Why is a reason to join required?

Primarily to keep spammers out as they generally avoid requesting to join instances. This requirement also helps prevent abusive people who are likely to break the rules from getting in, as it raises the level of effort required to join.

Do you block Threads or the Bluesky bridge?

The Bluesky bridge is allowed, however Threads is limited because the entire business model at Meta (who own Threads) is built on collecting data, plus Meta have at least historically had questionable ethical practices.

If you do send reports, please give an example of the rule-breaking posts if possible and if the posts are non-English, aim to give some context, simply because people typically understand the language they communicate in better than automated translation tools.

Depending on severity, the posts may be deleted or further action may be taken.

Reports to moderation are responded to as soon as possible, however note that there is no obligation to notify you about the status of your report.
