Hello, and welcome to the General Chat's Mastodon server!
This is essentially a private instance for members of the General Chat Discord server - and their friends. For information on the General Chat, scroll down to General Chat History.
As we know and trust all our users, we moderate ourselves - therefore any rules we list are generally for the benefit of visitors to the instance - including admins and moderators of other instances. For clarification on a rule, comments on missing rules, or concerns about our users, please get in contact with Splatsune.
Currently, The General Chat's domain hosting and services is paid for out-of-pocket by Splatsune (with the exception of our Minecraft server, which is/was maintained by Vidvisionify). At this time there is no way to donate to keep the server running.
General Chat History

The history of The General Chat begins at a quaint little site for Flash animation and comics called Porplemontage Studios (archive.org), from roughly 2005-2008. While not the birth of the Chat, some of its members first met there through making and sharing their creative projects, and chatting on its phpBB message board (archive.org).
In addition to the message board, in the later years of Porplemontage Studios there was also a Skype group chatroom where some of the creators and regulars gathered. Skype would remain the preferred gathering place for the proto-General Chat as its members eventually moved from Porplemontage Studios to ___ and then mindStage.
The first true General Chat began around the formation of The Layabouts. (TBC)
