We are building network of neurodiverse individuals and giving a them a safe and inclusive area. You don’t have to be from Australia to join, and you don’t have to be neurodivergent. All are welcome.

Wecome to Australia’s Neurodiverse Community Instance.

This instance is not just for those that are neurodivergent but for any Australian that believes that all people should be treated equally. It can be used for whatever the community feels necessary, as long as the instance’s rules permit it.

**Each person using this instance is required to be able to manage their own triggers, as this is connected to the Fediverse, and other instances do not have to follow our instance’s rules.

This instance currently does not require donations as it’s running costs are being covered by the Admin (@stephen).

   Active moderation against racism, sexism, homophobia and transphobia Users must be confident that they are joining a safe space, free from white supremacy, antisemitism and transphobia of other platforms.

   Daily backups Users must be confident that a trip over the power cable or a rogue bit flip will not erase all of their data. Having a backup strategy is a basic necessity of providing a public service.

   At least one other person with emergency access to the server infrastructure Various circumstances can prevent the original owner of the Mastodon server from answering technical emergencies. For this reason, more than one person must have that capability.

   Commitment to give users at least three months of advance warning in case of shutting down Sometimes services shut down, and it is the cycle of life. But users must be confident that their account will not disappear overnight, so they have time to export their data and find another server.
   
   

Instance Rules

This instance intends to allow the neurodiverse community a safe, inclusive and judgement-free environment to unmask. To allow this to occur, some rules must be followed.

Be Friendly

• The internet was designed to connect computers and the people that use them. Its role is no longer to launch nuclear weapons, but the computers and people idea is still there
• Remember that the other computers you are communicating with are other humans. Their life may be less, the same, or more complex than you know. Treat them how you would like to be treated
• Consider the reach of the posts you make. Tag content that you expect others might not want to see.
• Harassment and bullying of any kind are not tolerated here. Do not engage with a user if they do not want you to. Do not ask other users to, either. If you feel a post generated on this server violates this rule, bring it to a moderator's attention.

No Baiting

• Do not make posts to get angry reactions.
• “I was being ironic” is a highly flimsy excuse for misbehaving.
• Avoid sarcasm as it does not translate well in a web form, and even less for the neurodiverse who may not understand sarcasm
• Do not drag unrelated people into a discussion

Follow the Law

• This server is located in New South Wales, Australia. It and its users must obey all state and commonwealth laws
• Do not share or distribute copyright material, pornography of any kind, personally protected information, and everything else illegal.

No Spam

• Bots that interact with a user without a user's explicit permission are not permitted
• Automated posting is not permitted without explicit admin permission.

No Commercial Accounts

• Access to Neurodiversity-in.au is provided without requirement of payment to all individuals.
• Commercial accounts are restricted to those that provide a service to the community and have been approved by administrators.
• Any commercial accounts must have been pre-approved by the administrators, or they will be suspended without notice.

Be aware of the nature of the network.

• This website is part of a network of similar websites. Other websites may have different rules.
• The local administration has little control over users of other websites. You can, however, block and mute them - the same as local users.
• In egregious cases, remote users or entire groups of users may be blocked from interacting with users of this website.

Admin decisions are final.

• The interpretation of these rules is up to the administration, and an admins decision overrides the rules.
• “Technically, I did not violate any rule” is a flimsy excuse for misbehaving.
• The rules may be changed or amended when necessary without notice

These rules aim to ensure a safe and welcoming environment.

• This goal guides rule enforcement.
• Any enforcement action will generally be kept between those involved.
• Try to self-moderate, but do not hesitate to involve an admin when necessary. There are presently two people with administrative access to the website, @stephen and @emichan. You can report rule violations via the report function or e-mail.

Code of Ethics

This site has adopted the UFoL Code of Ethics, which are as follows:

• No hate speech, defined as any communication in speech, writing or behaviour that attacks or uses pejorative or discriminatory language concerning a protected characteristic, in other words, based on their age, disability, ethnicity, gender, pregnancy, religion, nationality, sex or sexuality.
• No Calls to violence. Any individual is promoting violence towards any person or group.
• No intentionally circumventing blocks, for example, by creating new accounts, even on a separate instance, with the intent of circumventing a ban/block.
• No harassment. If a user explicitly asks you to disengage and you do not, explicit calls to dogpile will not be acceptable.
• All bots must respect the #nobot tag and must post unlisted.
• Posts intended for commercial advertisement must be posted with the #ad tag or unlisted. Nudity involving genitals, sexual acts, or pornography must be posted either unlisted, with a content warning, or both.

1. No incitement of violence or promotion of violent ideologies.
2. Threatening, abusive, intolerant or illegal behavior will be removed. We have a zero tolerance approach to racism, sexism, homophobia and transphobia.
3. The Content Warning ("CW") flag should be used for anything that, again, you wouldn't feel comfortable showing to your grandmother. This includes NSFW content, gore, and other similar items.
4. Account registrations are monitored. Even though account signups are open, your account may be suspended if a human considers it potentially fake or bot.
5. Always be kind to each other. Don't say anything you wouldn't face to face.
6. This server is actively moderated. You will probably not be advised of the outcome of a complaint that you made, but rest assure it will be investigated.
7. Moderation and administration decisions are Final.
8. This server is in NSW, and all your data will remain in Australia. We are firm believers in data sovereignty.
9. No bots without explicit permission from the server admin team
10. Obey Australian law and international treaties.
11. The goal of these rules is to ensure that this remain a safe, non-judmental space where it is ok to unmask.
12. No commercial accounts without admin approval Neurodiversity-in.au is provided without any payment required to ensure it is available for the most vulnerable in our community.
