Local-only Posting

If you click the chain-link icon below your post, you'll be able to set it to "local-only". This means that your post will only be visible to other users on this server; it won't show up for anyone else.

If your mastodon client that doesn't have that option, you can add the :local_only: emoji to your post instead.

This is possible because we run the Hometown flavor of Mastodon.

Filters & Comfort

If you want to hide a post from your timeline, you can always select "Filter this post". If you'd like to hide all posts containing a specific phrase, you can go into Preferences>Filters to set up custom rules.

Searchability

Mastodon posts won't show up in search results, unless you use #hashtags.

Lists

A good strategy for using mastodon is to follow as many people as you can. Then, find special groups (like close friends, or writers, or photographers) and put them in custom Lists.

1. No Nazis, no TERFs, no cops, no hate speech, no queerphobia, no racism, no misogyny.
2. Use Content Warnings (CW) for: adult/NSFW content, spoilers, discussions of potentially upsetting/stressful political events, subjects that could be upsetting/traumatic, and common phobias.
3. Advertising is only allowed for personal projects (podcasts, personal shops, streams, videos, etc.). Advertising is also Encouraged for personal projects -- show off your stuff!
