By joining this Mastodon server, you agree to embody the four foundational principles of ethical journalism from the SPJ Code of Ethics:

• Seek truth and report it: Ethical Journalism should be accurate and fair. Ethical journalists should be honest and courageous in gathering, reporting and interpreting information.
• Minimize harm: Ethical journalism treats sources, subjects, colleagues and members of the public as human beings deserving of respect.
• Act independently: The highest and primary obligation of ethical journalism is to serve the public.
• Be accountable: Ethical journalism means taking responsibility for one's work and explaining one's decisions to the public.

FAQ

Do I have to be a working journalist to apply? No! This server is open to everyone. The only requirement is that you follow the rules. Why was my application rejected? This community is focused on information and journalism. We’re accepting applications that give a good reason why you want to be here. If your first application wasn’t accepted (e.g., you can’t log in), feel free to reapply.

Funding

federated.press is a member of the HCB, and runs on donations. As a US 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, contributions are tax-deductible.

If you are an active member here, or if you want to support our mission to provide a thoughtful and inclusive home for journalists, researchers, and their allies, please consider a one-time or monthly donation (monthly is strongly preferred—it really helps with cashflow planning!).

Your organization can also become an official sponsor for $30/month. Sponsors get a logo and link on the federated.press/about page (that's this page).
