We aim simply to create a place that fosters friendly social interaction. Some online social platforms like to think of themselves as town squares, but we're going more for a local coffee shop or neighborhood party kind of environment. This is still a relatively new instance, so all our rules should be considered work-in-progress and very much open to feedback.

Be Considerate Of Others

Part of keeping things here "low-key" involves asking people posting publicly to use Mastodon's content warning feature when discussing topics that may be controversial, inflammatory, or distressing. A good rule of thumb is to put a content warning on anything that may contribute to "doomscrolling".

This will not and cannot be strictly enforced for a variety of reasons. The biggest reason is that the goal of this rule is to keep things fun and stress-free for everyone, not to cause anxiety or to tone police. The important thing we ask is that you please just try to be mindful of others when posting.

You may use content warnings however you would like when posting with any visibility narrower than "public", or when replying to a post.

Don't confront someone who posted something that you believe should have had a content warning on it. Doing that may make the poster feel unwelcome which isn't what we want.

Personal Accounts Only

We love seeing organizations and projects on the Fediverse, but hosting such accounts here doesn't align with our goals as an instance. Kindly look elsewhere if you would like to create an account for your group, project, or organization.

Do Not Post Adult/NSFW Content

Mastodon is federated which means you'll see and be able to follow users from other servers. These servers may have different policies regarding adult content.

We try to limit the reach of remote users and servers that post public, untagged content which violates our policy. This is to make sure it isn't shown to our users who may not want to see it.

For our users, this policy is strictly enforced.

1. Be respectful to all people. Harassment and unkindness towards individuals or groups will not be tolerated for any reason. Make everyone feel welcome.
2. Be considerate of others when posting about controversial, inflammatory, or distressing subjects. In such cases, please consider adding a content warning to your post.
3. No automated accounts. Posting with an automation tool is ok, as long as it's to share something you made (like a blog post or video) and it's not the sole purpose of your account.
4. Do not post adult/NSFW content.
5. Personal accounts only. Accounts whose main purpose is to represent a project, group, or organization are not allowed.
6. No spam or spammy behavior.
