This brand-new server is part of the Expanse fan community's effort to diversify and expand (ha) our options for connecting with one another. As moderators and members of r/TheExpanse and r/LangBelta, we feel strongly about the culture of welcoming kindness and intellectual integrity we've built together over the years. We intend to continue fostering that culture in this new space — no matter what happens with Reddit — and invite you to join us!

This server shares the values espoused by The Expanse books and TV series: We have true respect for people of different backgrounds and experiences, do earnest work for goals that benefit everyone, embrace curiosity about our universe, and treasure our friendships and meaningful conversations.

We especially welcome our members who are new to Mastodon and the Fediverse! Give yourself time to learn how this new format works, and don't hesitate to ask for help.

1. No bigotry of any sort. Disrespectful comments related to gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, mental health, neuro(a)typicality, age, physical appearance, body size, race, and religion are absolutely unacceptable here.
2. Engage others in good faith. Ask questions because you want to learn, and share your own thoughts and expertise without condescension. We're lucky to have myriad fields to learn about, and everyone is a complete beginner somewhere.
3. Harassment, threats, and doxxing are grounds for an immediate ban.
4. No bots or automatic crossposting without moderator approval.
5. No graphic sexual, violent, or otherwise disturbing images in public posts without a content/media warning.
6. Make this server welcoming by using relevant hashtags, including image descriptions, and avoiding excessive formatting that interferes with screen readers.
