A small server run by Mark Smith, a chaplain living in New Jersey, USA. Running for the benefit of its users.

The Smithtodon instance is owned and operated by Mark Smith of NJ who believes in the model that the Mastodon network implements. Mastodon uses small interconnected instances to create a giant interconnected microblogging network free of interstitial advertising and top-down control.

Mark has been on the Internet since 1987 and was on Bulletin Board Systems before that. Mastodon and the Fediverse have the same feel of BBSs, UseNet, and early Twitter.

Currently this site is run free for its users. If growth requires additional expenses we may request donations at some point.

This site was created in early 2023. It's Mark's intention to run the site for a number of years. Per Mastodon policy, at least 90 days notice will be provided to allow users to migrate to another instance.

This instance will be capped when we start to strain the current resources. It will be reopened once we are able.

6. All residents under the age of 18 who reside in Louisiana are prohibited from using this instance, due to State Law. This instance is not verifying age of users. Those who live in Louisiana who create a user ID on this instance state by their action that they are 18 years or older.
