Code of Conduct – mastodon.myocci.socialLast Updated: December 5, 2025This Code of Conduct outlines the expectations, responsibilities, and standards for all users of
mastodon.myocci.social, a Mastodon instance operated by the
Old Catholic Churches International (OCCI). Our goal is to foster a safe, compassionate, and respectful digital community that reflects the values of justice, dignity, and empathy.
1. Guiding PrinciplesOur community is built on the following core values:
1.1 Human DignityEvery person is created with inherent worth. All interactions must reflect respect for the dignity of others.
1.2 Compassion and EmpathyUsers are expected to communicate in ways that uplift, support, and care for one another.
1.3 Justice and AccountabilityWe commit to fairness, truthfulness, and responsibility in our actions and speech.
1.4 Community SafetyThe well-being of our community is paramount. Harmful behavior will be addressed promptly.
1.5 InclusivityPeople of all identities, beliefs, backgrounds, and abilities are welcome.
2. Expected BehaviorUsers of this instance must:
- Engage with others respectfully
- Assume good intentions while addressing harm when it occurs
- Use clear and considerate language
- Respect personal boundaries and consent
- Use content warnings (CWs) when appropriate
- Report harmful or abusive content to moderators
- Follow platform rules, Terms of Service, and all applicable laws
3. Unacceptable BehaviorThe following behaviors are not tolerated under any circumstances.
3.1 Harassment and AbuseThis includes, but is not limited to:
- Insults, demeaning language, or targeted harassment
- Threats of harm, intimidation, or coercion
- Continued unwanted communication
- Impersonation of others
- Coordinated attacks on individuals or groups
3.2 Hate Speech and DiscriminationProhibited content includes attacks or demeaning statements targeting:
- Race or ethnicity
- National origin
- Gender identity or expression
- Sexual orientation
- Disability or medical conditions
- Religion, including anti-religious harassment
- Socioeconomic status
3.3 Sexual Content and ExploitationThe following are forbidden:
- Pornographic or sexually explicit media
- Sexual harassment or unwanted sexual attention
- Sexual content involving minors (zero tolerance)
3.4 Violence or IncitementIncluding:
- Graphic or glorified violence
- Threats of physical harm
- Encouragement of self-harm or harm to others
3.5 Privacy ViolationsThis includes:
- Doxxing or revealing personal information without consent
- Sharing private messages without permission
- Non-consensual photography or recordings
3.6 Malicious or Disruptive BehaviorExamples include:
- Spamming or flooding timelines
- Scam or phishing activity
- Malware or harmful scripts
- Circumventing moderation decisions
- Excessive trolling or bad-faith posting
- Coordinating harm across federated servers
4. Faith Context and RespectWhile hosted by a Christian denomination, this platform welcomes all people.
Users must:
4.1 Engage Respectfully in Theological DiscussionsGood-faith dialogue is welcome; attacks on belief or identity are not.
4.2 Avoid Coercive ProselytizingYou may share your beliefs, but you may not:
- Pressure others to convert
- Engage in hostile evangelizing
- Disparage others’ faiths
4.3 Avoid Anti-Religious HarassmentCritique is allowed; harassment or hate is not.
5. Accessibility and InclusionWe encourage and expect practices that support accessibility, including:
- Adding alt-text to images
- Providing descriptive links
- Using content warnings for sensitive material
- Avoiding excessive use of flashing or triggering media
6. Reporting and Moderation6.1 Reporting ViolationsUsers can report content that violates this Code of Conduct using Mastodon’s built-in tools. Reports are reviewed by administrators.
6.2 Moderator ResponsibilitiesModerators will:
- Review reports impartially
- Prioritize community safety
- Communicate decisions when appropriate
- Protect user privacy
6.3 Possible ConsequencesDepending on severity, consequences may include:
- A verbal or written warning
- Content removal
- Temporary account suspension
- Permanent ban
- Defederation from abusive instances
Moderator decisions may be final and are made at their discretion.
7. Federation and External ServersBecause Mastodon is federated:
- Your content may appear on other servers
- Remote servers may have different rules and practices
- We may defederate from servers that promote hate, abuse, or unsafe conduct
Defederation decisions are made to protect users and maintain community health.
8. Safety Expectations for UsersUsers should:
- Use strong passwords and protect account access
- Enable 2-factor authentication if available
- Be cautious when interacting with unknown accounts
- Avoid sharing sensitive personal information publicly
- Report harassment, impersonation, or threats immediately
9. Enforcement PhilosophyWe approach enforcement with:
9.1 CompassionUnderstanding human error and conflict while addressing harm.
9.2 FairnessTreating all users equitably regardless of status, identity, or belief.
9.3 ProportionalityApplying consequences appropriate to the behavior and its impact.
9.4 Restoration When PossibleEncouraging positive change and community repair when appropriate.
10. Changes to This Code of ConductWe may update this Code of Conduct at any time. Users will be notified of significant changes, and continued use of the service constitutes acceptance of the latest version.
