Upkeep CostsIn the interest of transparency, we maintain a list of all upkeep costs for this instance. (All in USD)
Haven PolicyWhile we are primarily an instance for those in the Eugene-Springfield area, we are open as a haven for marginalized people who are facing harassment or other harm in other instances. Just let us know when signing up!
User-Agent BlocksIn addition to the servers listed in the Moderated Servers section, all servers of the type wildebeest are blocked through an
NGINX config option. To do this yourself for your own server, add the linked code in the server block in your NGINX site configuration file. Why is this being done? In-short, wildebeest is a fork of Mastodon designed to run on Cloudflare. Cloudflare CEO Matthew Prince describes himself as a "free-speech absolutist" which is really just a roundabout way of saying that he supports the right for people to use speech to spread rhetoric which causes real-world harm. At Emerald Social, we would rather not let that risk affect our instance, and so have elected to block
all wildebeest instances entirely.
