About We set up
https://guerrill.art as a space for creative minds: a digital community for artists, designers, coders, hackers, activists, and inventors — for socializing, sharing, and learning. Since we are a very small instance, we currently only accept new members who have been recommended to us or who can give us a specific reason why they would like to join (for example through a recommendation or a convincing conversation with us via email or encrypted chat). There are many larger public instances, and due to the nature of the Fediverse, it is always possible to connect!
We intend this service to be used for personal enjoyment and respectful, friendly interaction. To that end, we hope to foster a welcoming and inclusive environment.
Server Specifications This Mastodon server is privately funded, moderated, and hosted by us on our own hardware in Switzerland. Our ISP is SolNet. We want this instance to remain small, secure, and resilient. It currently runs in an isolated Docker stack on an Ubuntu server connected to a UPS, with full-disk encryption (LUKS), automatic security updates, daily database dumps, and off-site backups. The system has been hardened to meet high security standards.
If the instance grows beyond what our current setup can support, we will only move to a VPS solution if it meets our security and privacy requirements, including full-disk encryption and a reliable external backup strategy. Otherwise, we will remain small within the limits of our current setup.
We are maintaining this instance on our spare time, hardware and nerves.
So please be mindful of all three and don't push either of these... You can find more information about our instance and the changes we have implemented in our GitHub repository. Features - 1500-character posts: sometimes 500 characters are just not enough.
- Full-text search: makes it easier to find posts and profiles across the instance.
- Tor access available: the server can also be reached via our Onion address.
- Anonymous signups: in some cases, we can accommodate anonymous registrations for people who are a good fit for the server. If you are interested, please contact us via encrypted email.
Best practices The list below is a collection of behaviour that we expect to see from our users. If you see a user go against these best practices in a way that bothers you, please file a report and we will talk to them. While these best practices are designed to be guidelines for a good communal instance, repeated malicious unwillingness to follow the best practices will be considered just like breaking a rule.
- In general, use the tools provided to foster a considerate and accessible atmosphere. This includes the liberal use of content warnings (especially on potentially disturbing or controversial topics), and alt-text captioning of media files.
- When possible, provide credit for creative works in your posts that are not your own.
- Avoid uninvited comments about another user’s personal choices, lifestyle, family, or appearance. Inappropriate sexualized attention or implied physical contact toward non-consenting users is unacceptable.
- Keep discussions civil. Attack ideas, not people. Irony and sarcasm often escalate conflict in text-based communication.
- Automated or high-frequency posting should be mindful of the local timeline. The local feed is intended for community dialogue and human interaction.
These server rules and best practices were inspired by the terms of chaos.social & bsd.network. Thank you! Cryptobiosis - Cryptobiosis is an amorphic state of life entered by an organism in response to adverse environmental conditions such as dessication, freezing, extreme heat and oxygen deficiency.
- In the cryptobiotic state, all measurable metabilic processes stop, preventing reproduction, development, and repair.
- When environmental conditions return to being hospitable, the organism will return to its metabolic state of life.
