Newsmast Channels are hand built through a mix of hashtags, follows, filters and mutes.

How to use this server

Follow a Channel account and all this curated content will flow into your timeline. Too much for your home feed? Just create a list to follow a Channel account and exclude that account from your home timeline.

To post to a Newsmast Channel, just add the relevant hashtag to your post, found in the account’s bio.

How we make Newsmast Channels

We use hashtag relays to pull in content from all over the Fediverse. As a first step we work to filter out all NSFW, hate speech and crypto content.

To make each Channel we put together a bunch of the best hashtags related to the topic. Next we search the Fediverse for notable, relevant accounts posting regularly - often they don’t add hashtags. We filter out unrelated posts through Channel specific hashtag and keyword filters. Finally we mute or block accounts which regularly post unrelated, poor quality or spam content to those hashtags.

All of this has been built from scratch by our human team who update and maintain the curated Channels, with the help of the community, keeping the Channels fresh and dynamic.

We don’t use algorithms or AI to drive our Channels and we don’t track where you spend your time. Your data is yours. Simple.

The end result is a simple way to get Fediverse content on the topics that matter to you direct to your lists or Home timeline.

5. Defamation: Do not make false statements about others that unjustly harm their reputation.
6. No hate speech: We don’t allow hate speech or the encouragement of violence for any reason. This includes promotion of so-called 'conversion therapy'.
7. Abuse, harassment and trolling: Do not harass people or encourage harassment or abuse of any kind, including threats, degrading statements and making private details public without permission. Do not post or comment solely to offend or annoy. This includes targeted misgendering and deadnaming.
8. Fraud: Do not attempt to generate traffic or revenue from fake lotteries, sweepstakes, giveaways, phishing links, or spamming. Do not use third-party apps to artificially distort your views, likes and comments.
9. The following content is strictly not allowed. Posting this content will result in your account being deleted and could result in your personal data being handed to relevant authorities in compliance with local laws:
10. Graphic content: No gory or violent material is allowed.
11. Child sexual exploitation: We will not tolerate content which includes or promotes grooming a child for sexual exploitation, sextorting a child, trafficking of a child for sex or otherwise sexually exploiting a child.
12. Child sexual abuse material: We will not tolerate indecent photography or pseudo-photography of a child under the age of 18 or content which simulates CSAM material with adult participants.
13. Encouraging self-harm: Goading people into suicide or self-harm is strictly forbidden.
14. Terrorism: Do not promote terrorism or violent extremism. 
15. Adult content: Adult content, including pornography, is not allowed, nor is non-consensual or underage sexual content.
16. Controlled goods and services: Do not use Newsmast or Channel.org for illegal activities involving illicit goods or services.
17. Illegal activity: Promoting any kind of criminal activity is not allowed, including human exploitation, sex trafficking and the drugs trade.
