What is Mastodon?Mastodon is essentially a collection of servers that can talk to each other, instead of having a big, company owned server like larger services (think Facebook or Discord), like emailing someone with a gmail account from yahoo, you can post and interact with people on all other servers, regardless of your ‘home’ server. Essentially, it doesn’t matter where you sign up, you can still see everything if you want to!
You have access to custom emotes to spice up your messages, the ability to change who can see your posts, and overall have a ton of flexibility over who can see what you post, and what you see.
What is this server?This is a small, self hosted instance of Mastodon, Spuddodon, hosted by
@SamSpudd and is for general use. There is no overarching type of posts here, so you can easily shape what you want to see here if you join.
Who can sign up?Currently, the server has open registration, meaning anyone can sign up for an account, and start interacting with the server community. If this changes, you should still be able to invite friends to join, so you’ll always be able to have people you know join, even if public registration isn’t available.
How long is this instance planned to be online for?There are no set plans for the instance length, though it should be operational indefinitely unless some kind of disaster strikes. However, in that case, users would be informed and allowed time to migrate servers to another provider. Again, this shouldn’t ever occur, we’re here to stay!
How can I suppose this server?Firstly, thank you for your interest! Right now, we currently are not looking for donations to keep server infrastructure afloat, though if you want to inquire about this further, please contact
@SamSpudd.
