who, what, when, where, why

zeroes.ca is a COVID-aware community built on Mastodon and connected to the fediverse. We opened our doors for the first time on April 27th, 2022. We're hosted on servers in Canada, operated by admins who live in Canada, and open to people from anywhere in the world. We are not a commercial website; we have no financial interest in your data or activity. This is a volunteer-run, voluntary service. We're here for dissemination of science, experiences, information, and ideas; conversation and discussions; questions and answers -- a safe, good faith space for any and all COVID-related topics. Misinfo, disinfo, and other unlawful, harmful, and/or bad faith content is not permitted.

software

We run vanilla Mastodon with some custom tweaks (5k character limit, 6 poll questions, BirdUI/Tangerine themes), as well as Matrix (Element/Synapse), WriteFreely, and PixelFed instances that can be used via OAuth. Authenticated Fetch is enabled, "AI" bots and other scrapers are set to 'disallow' in robots.txt, we permit bird.makeup, and we do not federate with Threads/Meta.

moderation

Our goal is to provide an environment conducive to community and communication and hostile to anything unlawful, malicious, and/or synonymous with bullying. We reserve the right to remove any accounts, content, or federated servers that are detrimental to this community and the above goal. We realize you're human and we are too, so we'll do our best to be fair yet protective. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to admins/mods.

reporting

When reporting accounts, please include posts that show rule-breaking behaviour (when applicable) and detailed context in the comment/note, so as to help us fully understand the situation and take appropriate action. This is especially important when the content is in a language in which the moderation is not fluent. We endeavour to handle all reports within 24 hours. Bear in mind that you are not notified of punitive actions pursuant to any reports you make. Also, not all punitive actions are externally visible.

Donations toward infrastructure/hosting costs can be made through Ko-fi or Liberapay.

We have not received any warrants from law enforcement, nor participated in any discussions covered by an NDA.
