PLEASE NOTE

This instance is an experiment. At this time I (Karin) am funding it and hosting it on one of the few managed mastodon hosts, federation.spacebear.ee. I cannot guarantee privacy, if you need to securely talk to someone I recommend Signal. It is quite likely that service may degrade quickly if a bunch of people join, and I'll do what I can but no promises.

To use the site on mobile I recommend the apps Tusky for Android and Metatext for iOS, but the website works well on mobile too.

In order to save resource, please don't upload video at this time, and size down images if you can.

Plans for the Future

I am committed to running this site for one year (through 2023), and will re-evaluate at that time. My hope is that we can build a community of people willing to maintain the instance or find a local non-profit willing to take it on. I cannot commit to hosting forever, so please keep that in mind when you register.

That said, if I can't find help and need to shut down the server, I will issue a notice beforehand. There is functionality within mastodon to transfer to other instances, and I will help in any way I can.

Code of Conduct

The below rules must be read and understood to maintain an account on mastodon.nz. Any account found to be breaking these rules will be suspended.

1. You must read the rules.
2. You MUST describe your link to NZ as part of your reason for wanting to join on the next page. Applications without this will be declined. You must be a kiwi or honorary kiwi, at home or abroad, to join Mastodon.nz.
3. You may only have one account on Mastodon.nz and be at least 13 years of age.
4. Personal accounts only. We do not allow bots, commercial, business, organisation or purely promotional accounts.
5. Automated cross-posting from other services such as twitter is considered to be a bot and is not allowed. If you have a blog or something and you want feed that through, this is generally fine.
