mcr.wtf is a small, independent Mastodon community rooted in Greater Manchester.

It’s open to people who live here, come from here, feel connected to the place, or are simply interested the place.

You don’t have to post about Manchester. This is a general-purpose home on the fediverse but but one where the local timeline might occasionally help you discover a gig, a campaign, a new café, an interesting project, or somebody doing something brilliant nearby.

A friendly place

We want mcr.wtf to be welcoming, thoughtful and enjoyable to use.

Our rules are straightforward: treat people with respect, don’t harass others, and don’t use the community to spread hatred or abuse. We moderate when necessary, and we will limit or block servers that repeatedly expose our members to harassment or unacceptable content.

We federate widely, but the safety of the people who use this server comes first.

Independent and community supported

mcr.wtf is run independently, from Manchester, by people who care about keeping a small part of the internet human-sized.

There’s no advertising, no tracking-based business model and no corporate owner. Contributions help cover the server, storage, backups, domains and the other small costs involved in keeping it running.

1. No discrimination, including (but not limited to) racism, sexism, homophobia or transphobia.
2. No explicit (NSFW) content without content warnings and/or sensitive media markers. Explicit content must not be used in user avatars or header images.
3. No harassment of other users on this or other servers.
4. No content illegal in the United Kingdom
5. No incitement of violence or promotion of violent ideologies.
6. No disinformation regarding public health issues or political/military campaigns.
7. No impersonation of other individuals, public figures or organisations, unless clearly marked as a parody.
8. No spam or SEO. Accounts existing entirely or mostly of spam will be suspended. Self promotion and limited advertising is acceptable, especially where relevant to the community.
9. No posting in languages other than English. Unfortunately this makes moderation impossible for us.
