Who are we?
Messy Desk is a fediverse instance for queer and queer-friendly hackers, makers, and artists, spawned from the mastodon.technology diaspora. New members must be invited by an existing member.
We do not federate with any fascist, racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, xenophobic, or casteist instances, or instances tolerant of these views. Please notify an admin or moderator if you see anything of this sort.
Privacy
Do not use this instance for sensitive communications. The current admins and moderators don't care about your private messages and won't read them unless required for moderation. But Mastodon DMs are not encrypted! They exist merely for convenience. Use an encrypted IM provider like Signal for privacy.
You do not have permission to scrape or bulk-download content from this site for any purpose.

We are committed to providing a friendly, safe, and welcoming environment. Treat others with respect, and do not engage in harassment, stalking, trolling, or other antisocial behavior.
Rules
The admins and moderators will usually give warnings for first offenses, but we reserve the right to banish anyone at any time for any reason. Among those reasons are: violation of the code of conduct or policy described above, sexism, discrimination based on physical appearance or beliefs, hate speech, pedaling conspiracy theories, or anything similar.
Graphic violence or sexuality involving minors is forbidden. Other "NSFW" material should be placed behind a CW (content warning). I was the guy behind eggdrop, paramiko, the sidekick ssh client, kestrel, and many smaller projects. I've been in 3 unsuccessful bands and I'm one of the 23 people who finished reading "Gravity's Rainbow". But I'm primarily known for making a dumb Fibonacci joke online in 2011.
