Many members come from transportation equity and policy backgrounds. While this server is for everyone, there may be a lot of local talk about those topics!

If you wish migrate your account, instead of simply making a new account, use this page as a resource and follow these steps:

1. Back up your account data
2. Make a new account on this server (check your spam for the confirmation email!)
3. Alias your old account to the new account by creating an alias on this server
4. Move your followers by using the "Move to a different account" function on your old server.
5. Upload your following list to the new account

Server Status and Funding

This instance is currently running on a server donated by @flyyn - your friendly local devops masshole who's currently between jobs.

The server will likely need to be tuned and upgraded as members join.

Registration

This server has a generally open registration policy, for anyone who agrees to abide by our rules.

At times, we may require approval for new members, to ensure safety and technical stability. We will process registrations as quickly as feasible.

Username Tip - we are in a world of federated servers. Usernames must be unique '@better.boston', but you will be sharing space with other servers.

You may wish to choose something that stands out, similar to a Twitter username. Sure, '@bones@better.boston' is (currently) available, but conversations with '@bones@mastodon.social' will get confusing fast!

We actively moderate this server; this is not a "free-speech zone".

However, while we are dedicated to moderation, our labor is on a volunteer basis and we cannot see everything.
