Privacy

All social media platforms require some data storage, and Mastodon is no exception. However, with more people switching to Mastodon from Twitter, it's important to note some of the privacy concerns. The main concern is that private messages are stored. This is necessary to enable conversations, but it's important to recognize that the operators of the server, as well as any receiving server, may be able to view such messages. Additionally, recipients may screenshot, copy or otherwise share them.

As Mastodon's privacy policy indicates, there are some instances where privacy may be compromised. Some media outlets have used this as an argument against Mastodon, but the level of privacy depends on the instance you use. At billys.mom, we take privacy seriously and only read personal messages if they are reported by a user or if law enforcement issues a reasonable notice.

Can I trust billys.mom?

As with any Mastodon instance, we cannot guarantee 100% privacy. You should always be cautious about what you share on any website. However, we are committed to privacy and will not engage in voluntary surveillance programs. Moreover, governments cannot legally force services to implement blanket spying programs.

1. Harassing someone specifically or encouraging others to do so is forbidden. Wishes or hopes that someone suffers physical harm are included. Threatening to use violence or glorifying violence against a person or a group of individuals is prohibited.
2. Encouragement or threats of terrorism or violent extremism are not allowed. Posts disseminating content by violent extremist or mass violent attack offenders may be deleted. Associated accounts will be removed.
3. On Billy's Mom, we have no tolerance for the sexual exploitation of children.
4. It is prohibited to incite violence against or harass anyone based on race, ethnicity, national origin, caste, sexual preference, gender, gender identity, religion, age, disability, or serious illness.
5. Advocating for or supporting self-harm or suicide is not allowed.
6. Extremely graphic content and sharing of violent or adult content are not permitted in profile or banner photographs. Adult material IS allowed, on the basis that it is appropriately marked as sensitive content and that it is legal.
7. You are not permitted to use our service for any illegal actions or to further illegal activities. This covers the provision of certain categories of regulated goods or services as well as the sale, purchase, or facilitation of transactions involving illicit goods or services.
8. Discourage spreading false content. Post responsibly with credible sources. We use mediabiasfactcheck.com for source credibility. Email support@billys.mom to dispute any hidden sources.
9. Bots that post spam in Mastodon feeds are subject to limitations on the billys.mom instance. If the posts are not unlisted, the offending bots may be restricted or blocked to maintain the integrity of the community content.
