About this instanceMastodon instance for the biological Ecology and Evolution community. This is broadly defined, so everyone connected to those topics closely or more remotely are welcome.
Server is run by Alexis Simon through the service
masto.host and hosted by OVH in France. Their terms of service can be found
here.
Before joiningPlease, go through the
Rules, Privacy Policy, Etiquette, and Documentation of the server before signing-up. You will also be able to find general tips for using Mastodon. This documentation can be found in the subdomain
docs.ecoevo.socialIf you are looking to migrate your account from another server, you can follow this
guide.
You will be able to contribute financially for the maintenance of the server through Open Collective
opencollective.com/ecoevosocial.
Approval-based and invitation sign-upsThe server has switched to an approval-based sign-up system to try avoiding spamming and trolling accounts as we grow.
But sign-ups are still open to anyone interested, please read on.
This server is dedicated to anyone with an interest in the subjects of ecology and evolution, both professionally and personally. We welcome students, industry scientists, folks working in other fields that have links to E&E, scientific societies, and nature enthusiasts in general. If you want to join us you almost certainly belong, so please apply!
Please use the English language in the "reasons for joining" field, this simplifies a lot the admins' work. Translation tools are very easy to use, and we'd greatly appreciate it if this step is done by the user beforehand.
Two ways of signing-up:
- 1) Ask someone already a user to provide you with an invitation link (Parameters > Invite people). This will bypass approval by moderators and would be the preferred way of growing our network.
- 2) Otherwise, simply follow the Create account button and provide in a sentence or two your relation to Ecology and Evolution. While a website, a program enrolment or a publication record provides a quick confirmation and will allow moderators to work through the queue faster, they are not necessary, and we will consider anyone who expresses interest.
See you soon on the server and enjoy connecting!
