Greetings, programs! Welcome to argon.city! This is a Mastodon/Hometown instance run by Daneel Cayce (@sysop) for their friends. Any moderation decisions or administrative actions are at their sole discretion.

This document is a work in progress and will likely change in the future as argon.city evolves. Server announcements will be posted whenever it's updated.

The basics

Harassment and hateful conduct isn't tolerated on this server. That can look like some of these things (a non-exhaustive list):

• derogatory comments toward someone's gender, race, orientation, disability, neurotype, or appearance
• threats or intimidation
• encouraging others to harass someone
• continuing to initiate contact after a boundary has been drawn (i.e., being asked to stop, having been blocked, etc)

Several Mastodon instances are filtered (meaning that their posts do not appear unless you're following them directly) or blocked for reports of hateful conduct or spam. If you find yourself unable to follow an account and feel that you should be able to, ping @sysop and we'll talk about it.

Best practices

Here are some things you can do to help everyone have a good time around Argon City (and the fediverse at large).

   Add image descriptions for folks who use screen readers. The web interface and most apps make this pretty easy!

   Use content warnings on the following:
   
   
   • NSFW/explicit content
   • Common triggers
   • Posts with a lot of emoji (i.e., Wordle/other game results). These are otherwise difficult for screen reader users!
   • Content warnings are also useful for other potentially-sensitive content, as well as things like ventposts and spoilers for recent media. Use your best judgement -- but please err on the side of caution. If you think something could potentially use a CW, throw it on there.

   Current best practice for replies is to set them to "unlisted" (the unlocked padlock icon). This makes your reply visible to everyone, but doesn't clog up the public timelines.
   
   

Privacy Policy

The server argon.city runs on is hosted and managed by fedi.monster. The only time they'll share our instance info with a third party is if I sign off on it (which I won't).

The instance itself is part of the "fediverse" -- our public posts are visible to other Mastodon servers. Because of this, if you want to keep your posts private, your best bet is to lock your account, so you approve your followers manually, and either post only to followers or the local server.

1. Read the guidelines. Listen to sysop. Be kind.
2. Report spam/bots when you see 'em.
3. For NSFW stuff: use content warnings and mark media as sensitive.
4. Don't participate in or encourage harassment of other users (on this instance or others).
