A Mastodon instance for police & public sector users participating in the regular #WeCops events, and who want to be recognised as such. We aim to foster a friendly and respectful discussion space.

Who are we?

This instance is run by WeCops; a not-for-profit and volunteer team that runs regular events (previously called 'chats') to create collaborative spaces that enable the UK policing community to connect, share, and learn from each other and the general public.

WeCops Events

WeCops has been running events since 2015 which until recently ran exclusively on Twitter (X). Late in 2023 LinkedIn was added, and in July 2024 Mastodon was too. Events are open to all.

Each event is focused on a specific topic and will have recognised experts taking part. During an event questions are posed (posted) at pre-defined intervals and then the on-line community (including the experts) discusses the question. In doing so, ideas, lessons, and considerations are shared and discussed.

Participation

To participate users from across the Fediverse simply need to follow the @WeCops account, the #WeCops hashtag, and then join in.

Accounts on this instance

New accounts on our instance are constrained to UK police & public sector users (by email domain). This is to create an effect similar to the original 'blue tick' for users with WeCops accounts. It doesn’t limit who can participate in an event, nor are police & public sector users required to create an account on the WeCops instance – they can, of course, post from other accounts.

1. To register with this instance, you must use a police.uk, police-foundation.uk, or gov.uk email address. Following registration, you can change your email address to anything you wish. The intent is to create an effect similar to the original ‘blue tick’ for users with WeCops accounts.
2. We reserve the right to remove any subscriber at our discretion, without explanation.
3. No incitement of violence or promotion of violent or extremist ideologies.
4. Be respectful. Content that is spam, racist, sexist, hateful or discriminatory is not welcomed.
5. Do not post content that is illegal in the United Kingdom or the European Union.
