This instance is invite-only for tech-professionals, coders, hackers, open-source enthusiasts and alike.

We like to build a curated community of nice people that love to nerd out about tech stuff or just need a safe home or a fresh start. But everyone is welcome as long as they follow the rules.

We deeply believe in life, respect, peace, human- and digital rights. We also talk about gaming, music, hobbies, pets and LGTBQIA+ stuff.

Bums... what?

"Bums" is German colloquial speech. It's literal meaning is something like "loud bang" or "loud pop". It's often used by younger people to devalue things, so "bumscode" means something along the lines of "shitcode" or "crapcode". Think of "bums" like the "f" in "wtf".

The origin of "bumscode" is not 100% clear, but a group of coders at the company kris is working at, has been using it consistently in code reviews and meetings to refer to bad or not working code. So it's kind of an in-joke.



Moderation

We do not federate with facist instances or instances that promote or tolerate harassment, transphobia, homophobia, ableism, racism, sexism, doxxing, stalking, hate-speech, conspiracy theories, religious extremism, white supremacy, nationalism, colonialism or that are illegal in Germany (like nazi-symbols and slogans).
