incitement against such accounts. (Dogpiling/Brigading).
• Posts with adult content must be flagged.
• Paid advertisement must be marked with #advertising and not be excessive or automated.
• Bots may only interact with an account when prompted by that user.
• If you post here with high frequency, please set your posts to unlisted to keep the local timeline readable.
• Please remain polite in discussions, do not insult people you are chatting with. Use irony, sarcasm, or similar language wisely - it often doesn't translate well into written language and tends to escalate discussions or lead to misunderstandings.

First steps

• Mastodon is easy to use in a web browser on both desktop and mobile. However, there are also a number of good apps that can be used to receive notifications, for example. Some of the most popular ones can be found here.
• The basic concepts of Mastodon are very similar to Twitter. However, there are a few striking differences that ought to encourage a civilized community discourse. The specifics are well laid out here.
• Another very good introduction to what Mastodon is and how best to get started is ["A futuristic Mastodon introduction for 2021".
• Admittedly, this instance might not be a good first step into the Fediverse. It's recommended that you gain experience with a (perhaps temporary?) personal account, and once you have a feel for the Fediverse, create an account for your own podcast here.
