You can support Federated Fandom on Patreon. Our hosting costs are around $90/month; this includes generous disc space to allow us to grow.

Backup Policy

We have daily automatic backups from our hosting provider. We also encourage you to make use of Mastodon's native data backup features, which you can find in "Import and export" under "Preferences" in the web app.

Server Policy

We use a cloud hosting provider. Users can expect at least 24 hours' notice for planned downtime such as upgrades, and 1 months' notice should be instance be unavailable for a significant period of time (major migration, permanent shutdown).

Moderation Policy

Our server's blocklist is available to logged-in users. If you have questions about a URL or are trying to follow someone from a blocked instance, please email or DM one of the admins to discuss. We are trying to provide a pleasant environment for everyone but obviously the nature of implementing a blocklist means we might've caught some friendlies.

All new moderation actions will be announced via @masto_admin and discussed on Discord. We are still working out our policy on how to collect feedback for moderation decisions, but please do talk to us if you have any questions or feedback: we are here to help and want you to have a good time.

Server Limiting Policy

In general, we don't want to limit servers that our users find valuable. The below describes criteria we use when deciding whether or not to limit a server. We discuss these limits on Discord and will not limit if a majority of our users do not want us to.

• We may limit servers which are primarily NSFW and do not enforce CW/sensitive media marking.
• We may limit servers which are exceptionally chatty and off-topic (such as news aggregation servers). This prevents them from showing up in the Federated timeline but does not prevent you from following accounts or seeing their content in your Home timeline.
• We may limit individuals from external instances that are exceptionally chatty and off-topic. This is to prevent the Federated timeline from being full of content that may be relevant to one or two users but is unrelated to fandom. These limiting activities do not prevent you from following limited individuals or boosting their posts.

Server Blocking Policy

We will block servers which engage in harassing behavior or share illegal/dangerous content. Blocking removes all content from our server and prevents our users from finding or following accounts on the blocked server.

1. No hate speech.
2. Don't be a dick. If you are, mods reserve the right to talk to you, suspend you temporarily, or suspend you permanently, in that order.
3. Self-promotion is fine but you should be fannish or friends with folks on this server. Do not join to promote commercial content.
4. Sexual content depicting characters who are not sexually mature is banned. "Underage" is a fungible category, we know this, do not post any content that could be described as shota/lolicon/etc. Prior to performing any account limiting activities, mods will contact you to discuss.
5. If you don't like what you are seeing, block or mute, report if it violates the rules, move on. Do not harass users about ship preferences in any way. NOTE: discussion of racism, homophobia, etc in fandom does not constitute harassment.
6. This is a server for the girls & the gays & seeks to provide a trans-inclusive, anti-racist space. We are not a space for right-wing fans.
7. By joining this server you are asserting that you are legally an adult in your country of residence.
8. Please use your best judgement when posting NSFW or other sensitive content such as posts about political violence, screenshots of right-wingers, etc. NSFW images must be marked as sensitive and a CW should be used.
9. Username format: Usernames can be alphanumeric and have underscores but dashes and other special characters are not allowed. This is enforced at the Mastodon software level so it's not a "rule" but we want you to know before you try to sign up. Thanks!
10. "AI" content is not permitted. Anything generated by an LLM or image service such as Stable Diffusion, ChatGPT, etc is disallowed on this server. (Also, "AI" is fake. The computer is not talking to you or making its own art; it is using stolen content, hence the ban.)
