This server is meant for anyone working in, affiliated with, or with a general interest in Dutch academia (#AkademieNL).

About AkademieNL

This is a voluntary run, not-for-profit server that is meant for anyone working in, affiliated with, or with a general interest in Dutch academia (#AkademieNL). We welcome anyone working at, or that has worked at one of the Dutch universities, knowledge or research institutions, people working on science policies and funding, science journalists, and anyone with a general interest in Dutch academia.
We offer an inclusive safe haven where academics and likeminded individuals can converse in a constructive manner, while also offering space for digital banter (e.g. memes) and leisure (e.g. pics of cats or dogs, holidays, etc.).

Code of Conduct

First and foremost: follow the above mentioned Server Rules at all times.
Roughly speaking, toots can be divided in to two categories: scientific and non-scientific. Both are subject to the Server Rules, but for scientific toots it is also expected that they uphold scientific standards and do not harm scientific integrity in any way. As such, moderation on scientific toots has a more strict policy.
Being an user on AkademieNL is a privilege, not a right. Moderators and administrators can revoke this privilege if the Server Rules or Code of Conduct are violated.

Privacy & security

All data for the AkademieNL-server are located in France. It uses a TSL (Transport Layer Security) for encryption and by doing so ensuring that the data is safe. Backups are made daily.
For some actions, such as when someone signs up, a notification mail needs to be send to the moderator. This mail is handled securely through a SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) and is directed towards AkademieNL@pm.me. This e-mail is provided by Protonmail where everything is stored fully encrypted as well.
We advise you to further protect your account by enabling 2FA (2-factor authentication).

Migrating to AkademieNL

If you don't have a Mastodon account yet, you can simply make one here and start enjoying the #AkademieNL fediverse. If you already have an account, you will need to migrate it.

Step one

Create a new account through the AkademieNL hompepage.

Step two

Once your new account has been approved, click preferences -> account -> create an account alias (under moving from a different account). Once there fill in your old account. Your old account will be linked as an alias to the new account.

Step three

Once your new account has the old account as an alias, go to your old account and once again click preferences -> account, but now click configure it here (under move to a different account). Once there fill in the handle of your new AkademieNL-account and the password to your old account. Once you click move followers, your old account will be migrated to the new one. This process might take a while, depending on the speed of the old server.

1. No racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia, able-ism, etc.
2. No incitement of violence, promotion of violent ideologies or violent behaviour of any manner.
3. No doxxing, dogpiling or harassment in any form of other users.
4. No spam, bots or advertisements.
5. No media and content which is sexual or violent in nature.
6. No harmful, manipulated, or misleading information (e.g., regarding elections, public health)
7. In order to be able to moderate this server, posts need to either be written in Dutch or English.
