Back in times of yore, before Facebook ruined the world, there was a music forum called 4four. It was the centre of the world for underground house, techno, and electro - especially if you were from the fabled city of Londonium.

It was home to DJs, producers, club-owners, promoters, and most importantly the fans of underground electronic club culture, who would talk long into the night about the latest Drexciya release.

Then Facebook came and wiped 4four off the map. It was a sad day, and we all went our separate ways. But there's a new player in town: Mastodon, it's a bit like Twitter, but it allows users to set up their own servers as part of a federated universe (lots of servers talking to each other).

Most importantly on each server there's a "local feed". This local-feed means that if we gather fans of underground electronic club-culture on one server, then we get the equivalent of a local village, similar to how 4four was, but with the ability to wander to the wider world like Twitter/Facebook. It's a bit like having your cake and eating it.

And so that's what this is, 4four.org is a Mastodon server for underground electronic club-culture. If like me you consider Instagram a vacuous plague-pit of narcissism, Facebook a wall of adverts, and Twitter a platform in a death-spiral then give this a try... And when you sign-up you get a cool username (yourname@4four.org) too!

There are currently a limited number of spaces (the more users, the more it costs me to run the server, so I will keep an eye on demand and open it up to new users occasionally).
