awesome.garden is a private Hometown (Mastodon) instance for the loosely associated group of hackers, artists, crafters, and nerds (and their partners and friends) that make up The Dominion of Awesome. There is no real theme here. It's just a space for us.

Policy and Governance

See the rules list for the main points. Moderation is entirely at @bytex64's discretion right now, but may expand in the future.

Server rule violations may result in responses ranging from a stern talking to, to immediate account termination, at the discretion of the admin. Not all decisions will be fair, unbiased, or free from errors.

The rules are always up for discussion, and it is hoped that they will evolve over time to meet the needs of the community as effectively as possible.

Operations

This is a small instance running on the good will and spare time of @bytex64. Availability and support is offered on a best effort basis. Things will go down. Things will break. Be patient. I'm working on it.

Media is stored locally and may be culled periodically to maintain working space on the server.

Backups of the main database (but not any media) are created nightly, and will be held for no longer than 90 days. These backups will be stored encrypted and off-site.

The instance runs FreeBSD. That's kinda neat.

1. No illegal content. Content covered under "fair use" claims are allowed, but may be taken down on a case-by-case basis.
2. No hate speech. That includes racism, misogyny, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, or any other being shitty to someone based on who they are.
3. No harassment. That includes people outside this server as well as ones inside.
4. No spam. Self-promotion is allowed. Abusing access to deliver unsolicited advertisements is not. This prohibition includes political advertisements.
5. No sexualized images without consent.
6. No bots without admin approval.
7. This list of prohibited activities is not exhaustive, and the absence of a specific rule is not a defense against acting in bad faith.
